I found KDE to be a lot more full featured than Gnome. In Gnome you have to get a bunch of extensions to get a usable desktop, the default is very barebones without even a list of running apps (like taskbar, dock etc). And Gnome has a philosophy of not exposing any configuration, if you need it it has to be done via cmdline. But it does have better animations.
The whole thing is unfortunate. Linix should have gone with Qt vs Gtk, all the fears over Qt not being open source etc at the time turned out to be bs, and now we have 2 competing toolkits and standards with no hope of unification. At least Ubuntu dropped stupid Unity. I've seen a lot of articles about how they should've gone with Kde vs Gnome and I agree.
