I'm using 2x Avocent CPS1610's (one as a spare). I decided to adapt from RS232 on each machine to RJ45 though so I only had to run one type of cable for all machines. Each machine has console redirection to serial for me to control it remotely. Hopefully after this weekend I'll have it working so it operates through my secondary ISP connection (on my PIX501 - separated from my main routing equipment).

As it's a home network it's not really crucial to have this setup but I wanted to research it more and it was pretty inexpensive to setup.

Modifications will be coming tomorrow, the blower fan is FUCKING ANNOYING! im changing it to a different type of fan, probably a 2.5" cpu fan and will creatively attach it to the low profile copper heat sinks, i will post before and after pictures.

I did add another 512mb ram to the unit, i might see if i can scrounge 2 x 1gig chips to throw into the unit to see if it will run properly.

Cant remember what a i686 processor is tho.
 
Yah i hate high RPM blower fans. that's why i got rid of that SuperMicro 1U. The RSA boxes i've got aren't even as loud as my Dell PowerConnect switch.

Celestix boxes are a little louder too.
 
i686 is just Pentium II and newer, so everything that's not x86_64 basically. Upgrade of the i386 (i.e. based on the Intel 386).
 
That's a nice looking box. Makes me wish I would have pushed a little harder to get one for my office.

I though that was i586, because I remember seeing i686 after x64 came out, but then again I was still new with computers back then

It's still not "good" cable management, but its good enough for how often I'm moving stuff around. I'm going to get some cable management pieces eventually, usually this stuff just sits on a shelf until I got the rack last week.

Got the lcd working & functions of the front of the Astaro ASG with 8.002.

moded the cpu fan to a top mount, instead of the blower * aka LOUD* fan.

Issue i have with that AMD fan, is if the old one pulled its air in or pushed out from the side slot on the fan itself, how is this going to have enough clearance once you get the case on, to pull from the top?...did you check the height? (obviously i'm sure you have lol but just a thought)

There is abou 1/4" the cpu, doesn't even get the slightest bit warm. I will be on the look out for another type of fan, but this one will work for now, the blower fan was driving me nuts, way to loud, i hated it. The equipment is in my laundry room.

here is a shot of all the equipment together for now.

The astaro unit is working perfectly right now, i haven't gotten any thing connected because im still working on stuff right now, i will migrate everything over soon.

Have to setup the vpn, and all my rules for email and other things.
 
ciscotacrtp - keep it up, i'm loving all the images!

Something tells me no one else will be able to compete with what ciscotacrtp posts lol

oh... my... god.
he even has signs, that are numbered in his data center, like it was a grocery store or something.
 
It's cool to see how the actual vendor does their support pods and so forth. I just wouldn't want to be in charge of asset management lol.

serious questions? instead of, please can i have some of your unused offcast hardware, as I can't actualy afford to buy any of your nice pretty nexus stuff (well i can't anyway)

loving all the pics recently specially the green untangle box
