Payday 2

Just started to play this game and I love it. I personally like what technician does but couldn't figure out what to get in terms of skills...ended up with hybrid build with non-tech trees. Does anyone enjoy playing tech in this game?

Tech is great makes most mission go by quicker with faster drilling and c4 to blow safes/doors but i would stay away from the sentries they tend to be very situational and not too useful. Tech/Enforcer tree turns you into a tank which for me is the most fun. Stealth gets old pretty quick and can take longer then just going loud on many missions.
 
This is currently on sale on Steam. $6 for Payday 2, $18 for the 4 pack, and $20 for the GOTY.

Is there any point in getting into this now? Are the extra heists that are included in the GOTY needed?
 
Still very much worth playing.

You don't have to buy any of the heists to play them neither.
You can only host them by paying though.
 
Only worth playing with friends or if you happen to find a really good group. Playing with less than 3 (really 4, but 3 is playable) is basically pointless.
 
Payday 2 for SteamOs hype! Cannot wait to run it natively instead of wine.

Not surprising coming from this developer. They've been doing anti-gamer shit like this since the beginning...really feels like they hate their fanbase.

It has pretty much been downhill since the patch that reduced payouts was released. Even before then you could kind of tell. I loved the beta and the first maybe month of the game, everything after that has been "meh". I really stopped caring after they "nerfed" (added like 20 extra guards) stealth.

Exact same here...put about 120 hours into the game just after release, and then once they started "fixing" the XP "exploits" and announcing stupid shit like the ability to wipe progress just to get a special icon next to your name or whatever, I said fuck it and never went back.

This is kind of cool but...still, fuck Overkill. I am never trusting them with my money ever again.

This is FAR too little, too late as far as I'm concerned.
 
So for those who have played since that update, how is it?
 
Haven't touched it, but I doubt much changed gameplay-wise.

As expected, the removal of microtransactions came just ahead of the announcement of more paid DLC...

I binged the shit out of this game for 100+ hours. Stopped playing about a year ago, but it looks like the devs are pouring a ton of content into it still. Might fire it up again this weekend.
 
Unless they fixed the shitty changes they made awhile back, I'm never touching this game again.
 
I dumped a ton of hours into this game up until all the dlcs and micros ruined it for me, might fire it up for a few rounds to see if it has improved any
 
Yet another reason to NOT give this company any more money - they are removing all DLC from the Steam store pending release of an "Ultimate" edition. Currently the DLC is 85% off, but...why do this in the first place (hint: the answer is greed).

I guess future DLC will be "free", but Overkill also lied about microtransactions in the first place so their word can't be trusted.

Maybe I am overly cynical about this game, but to me this is a move to drum up last-minute DLC sales since the game will be moving to an "Ultimate Edition" with all of the DLC and no individual DLCs possible afterwards.

So if you download the game for free and don't buy any DLC, you will be forced to buy the Ultimate Edition to use any DLC content (of which there is a LOT) in the future.

haha, why am i not surprised. I really liked the first Payday and wanted to like this one too. But the gameplay is floaty, there is an overwhelming amount of options to customize your character, and it's hard to get matched with similarly skilled players in the matchmaking. Plus the amount of DLC and DLC strategy is absurd. I've reinstalled this game 5 or 6 times over the past couple of years but always uninstall it within an hour.
 
Unless something has changed you can play all the maps in multi-player without any dlc. You just can't host the maps yourself.
 
I don't recall that being the case, at least not years ago. I played the free DLC maps but never saw the paid ones. I couldn't figure out how to join them if possible. I wonder how much all the DLC will be. I recall it going for fairly cheap in the past? $10-15 for an older game during a Steam sale might make me consider it.
 
DLC is gone now, you have to buy the Ultimate edition to get the previous DLC. Future DLC is supposed to be free.

The DLC was 85% off for a super brief period (like one day I think) just before they took it off Steam, but I think there was so much it still ended up being $15-20 or something.

No It has always been the case, you can join any map you don't own you just can't play it in single player or host it. If no one is hosting it then yeah you wont see it ever popup.

Supposedly this game is supposed to get free VR support in the future.
 
Payday 2 is getting a major overhaul to its game engine

The engine update will see Payday 2 ported to a 64-bit architecture- which should eliminate out-of-memory crashes that have persisted over the years and upgraded to DirectX 11 rendering- which will use significantly less VRAM and thus run better on lower-end hardware...the install size has also been reduced by more than half, from 86GB to 32GB

The downside to all of this: "Sadly, it's inevitable that some mods will break"
