My x45 seems to be dying. It cuts out mid game... Guess it is time to snag a new setup?
If this one is dead I will probably pick up a x52 pro. The lack of twist on the stick is something I hated about this one.
I'll preface my questions by just saying that I don't see any reason why a person interested in this genre wouldn't buy both Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen.
I personally think that dividing a player base into 400 billion star systems, is a fundamental design mistake. Star Citizen will only have 100 star systems, which is the way to go.
.
Then why bother making it an online MMO? Just make a single player, offline game, like the original.

I'm feeling too lazy to unbox the flight stick though. It has been sitting on the floor for a couple of months.
they wanted space to feel big and empty
Mission accomplished it sounds like. One guy was lamenting that it took 40 minutes of flying time, just to get to his destination and that was within one sector. He said that he ended up figuring out why people were laughing at him, at Sol.
Elite: Dangerous forum has mixed reviews. One guy was harsh and said, "It's like a failed college project". A bunch of reviews are saying that it's not ready for release ( not enough content ). Some people say that the combat is tough as nails, others are saying that it's too easy. Some are saying that it is boring, some are saying that it's addictive as crack. Some people are trying to fly to the centre of the galactic core...
These recent posts have me confused. i was under the impression that ED was an MMORPG like Eve Online, except with first person flying. I also, assumed I guess, that you could mine, hunt npc's for money, and kill other players for money/loot. And that their would be a massive player driven economy, also like Eve.
So is ED mainly a single player game with a few multiplayer aspects, or a real MMORPG?
What's with the hate? It sounds like you haven't even played ED yet...
Wait what? you can just suddenly decide to turn on/off solo/pvp? Surely they know that will be abused if you can do it anytime/anywhere.
Hate is a strong word, I'm just calling it like I see it; trying to figure out if the player base will tank to the point that it's better to play on launch day or wait 3 months for the game to be more polished? I was hoping for Ironman mode on launch. You are a fool to ignore public perception.
Gamespot makes a mockery of the latest Elite trailer:

I'm really tempted to buy this setup. My big issue now, especially with a lot of recent comments, is if the game will be good enough to spend $300+ extra on top of the game purchase. I think I'll wait till tomorrow night or so and decide if it's worth the money. For around 300'ish I would suggest the CH Fighterstick/pedals/throttle:
Joystick:

Pedals:

Throttle:

CH is known for being one of the most well built joystick setups out there, usually one of the most precise and well built. It's not uncommon for people to have them for 10+ years and they still work just as well.

Have they said what time release is? Tonight midnight est? or UK? or what.
It is a big chunk of change to spend on just one game or game genre. You could start with a lower end joystick like the Thrustmaster T16000 or the T-Flight HOTAS. One of the Twitch ED streamers started with playing with a Logitech Extreme 3D. All of those sticks are <$50. And there are players that use mouse/kybd in ED. Some even swear that it's better than joystick HOTAS, so you may want to give that a try too. YMMV
But for me, who's been playing flight and space sims for decades, anything less than a joystick/throttle/pedals in any flying game feels goddamn unnatural.
You haven't had any first-hand experience with the game, and your opinion is solely based on FD forum chatter and you're calling him foolish?
Which applies to every single pre-rendered game trailer ever released, but for some reason it's fine when Blizzard does it.
My first experience with SWTOR was a couple of months ago, yet I called that game tanking on day 1 release, just based on reading the forum and seeing the one, God's honest review that wasn't overhyped fanboy shit ( and I thanked him for it in the Youtube comments ). Not only am I psychic, I can read - it's a gift. It's called taking a scientific average of other people's opinions. It's not difficult to do. You may have heard of a website called Metacritic or Gamerankings.com
Isn't science wonderful?
If only it was just "forum chatter". You can read in the comments section, in the PC gamer article, posted above this post, that obviously, that's not the case.
There's more than enough reading material in the General Discussion section:

It's a $5 garage band ffs LOL Most people's ears are bleeding from the trailer.
