Love your socket 754?

Yep, I'm willing to bet using slots 1 and 2 was the source of all of your headaches. Watch it turn magical.

Ask Ozzimark. When we both got our 250GB's from our MSI K8N Neo's we hated them. I personally think I hated mine moreso than Ozzi....I eventually warmed up to it once I figured out it's quirks, but yeah, just like any DFI board you have to know how to rub it. The SLi-DR has been a much more pleasure-filled experience thus far, and I still recommend DFI even with it's annoyances.

Full Folding Ahead!

Well, not magical so far, but 250x8 works now. 275x8 still doesnt. I will update later...
Thanks for the slot 1 + 3 tip!

Im guessing I dont know enough of its quirks, because it just seems like I cant overclock the damn thing well. I ll try putting one stick in the third slot. This thing just isnt stable past 230 HTT. Even at 3.0x LDT/FSB or whatever the HTT multi is called. Idk, if I dont get results with this thing, ill probably return it. It just dosnt bench like my old P4 used to :(

maybe your PSU is letting you down? Rosewill doesnt make great psus, infact i think i had the PSU your using right now.

yeah, you did hate that thing at first, i think mostly because of some specific people over at dfi-street than anything though ;)

the board is generally pretty picky, sadly enough. it likes good ram with a cpu that has a solid memory controller. the board went from decent to awesome once i went from my 3200+ clawhammer to a 3700+ newark.

Wheres a good site to start on some decent bios'es for the DFI? I think my board would scream if I used a bios other than the one that ships with the board

Could possibly be. I was limited to 2250mhz on my 2600+ Sempron before I got my Enermax.

i had best luck with the 6-23 beta straight from dfi's beta website :D

I'm starting to really dislike the DFI-Street boards, everything is so unorganized.... I see all these rules saying to search for answers to questions... and I search and I don't find the answer... Im trying to find a link to one of the bios'es modded by tic tac for 4.0vdimm

dumb question: do skt754 semprons have built-in antivirus with sp2 like the athlon64s?

Don't simply start to dislike them, go all the way. They're about as useful as toilet paper made out of cactus: Simply put, a pain in the ass.

So the problem is moreover my PSU? Could be I suppose. Heres a more detailed look at the situation to get a better idea:

Settings:

250FSB, HTT Multi at 3.0x, CPU multi at 10.0x, 1.6 Vcore, Mem: Kingston ValueRam DDR400 512x2, Tried in both slots 1+2 and 1+3. Set at 3/4 Divider (150MHz), 2.5-3-3-6.
Mem voltages left alone, no reason to up it.

At these settings it dosnt even want to start loading windows, it just freezes after posting. Could this be a PSU problem?

so the owners of DFI nf3 boards. do you guys change the stock chipset heatsink to something else before overclocking? will the stock sink handle the heat?

yup it easily could be. my rig would fail prime at 2.56ghz when i turned my cathodes on, if i left them off i could pass all day long. shows how great that psu is.

It worked fine with the stock heatsink, but I threw the heatsink fan from my K8N Neo2 on it just because I had it lying around

if you really care, just pop the heatsink off, replace the stock TIM with some as5 or ceramique... the latter might be better, and put a small 40mm fan on it.

I'm trying to get my rig stable at 260x10 at 2-2-8-2, not working :(

10x260 1T-2-2-8-2-2-7-15-2-2-1-2-3072-1-Enabled-Auto-0-Level 2-7-5-16-Disabled-8-4-Disabled

Help :(

I have the zalman passive heatsink laying around. i wasnt sure if the stock chipset sink is good enough for oc or should i replace with the zalman to bring the temps down a bit.

btw: i just received 3400+ from AMD RMA. its ADA3400AEP4AX LBAZC 0504XPMW. any idea on this stepping and how far i can go with this? RMAd my dead 2800+ and got this in return.

thanks guys.

thats just your run of the mill Newcastle 3400+. its a good chip, it might turn out 2.7ghz given the right cooling. and the stock chipset should be fine, but id put the zalman on just cause. also, w00t on hitting 100 pages guys! we are the biggest thread in all of AMD town!

change tref to 3120, unles syou know 3072 is better

what voltage have you got?

3.1v VDIMM, 1.7VCore, 1.6 Chipset

gonna try tref 3120, also i found a tiny hairline crack in my secondary res of my watercooling loop, im gonna redo the loop without that res in it lol

OHH DAMN! your gonna need more Vdimm. i think that VX was always CH-died. get a modded bois and pump the vdimm!

before you try that...does your psu have adjustable pots?

In addition to his question, what are the average OC for AMD 64 3000+ and 3700+ chips? I guess I missed a couple hot deals with the 3700+. Anyone know if this chip might go back on sale?

I don't know if my PSU has adjustable pots, I tried the 5/04 tic tac modded bios, set vdimm to 3.5, and it didn't work. So far its running stable 250x10 though.

Maybe a new power supply is in order for this beast?

the 3000+'s do around 2.5ghz or 2.6ghz, depending on how much vcore you wanna pump. and the 3700+'s can hit around 2.7ghz. and i cant find any hot deals on the 3700+ anymore. they have all jumped back to like 350 bucks.

yea, but youd need like a Powerstream, so you can adjust the pots. like if you want 3.3v vdimm youd hafta set your 3.3v rail to 3.4v, you always want that .1v head room. so my reccomendation is Powerstream 520w.

also, that's a really new nescastle. seems like it could be quite fun. i miss my 130nm chips that could take a whole bunch of voltage. let us know how it goes.

I happen to have a 2500+ Barton S462 That happens to overclock like crazy with that voltage :D . Wow, I feel lucky to have a Barton  . Anywho, Im not sure what to do about my PSU Problem.....get a better one? Not really a choice but if it takes that much to get it to push much much farther, then im in. What PSU's would you guys suggest?

i vote again OCZ Powerstream. get a psu with the 24pin native and 8pin native EPS thingy instead of the 4pin, cause all mobos will use 24 and 8 pin in the future. another great psu is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817163111 if you have UTT and plan on ocing it on the NF3 Lanparty 250gb, then the powerstream is the choice, otherwise SilverStone FTW!

actually, .2v is better ;)
