Mass Effect 3 Discussion Thread

Seemingly dumb question but I ordered the CE edition. Is the DLC "From Ashes" already included in the SP story line or do I have to open it and play it somewhere else?

It's incorporated very nicely into the SP game. No tricks. :)

Yeah, it's almost like it was written directly into the game... like it was developed alongside all the other content, instead of separately or by a separate team... hmmmmm

Wow, how DUMB can EA be?

http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/323/index/9689886/1

Basically, you can play online, and if the HOST (not the player) has modded his game to give credits, etc your account will be "flagged" for credit exploting and will be banned.

Not only does this stop you from playing MP, but it also locks you out of SP and the game entirely.

That seems so stupid, that you can even get banned because of someone elses modding of the game and simply having the bad luck of being matched with them in an online lobby.

This is the problem I have with having to use Origin/Steam or any form of DRM. Now they have the power from letting us play SP too?? No fucking way. I don't care if somebody was cheating or exploiting credits in the MP, if they bought the game, EA has no right to keep them from accessing their campaign.

This is why I always use cracks after I install a game. I don't even have Origin installed on my PC, and that's how it will stay.

Managed to get my hands on the game. Enjoying it so far. The intro was very hard for me to make myself play through, but now that I'm at Normandy stage post citadel, I'm excited to explore like in ME2 again.

Anyone else getting a server not available message?

Wow this is bullshit. Because I have the Ashes DLC and the damned game can't connect to the server guess what? I can't load my save.

Future of gaming, folks.

So, I just finished the game.

I won't give any spoilers, but I'll spoiler tag it anyway. Just in case.

But fifteen minutes prior to the end, I was getting geared up and excited to run it again with my Renegade save.

After Googling around a bit to see the different 'options', let's just say that... I probably won't be running through the game again.

No problems here.

Totally agree. Following in the "just in case" philosophy of spoilers...
Really enjoyed everything up until that last little bit; leaves such a bad taste in my mouth about all of the time wasted on previous alternative playthroughs and this game that it'll take something drastic to get me to start it up again

Reset my computer and got things working. I don't know if that's luck or what but regardless of that: Heads up everyone. If you have any DLC like Ashes installed and it can't connect to the Internet you won't be able to load your save. On a single player game.

Was it the first time you were playing the game with the DLC? I remember ME2 needed a connection to verify the DLC, but only on the first load after you installed the DLC.

Thankfully I've not had any problems so far. I've had my share of problems with Steam in the past, however. It's all a PITA, not just origin.

To be fair though, he says he can't play any of his SP DLC either. That sucks.

Yup, and some of us on the BW forums expected this sort of knee-jerk reaction from EA about the whole thing. If that post is indeed true and not just trolling, it's a sad state of things for all of us.

We have no way to know if a player we connect to has hacked files until after we're already playing or the match is over, and then we stand to get banned for it. Love it.

MP is the only part of the game that has any small interest for me anymore after seeing how the SP campaign ends no matter what you do, but now, I don't dare risk it.

And to be fair, in a primarily single player game, why would you be banned from any of your single player content? Even if you are completely guilty. I can't think of any game that does that. Even Valve's VAC bans only apply to the multiplayer portions of the game - one can still fire them up and access 100% of the single player content.

You could always play with friends.

Lots of people on [H] probably play MP, too.

Isn't anything new, the controversy of EA banning people's access to offline content they have paid for has been around for a couple of years now. But people keep buying their games.....so whatcha gonna do?

I'm lucky to play much at all. I dont do well in FPS games as it is with my vision being so bad and as a result I'm pretty much always the weakest link on the team.

I think I do ok with my infiltrator though, freeze em and blow their heads off.

If I had tons of RL friends, I wouldnt be on [H] so much.......:p

Just load it up using a cracked exe in that situation. Problem solved.

...and people flamed me for bitching about Origin arbitrarily banning people from what people rightfully paid for. As sad as I am to see a few people getting ripped off I'm glad EA's incompetence once again shows Origin's true colors. An anti-consumer DRM scheme that is nothing but a money grab.

So what's everyone's opinion about the decisions this game makes you choose? Not happy about some of them. And by that I mean I don't like some of the choices I'm "forced" to make with unforeseen consequences, hopefully for the good of the fight.

Yep. It's annoying. I've noticed that for the most part, even most of the Paragon/Renegade choices don't really make a big difference, it's just how you word your response and if you get blue or red points. (Barring the specific ones that make you choose between two races or something like that)

Plenty of the actions I've taken that are beyond my control (and we used to have a choice over) are *NOT* what my character would do.

