Has anyone else had crashing issues with FC5? Overall my performance, when the game is working properly, is great. My 5960X @ 4.5 + GTX1070 (factory OC) seems to place the game plenty playable at 1440P on Ultra; not sure of exact FPS but I don't notice any drops or stutters. However, I've been running into hard crashes after playing for awhile and I'm trying to figure out if its my hardware, my OC, or the game itself.

The first thing I noted that was a bit odd was the amount of fan noise - most games, even recent ones don't seem to push sustained fan noise (unsure yet if it is CPU, GPU or both) the way FC5 does. While playing I hear the fan noise spin up, but there is no stuttering or slowdown in game even during this. However, after playing for awhile I'll get a BSOD w/ CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT error (I think its "timeout", but its definitely "clock watchdog"). At this point fan noise is roaring while Windows appears to try to grab whatever info it needs, but only gets to 15% before it seems to lock (with sustained fan noise), until I hit the power button.

I'm going to reinstall some of my temp/OC monitoring stuff on this SSD just in case; I'm sure something is causing things to heat up. I find it difficult to consider my OC as unstable at this point, given eveerything else I've been playing for a year or more, including demanding titles like Wolfenstein The New Colossus and even Star Citizen (which is way more graphically demanding and at least theoretically less optimized) . Reading over a few things, I see people discussing the fact that there may be something in FC5 in particular (and possibly in some Ubi games at release) that makes things more unstable. To this point I've been playing without a framerate lock and some suggest this could be an issue - I'll set it to 60 which is in line with my monitor. Still others suggest that some Ubi games at launch lack optimization, have driver issues, or other problems (some discussion that the game may be setting itself to High or Highest Priority on every core; I'll check the system to see). I suppose its possible that there's just something about this game that makes it overheat/stress/mess with my OC more than any other title, but it would seem odd indeed compared to other titles and when there seems to be a history of this sort of thing with some Ubi titles until game or driver updates fix things.

Anything I should try/look at in particular? Thanks

Some games have issues with CPUs that have a lot of cores. Maybe try setting affinity to use only 8 or even 4 cores and see if the crashing goes away. With games, a watchdog timeout occurs usually because threads are not being locked and unlocked properly.

Does this game feel like Far Cry 4 at all?

Do the environments just look put in place or do they actually feel well thought out?

I s'pose so in the sense that if you have played a Far Cry game and any recent ones you should have little to no effort to slide into this one's gameplay although there are some nuanced refinements here and there. It's meat and potatoes FPS gameplay at its core. There's only so many different ways that can be done.

Well thought out IMO. This one definitely has more of a "go out, explore, get lost and see what you can find" bent then I've ever seen before in this series and for me that's a welcome change.

The plane physics are hilarious. You take off in like 10 feet of runway and it has the responsiveness of a fighter jet. You can climb straight up at 90 degrees and not lose any speed at all. If you slow the throttle down to the lowest setting, you kind of sink straight down like a helicopter, and you don't even crash when you land this way. When I landed this way the plane bounced off the pavement and flipped upside down, then flipped again to correct itself. Plane was perfectly fine. Guys, I know it's not a flight sim, but it would be nice if they put any effort at all into the plane physics.

Game is awesome so far, played a few hours last night. Silky smooth on 1080ti so far, really like the gun sound effects too. They did a really good job on the environments and gritty feel of the religious nutjobs.

This game looks incredible at max settings, v-sync @ 100hz. My only real complaint is all the indicators in the environment, which I know can be shut off through interface options but it still is a little annoying. I really don't think there should be a red indicator of enemy locations available at all.

Oh, and the HP on drug induced Cult VIPs on hard is just stupid. I unloaded 80 rounds of 5.56, 20 rounds of .45 ACP, and a couple of grenades at one of these fuckers before he finally went down. Seriously? I thought it was a bug or something. But nope, it's not.

More or less like the villians you have typically seen in these games before.

You have the main leader and his lead disciples that each run a territory that you have to steadily conquer and take them all out. After that's done, of course, you take him out. Lots of quests, sidequests, activities, lots to explore. A decent number of RPG conventions with AP points and numerous perks.

These nuts are basically the worst kind of Koresh-on-steroids anyone has ever seen or imagined.

They're deadly damned serious in a game that does have its occasions for humor and especially with certain returning sidekicks. Things get disturbing at times.

As suspected this is clickbait BS, since what they're pretending to roll their eyes about is a nonissue: the money for additional bombs midair is just to gate spamming them. FWIW, $1000 is literally a couple minutes spent fishing, it's nothing.

