Probably the most sensible way to get 2TB without using the slightly slower and more expensive 2TB drives.I have 2 of these and I am thinking about spanning them as a single volume
I paid $104 on amazon last Friday
Was it the Premium or the Pro model?
The premium model at Microcenter is much faster. The ones on Amazon are usually the Pro.

I want them to come out with a 2tb model for $200 ?
this was awesome at number $100, but now it is just OK
What other drive that is a 1TB that performs like this for around $100?
Yeah but it's faster than my Samsung 970 EVO ! which cost me way more !
I use these on my two ADATA SSDs

works great, super cheap, you can find variations of colors from a bunch of different sellers but they're all the same thing. Leaving the nand naked isnt that big of a deal considering the entire thing is gonna heatup from all the heat the controller produces, and you likely aren't going to have a fan directly on the thing.
I've never had any issues at least.
As for the performance of my SABRENT Rocket. So far It's definitely faster than my old NVME drive (an ancient ADATA SX8000) but i've pretty much just been doing loading tests and seeing what it feels like. Definitely a worthwhile buy thus far, as it frees up my other drive for other uses.
I think it was mentioned earlier but it's 1am and I don't want to go digging through the thread 30 pages deep...
I need a small copper hestsink for the controller. I was told to leave the NAND naked, and based on the specs for these chips I am good with that. This is going to be just a steam storage drive and a second backup for 100GB of files..
My Mobo has a nice hestsink for the primary m.2 slot (which is Still PCI-E 4.0 along with my GPU thanks Asus) but the second slot is naked and sits all alone down by the 2nd PCI-E 16x slot.
I don't care that much but would be cool if I can get a black colored one. I assume we need a thermal pad that is sticky as well.
Can anyone recommend what you are using? I swear I had one in my Amazon cart that someone recommend but it's gone now.
I assume I could just put the 'sink on the top, that would cool the controller but then half the NAND will be cooler then the rest.
One was an EK heatsink that someone said they tried
If you could source a heatsink the size of the controller and attach just that, that would be best.
The main reason to use a 'full drive' heatsink would be that the whole drive is getting so little cooling (do to placement or whatever else) that you simply need more mass to sink the heat away and prevent throttling.
I've used the EK ones on WD SSDs, one NVMe and two SATA, and they work well. No discernible performance issues due to controller being too hot or NAND being too cool, but they are single-sided drives.
They're both double sided, and there is also a chip of some sort on the bottom of the Sabrent Rocket. The amount of space between the chip on the "bottom" and the motherboard pcb is so tight that even just a thermal pad was too thick to prevent bowing of the nvme pcb. Were you Adata drives single sided? The reason I ask is that these drives are dual sided. I assume I could just put the 'sink on the top, that would cool the controller but then half the NAND will be cooler then the rest. Not sure what that will do. Probably nothing but I'm curious.
the only drawback is it also has an aggravating activity led onboard.
amazon has it https://www.amazon.com/JEYI-SK8-NEW-Expansion-Adapter-2230-22110/dp/B07VD5PZYCI have one thats enclosed with a little fan in it the only drawback is it also has an aggravating activity led onboard.
It did a really good job of keeping my evo cool and it was pretty much silent.
I cant find it at newegg anymore. Its called a Jeyi sk8 or maybe sk9. Ill have to dig it out to be sure. aliexpress is the only place i can find it now.
There's a good chance they aren't traced all the way through. It doesn't show in any of the promotional shots, but when actually looking at the board, the PCI-E to M.2 converter I use only has traces on the PCB for X4. I assume its probably easier to manufacture all of them at once or something due to standardization? That is... very weird. No reason to have contacts out to x16 for a drive that is at most x4 electrically, right?