Is it possible to save him? I liked his character and wish he wouldn't have been so damn adamant that he was wrong regarding the genophage. I don't really care about the female Krogan. In fact, all of the Krogan are kind of annoying to me. The barking thing is weird.

Maybe by refusing to give them the cure? I gave the cure, so I'm not sure if it plays out differently if you do it differently...

Edit: Just checked the ME3 wiki, don't be mad - this IS a spoiler tag:

Mordin can be saved during the mission if Wrex isn't alive, Maelon's data was not saved, which leads to Eve's death, and the genophage cure is sabotaged. If Mordin is saved, and the genophage cure is sabotaged as a result, the salarians will offer their support as well as krogan support under Urdnot Wreav, as the krogan will be unaware of the sabotage, with Mordin helping out as well.

I waited till the last moment before I decided to tell about the sabotage, but it was pretty obvious that it was either 1) let Mordin cure the genophage or 2) Kill Mordin. I was worried that Mordin died because I held out so long on the sabotage information.

It seems like the best solution would be to let Wrex die in ME1, as far as gaining as much support as possible.

Edit: Now I'm not so sure about the salarians. I also wish they'd have cut out having to chase this kid around.

Damn, I finally see what people were talkign about.

I was saving some missions for a return trip to the Citadel. Oh well.

Something else annoying is the grenade system. I get killed by being just a tad too close to one, yet my squad mates standing right on top of one go completely unharmed?

Finally,
EDI's cameltoe puts Miranda's to shame. Apparently it wasn't worked into her programming to cross her legs when she's sitting. LOL.

Without reading the thread, I came here after twenty minutes of the game to bitch: I cannot put my gun down. Am I missing something? Why can I not put my gun down!?

Taking away the ability to freely look around the environments without having to be aiming your gun at what you're looking at in MASS EFFECT would be idiotic. I really hope I'm missing something and that they haven't in fact taken away a basic gameplay control (it's not a feature, it's like a basic facet of the controls).

They have in fact taken away a basic gameplay control because the consoles ran out of memory for animations.

I don't like the way the Journal does not update you based on your progress...for a lot of side missions there are multiple parts and the journal remains the same even after you complete certain parts of it...makes you remember everything...I picked up a few of those Artifacts for certain side missions but the journal doesn't update me to tell me that I have it...it also doesn't do a good job of telling you where you need to go to obtain certain items

I find the Map to be very important in this game as when you enter a new area it tells you all the important people you can talk to in that area

they removed the holster weapon option in ME3...I agree that it's a terrible design choice

Man, I thought I was close to the end, yet I keep getting more quests. I'd consider this game fairly jam-packed.

The future of gaming is that one will resort to illegal methods to enjoy the single player content one has legally purchased.

Future of gaming? Dude, this is the present of gaming. I have an entire folder in steam of uninstalled purchases labeled "Broken Games" that I have to pirate to actually play properly, be it from DRM issues, DLC issues, Steam version can't be modded, Steam version can't be patched, Steam version patch not same as retail, or Steam version simply doesn't work and can't be fixed. It's idiotic. And many people consider me a criminal for doing this. Someone who owns 398 games on Steam and another 100 odd via GOG, to say nothing of all my boxes and past years retail purchases and my wall rack of 150 odd console games, some of which I own the duplicate version on PC. Seriously, the entertainment industry is about to see just how bad people like me can hurt their bottom line when we just, you know, stop buying or even caring about their releases. Their greedy behavior is totally out of hand, it's ruining our hobby, and enough is fucking enough.

Nope. It wants that internet connection every single time no matter what.

It's the present like someone else said and I agree with you and when that time comes it will be with zero guilt or regrets on my part.

I like the Scorpion pistol as it fires that gel blob that sticks to enemies and explodes...but almost any weapon in the game is fine as you can add mods and upgrade them easily...I think the weapon I use most is the M-4 Shuriken

it's a clusterfuck, especially when 9/10 entries (count em) in your journal are going to be bullshit scan and fetch quests among the few story/search and destroy missions. no inventory, no change in description, not even the courtesy of a simple checkbox to show that you have said item to complete this quest. I could have sworn we had this kind of details in all previous chapters of the game.

listing important npcs on your map does not come even close to making up for this, since there's no way to know until you go to turn them in. lack of holster anims matters much less if you got some fov settings, otherwise it would be just another item in the long "who gives a shit, we know you're going to buy it" list of obvious fuckups.

we did have this detail in the previous games...previously when you completed part of a mission/objective the journal updated itself...in ME3 they seem to either want you to fully complete all missions immediately or expect you to remember everything on your own

the NPC's on your map do update dynamically based on if you need to speak to them to complete/continue a mission...their names will not show up on your map unless they are quest related...once you talk to them their names disappear from the map...so it's somewhat useful
