Love your socket 754?

woot! posting from my new rig now, anyone got any links to good bios'es/tweaking guides for my DFI NF3 250gb?

niec to see you back on s754. i finally got my s939 rig up, now all i need is a new keyboard and a set of good speakers and BOOM. im set for life.

also, its awesome to see this thread still alive. maybe itll reach a 1 year aniversary. not many regular threads see that, but this thread isnt exactly normal.

Happy New Years Eve :)

Just a quick question, what SATA ports are locked on the DFI NF3 250GB? Also, I searched all over DFI-Street, and I cannot find any guide to tweaking this board other than that memory guide, and its not helping much :p Hopefully once I get it all settled, I can throw up some screens :D

i believ its the 3rd and 4th, but smetimes 1 and 2 come locked

the claw is the ultimate chip. the first AMD to hit 4ghz infact. resistant to cold bug, EVERYTHING. ohh how i love the claw.

Thats good to hear, because I still want to do my phase cooling project. btw, I figured since Im #3 I should be a member of the club. Count me in.

I'm very glad I traded my FX53 and Neo2 for this :) The fx53 wouldn't clock higher than 2.5ghz, and the Neo2 would go over 225HTT :p

ive never liked the FX53 chip, or the Neo2 for a matter of fact. they make me wanna puke. but its good to see you back on the winning team!

I just setup my system! Working on the overclocking conditions....and all of those settings! Damn theres a lot in this BIOS!

Would anyone be able to point me to any guides to this specific motherboard? I looked around dfi-street.com forums but I cant find anything specific to this board.

Update:Nevermind, I found something I could use.

Fixed.

And their BIOS gets less scary once you spend some time with it. Download Athlon64 Tweaker and start playing with the settings in windows to see what you can change, and see how low you can take them before a lock up. The two big ones you get to play with are Maximum ASync Latency (MAL) and Read Preamble (RP), as well as Idle Cycle Limit and TRas. Those 4 have wiggle room in Windows and usually match up with the lowest you can set in the BIOS (at a given speed/timing combo, tweaking will eat your day alive ;)).

I think I broke clockgen. Whenever I apply settings, cpuz and cbid dont detect them. If I go too high in clockgen it freezes the system like expected. Anyone else ever see this?

Dont forget to add me to the club!

Some BIOSs (?) will only allow you to go so high in the BIOS before it locks the FSB for some reason. You have to shut it down to reset it or something. I had that trouble with my ECS A754 and had the same deal, no matter what I chose in clockgen or in the BIOS past 250 it wouldn't change the speed. I basically had to do the whole overclock in windows. Haven't messed with it lately. I'll try to find all the info again and post it.

Edit: Here's some

http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=472047

"I just got the same board with a Sempron 3100 with the Palermo core (supposed to overclock like crazy). I've only tried using the BIOS which seems to allow upto 250mhz on the frontside bus. I set it to 250, but it must have reset itself or something, because NTUNE still shows 202MHZ inside of windows."

I wasnt being gentle de-IHS-ing my P4. Ended up with a $250 (at the time) Paperweight. Meh, my fault on the most part. Plan to de-IHS my 3000+ sooner or later.

was it a prescott? they solder the IHS on.

Yep. Go figure why there was metal-like thermal stuff on die :D . Was kina wondering why it was so hard, lol. Oh well, looked intresting, I regret it a lot too, that P4 was a great oc'er.

I'd like to de-IHS this Opteron because I know temps would be wicked, but I would absolutely punch myself in the donka if I borked a CABNE week 30. :D If I get bored enough I might, but I'll probably just upgrade my rad and loop config and coolant (Zerex c/o CCU this week!) first.

Well, clockgen was working fine a few days ago. It got me to the 415 htt. Now even 1, 5 or 10 mhz jumps wont change cpuz or cbid. Maybe I'll just reformat...

Edit- So as I'm tweaking, I find I can't run 250x8. I have 1.45 vcore 2.7 mem and all others stock. Ram setting per dfi street guide for tccd at 2.5-3-3-6...so what gives? I'm not having the best of times with this s754...windows loads slower than my xpm and bf2 thrashes the hard disk so much it gets 2 fps...I feel like rma'ing it all

Is your RAM in slots #1 and #3? If not, move the sticks in #1 and #3, slot #2 is a bit of a pisser on that DFI for some reason.

try 1 and 3. not 2 and 3. hmm. fresh install of windows needed?

Yeah, I'm going to reinstall, and this time put back my raid 0 setup. Reading what douglite said, raid shouldn't be that big of a difference, but I'll do it just to see.

And I was just saying 2 and 3 wouldnt boot...
