Love your socket 754?

well you're the first one on the 101st page, which is the 2000th reply ;)

anyhow, with 3.3v, i would get around 3.12-3.15v when i set 3.2v vdimm :p

peach, i vote for 300x9 with a ddr333 divider! 2.7ghz with 245mhz on the ram. thats some solid performance if you ask me. and nice 245mhz with 3.1v!

the 3000+'s do around 2.5ghz or 2.6ghz, depending on how much vcore you wanna pump. and the 3700+'s can hit around 2.7ghz. and i cant find any hot deals on the 3700+ anymore. they have all jumped back to like 350 bucks.

Damn, I'll just stick with the 3000+. It the 2.5-2.6ghz using water? I will be happy with 2.4ghz. I hopefully should get my DFI board by the end of the week or early next week.

the 2.5-2.6ghz can be done on an XP120, or other large cooler. water isnt needed. my friend did 2.5ghz on a Freezer64.

Hell I'm doing it on stock HSF (see sig), but temps get up to 65 when I Prime95. It stays around 59-60 all day while I fold. I'm letting it go to see if it dies while I get around to getting a bigger HSF. If it dies, experiment complete and time for another $65 processor. :D Its been a couple of days now.

gotta remember 130nm runs A HELL of alot hotter then 90nm does. and the more cache, the more temps increase too. so not saying that 2.6ghz isnt doable on the stock cooler. as ive seen many a venice and your chip do it, but for 130nm its undoable.

Holy crap. What a jump. All those 3700+ deals must have emptied vendor stocks.

Yeah I wasn't too happy with my A64 3000+ oc, so I traded the wife. :D

Yeah, I reset the bios, and then decided to give it another go, and boom! I guess I had some setting it didnt like. I got to 439 but it crashed while saving the screen...I think I could get it if I used the f8 key or whatever it is.

Edit: Oh yeah, clockgen started working too, thats why I decided to go for it. It didnt work for a while there

Er, whats with the Venice core on s754?

And whats the point of running the FSB/HTT so high if your gunna run your processor at a 5x mulit and put the RAM on a divider? Does raising the FSB/HTT speed alone impove performance somehow?

No 400 was what I booted at. I think 438 is the limit...for now at least. This contest is [H], thats why.

I can ninja edit too...

it was just for a little contest we have in this thread. theres no more performance boost or anything, just fun.

It helps onboard video, funnily enough. I tested 2x and 5x HTT on an nForce4 430 board and there was like a 4,000 point difference.

'grats on taking the #1 spot. We need a few more guys to try and go after ya now.

Full Folding Ahead!

I don't really fit in here because I don't overclock but I'm happy because my Storm block arrived.

Yea, thats kinda one of the primary resons for wanting watercooling :p The temperatures are an added bonus ;)

If I had water cooling, it'd have a heatercore with four 120mm deltas in push-pull, so we all have different reasons for things.

gah.... i took apart my watercooling to take the leaky part out of the loop, refilled the loop with distilled water, redid my wiring a little bit, and now the computer doesn't boot :( ive tried everything

My PC is having issues also. It has been restarting on its own lately. Last night BF2 froze and I restarted. I managed to get back into windows but it restarted shortly after. Then I had issue getting video signal to the monitor so I messed with the vid card and put it back in. Didn't have much luck so I gave up for the night.

This morning I hit the power button and it boots into bios but after "verifying DMI data something something" the step right before the Windows load screen. I don't get anything on the monitor though the green light remains on. I'm not sure what to do next.

Happy New Year!

Nothing new to add except it's looking like I'll have Socket 754 for the rest of this year too.

LOL.

Quick question...

Newcastle ADA3400AEP4AR vs ADA3400AEP4AX.

AX is newer revision correct? Is it any _better_ than the AR revision?

Also, how do I convert what I already have and compare it to what I am shoppign for? I hate to sound stupid, but Everest says my existing proccie is a "DH7-CG" stepping. I'd like to get another chip similar to what I have but I need to know what I am looking for. I was terribly stupid and didnt jump on the 3700 CH's back in September and I am kicking myself in the gnads for not spending the $150 then.

first is a 1/2 cache clawhammer, the other is a real newcastle :D

Excellent info man. I'd prefer the newer core revision and all.

How can I tell if my current proccie is AR/AX w/o removing the HS/Fan ? Are there any clues in an Everest or CPU-Z run?

CPU-Z will tell you. itll say Newcastle or Clawhammer.

it works fine, but most people are used to AXP, where 1/2 multis didnt make any issues. like yea it might work, but it puts your ram on a weird divider usually.
yup, basically, it makes your ram run slightly slower than the htt speed. it can be handy for getting those weird dividers like cpu/13 :p

Ok, dont screw with me you two... :p

I know my CPU is a newcastle (CPU-Z tells me so, my receipt from 11/04 confirms it ;) ), but there are apparently 2 revisions. Asisde from physically _reading_ the lid on the IHS, is there a software application that will identify which revision I own so I can get another one similar to it?

Edit: to Avoid any possible confusion I present the following links to products:
NC AR revision
NC AX revision