If I run out of bombs in a plane I just get a fresh one at the airstrip, and I choose my targets more carefully.

There's a trend where Youtubers have figured out they can make a video "Any game title + something-something micro transactions?" and get views no matter how off the mark. Its a disservice to games with (actual) microtrans issues, and just heads us to boy-who-cried-microtransaction outrage fatigue.

Yeah i amassed like 15k easily in an hour or so by just hunting, fishing and looting. Also doing the prepper stash quest will reward you in a lot of money. I already have a fully upgraded rifle, smg, and rocket launcher. Its not hard to get in game money at all.

Yup. Anyone complaining about the silver bars / micro transactions system in this game is an idiot.

Yes - It's in the game, but it's only there for people who literally want to pay 2 win - Which I couldn't give a shit about since it's a largely singleplayer game.

Seems like they really knocked both the port and the game out of the park. I really like quite a few Ubi franchises, so hopefully this is a good sign moving forward.

Yeah i will never buy those silver bars because its so easy to make money in the game. And some things like clothes dont even matter in single player since you never see yourself,so there is no sense in spending money on them.

Strange, might be time for a virus scan since the error would imply the executable has been modified.

What AV are you running? You could try disabling it and then reverifying the files and try to run it. I have had no issues running through steam which then opens up uplay.

Absolutely loving this game so far. However there is one thing that is driving me crazy - Co-op gap allowance between players is a real pain in the ass. Can't even use the wingsuit together without having to worry about being pulled back to one another. They need to expand this allowance here.

20% off code for "new customers" at GMG brings it to $47.99, I bit. Was going to play Far Cry 4 first but I completed the entirety of FC3 last year and figure 4 might be too much more of the same. I trust if the [H] crew likes the new one, it will be good (y)

Both 3 and 4 suffer from repetitive tasks.

While this game has repetition at least they put in the effort to give each side quest and location a little bit of variety so it doesn’t feel like the same thing over and over again.

Polygon's review is atrocious. It's like they wanted this game to be about killing conservatives that fit into their white supremacy gun-toting religious classification instead of cultists, so they gave it a 6.5. That site is a joke.

This game is way better than the standard 6.5. If they rated this lower than CoD: WW2 there is something seriously wrong with their views.

So, there's conservative characters, but they aren't portrayed as bad guys. I don't understand how that works.

I'm more concerned with the fact that the game tears terribly with my 1080Ti at 4k resolutions using the "GeForce Experience" settings....

Assassin's Creed Origins and Ghost Recon Wildlands played fine, but this is a lot worse...have to tweak the settings more.

Consider that many of the game’s reviewers are going to be hipsters living in big population centers where you’re ostracized if you don’t toe the liberal line. Inevitably, some of them are going to have a political bug up their ass and feel the need to make a statement by taking swipes at anything conservative as it is popular these days to do so.

Now contrast Polygon’s review of Far Cry 5 with their review of Wolfenstein: The New Colossus (9/10) which also tread on some of the same social and political issues, except it demonized the southern white father as being a violent, racist son of a bitch while everyone else was hip, cool, and funny on their quest to rid the USA of Nazis. While many of us in the REAL world thought it was a decent game but overall a bit disappointing compared to TNO. But hey, 9/10 because of the themes, yo.

They (at Polygon, Kotaku and similar sites) are probably very confused and frustrated by the fact that people are loving the game and it is going to do very well.

Yeah, I seriously thought about buying a Gysnc monitor here recently. It was $529. I couldn't do it. Too much. So I bought a 32 in Omen instead with freesync for $279. Now to just get a card that supports freesync to replace my 980. Would like to play FC5 soon.

Cards are still way overpriced :(

I bought my first G-Sync monitor a few weeks ago...well worth it...first 1440p one as well...FC5 is a great looking game...not everything looks crisp and detailed but they really built a nice little world...feels a little too busy at times with all the animal attacks and vehicles constantly on the roads...I think it's better to stay off-road...game feels a bit like Just Cause in terms of the constant chaos you can always start...

I also recommend setting it to Hard after the initial truck chase, and for the love of jesus, turn OFF the EZmode enemy tagging wallhacks:

Interface -> Icons -> Enemy Tag Icons -> Off
Gameplay -> Weapon Tagging -> Off

There's still more HUD spam onscreen that I'd really like, and once I have a better feel for everything I think I'm going to turn everything else off completely for more of an icon-less, Kingdom Come: Deliverance experience.
