Far Cry 5

Pre-loaded my Good Edition yesterday.

Tomorrow evening after work can't get here soon enough!

I've seen posts suggesting the game unlocking very soon (technically on the 26th for EDT time zone) for some users w/ UPlay direct copies while Steam may have to wait a bit longer. For instance - https://puu.sh/zPMLY/2d2097a173.png
While this could portend a slightly early release, there's also the possibility that it is going to be region-spaced, with only AUS/NZ getting access ASAP because they're ahead of us regarding the time zones and whanot. I would have thought that in an era of game streaming and worldwide release they would stick to a particular single unlock time globally, but Ubi may not for whatever reason. In any event keep your eyes open.

Edit: Seems they're doing local time zone staggered releases :( . Unfortunate. However, I have seen confirmation that using a VPN to AUS or NZ, where the game is out, will work to unlock your copy - just remember to close UPlay before you activate your VPN, activate the VPN and connect to an AUS / NZ locale, open UPlay and let it unlock/install so the game is playable, but then set UPlay into OFFLINE MODE before disconnecting your VPN - I would NOT suggest trying to play with it online via VPN, just in case since your game key/account will be NA/US not Oceania . Of course, once the game releases at your location, you can toggle UPlay back to online mode.

I see reports on various sites that this protocol works, and has worked in the past with other Uplay titles like AC:Origins, but remember there is a (minor) risk in any case and to make sure to do your research.

Preloaded the ultimate edition, but I leave for a Moab mountain biking trip tomorrow night! Gone for 5 days.

Far Cry 5 appears to be running smoothly on the PC, no 100% CPU usage, no stuttering

On Ultra settings and at 1080p, our main test system (Intel i7 4930K (overclocked at 4.2Ghz) with 8GB RAM, NVIDIA’s GTX980Ti, Windows 10 64-bit and the latest version of the GeForce drivers) was able to push a minimum of 72fps and an average of 85fps...

Wasted CPU cycles? Damn...

When did people start thinking that 100% CPU usage was bad? At the same time people freak out when their GPU isn't at 100% usage.

Seems 1080p/max/60 is perfectly feasible for GTX1080 owners, although it's hard to tell with so many reviewers leaving vsync off. Too often an average FPS of 100fps can plummet when vsync enters the equasion.

The video shows that there's definitely a resolution scaling option, which I love. 4K x 60-65% tends to be my go-to when possible.

complaint, the game is stingy as F with money. You need money to buy both weapons AND ammo. You can walk over enemies to pick up ammo but you have to frisk them for tiny amounts of money. Stuff like hunting rewards $200 but weapons cost $7000. He finished the game in about 30-40 hours and had unlocked a very very few number of things. He felt they could triple the money drops and it still would not be enough to get most of the things he wanted.

So.... that is monetization for you.

That's unfortunate...but if his description of the game is an "almost perfect experience", I don't expect to be disappointed.

Stoked for this!

I gifted a copy of FC3: Deluxe Edition to my son over the weekend and he's loving it so far, just as I did. :)

Even though I'm a notorious completionist, I don't mind that it isn't feasible to get every weapon. In some ways that makes me feel better about not caring about certain items. Especially ones I'll probably never use anyway. In FC2-4 I only really used a handful of weapons for the entire game. If getting every weapon isn't gonna happen and I know that in advance, I can avoid wasting my time trying to get 'em all.

Guru3d benchmarked the game and a Titan Xp was hitting 57fps at 4k ultra. Impressive, though still hoping for sli support.

I haven't played a Far Cry game since the very first one. The whole theme and motifs in this one made me grab it.

Just wish it would unlock already. Also I'm super pleased with the benchmarks on my 580

SLI is working beautifully!

How are you playing? I'm showing it doesn't unlock on UPlay until midnight EST.

I played FC3, Blood Dragon, and FC4 - all of which were enjoyable but did get a little repetitive. I skipped Primal and apparently made the right choice, it fell short by many reports. Since that time it seems that Ubi has gone out of their way to try to hone their open world games and give them more variety, as well as provide a long arc of DLC with real substance. The Division, Rainbow Six Siege (note: not open world but going into its 3rd year of support!), Ghost Recon: Wildlands, and especially Assassin's Creed: Origins have taken on this new "upgraded Ubi paradigm", and lots of its DNA seems present in FarCry 5 (ie the in-game customization, co-op features, NPC "minions" and other enhanced elements seem to take from Wildlands and enhance even further. Likewise, the Season Pass has 3 real expansion packs in completely different settings etc..and were worked on by the team behind Blood Dragon, which was a campy high point of the series).

If you really don't wish to wait, you can unlock the game immediately if you have a UPlay direct (ie not Steam) copy and you use a VPN with an exit in Australia / New Zealand as I described above. It may be too much work to bother, but it is an option. Some people discuss it here on Reddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/farcry/comments/878k0w/now_live_on_uplay_nz_vpn/ .

It wouldn't even let me start pre-loading the game until this afternoon.

That actually sounds fine to me. I really have hated how easy the last few games have been and how plentiful all resources are.

Australian VPN :D

Hey, what kind of VPN did you use - PTPP, IPSec, OpenVPN? Also, out of curiosity did you set UPlay to offline or are you playing it with the VPN active? I've heard some people have taken to playing online through their VPN if it supplies the bandwidth, apparently without issue - however, I see warnings to not buy anything (think they mean real money, like DLC/Season Pass/Microtransactions as opposed to in-game stuff) lest you get into account problems for buying out-of-region game content (ie Ubi can see you have NA FC5 key, but while connected you just bought the Season Pass which makes it an AUS Season Pass and so there could be an issue). All reports of people unlocking have gone smoothly, along with those actually playing online via VPN without buying anything, but as always keep on the lookout for any new info.

I haven't tried playing the game yet, just loaded it up with ZenVPN active and ran some benchmarks. I wont have time to play until later tonight.

When did people start thinking that 100% CPU usage was bad?

Uh, when terms like "multi-tasking" were invented? When you might not want to have a game stall because you've got a bunch of other programs running in the background?

Kinda depends on the CPU and framerate.
A modern 6C or 8C running 100% usage at 30fps? Bad. 2500K running 100% usage at 200fps? Not bad.

Well my PC didn't blink at it.

2560*1440
Ultra Settings
TAA

Minimum 91 FPS
Maximum 114 (weird)
Average 102

7700K @ 5.1ghz
16GB 3200Mhz RAM 16-18-18-2T
1080Ti @ 2062/.6055

I'll try it at 5.2ghz later (weather's cooled down so I can go back to it) and see what difference it makes but it seems not having 4k is my limit right now.

Now to see if it's actually any good :D

Maybe I suck, but the first truck escape on hard fucked me harder than Buffalo Bill... I had to drop down to Normal.

You're not wrong, took me about 6 attempts.

Easy enough after that, apart from the gun scope being horrific. Guess they want you to be releaved by the upgrade

LOL if you are in a helicopter and your rockets run out you will get a prompt to spend $1000 to reload them

anyone get ReShade to work?...game doesn't seem to load for me with ReShade installed...error message pops up 'untrusted system file'...does the game not support injectors?

Nvidia 391.35 WHQL driver is available, optimized for Far Cry 5...

-Provides the optimal gaming experience for Far Cry 5
-This driver adds security updates for driver components.

Disgusting....and all the more sleazy that Ubi only turned on the microtransactions after the reviews were out.

Played co-op with a buddy for about five hours. Very enjoyable experience so far. Other than some pretty nasty glitches here and there, the game runs pretty damn good!

Well done so far Ubi!
