Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

I think the biggest issue is that there is nothing between hell and inferno. Once you hit lvl 60, if you are not geared enough for inferno, then you need to just farm hell content for gold to try to afford gear that will allow you to progress into inferno, because the drops in hell are not good enough to do inferno. It's like playing wow, dinging level 85, and just jumping into raiding without even going through heroics.

I do agree. I went from Hell->Inferno and it took me a long time to get solo butcher down. I believe I downed him using a 650ish 2H I found during my A1 Inferno play through and I barely got the kill before the soft enrage. I didn't use the AH at all for it amazing as that is, or I'm just incredibly lucky with some of my drops.

I actually died due to fire on the floor everywhere but butcher was so low that he charged the wall and killed himself which earned me the kill + the achievement for having him kill himself. God bless venom hydra :p

A2 was a whole different ball game. :(

Yeah, cause I'm at 14k HP now and I haven't even finished nightmare mode yet, lol.

The difference is, your health globe probably doesn't look like a goddamn beating heart. Thats what it looks like if you build around resists and life-on-hit with fast weapons. Your health globe refills constantly as soon as it goes down again.

So a little something like this:

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#bdgiXk!ZUX!ZbYZba

Looks interesting. Heh, yeah, Mantra of Conviction with Overawe is just too damn good to put down...especially after the Mantra of Healing nerfs.

I can never get over how slow Deadly Reach is, though. But I suppose that's why you emphasize fast weapons. Not the fastest of killing builds, but should be very survivable. And I like the synergy of Dashing Strike to keep the baddies coming at you in a line to make better use of Deadly Reach.

50% armor buff. Thats all you need to know about Deadly Reach. :D

There are other things to consider. Reach gives you...well, reach, to avoid all the 'dont stand in the fire' garbage. You will still get stuck there sometimes if frozen or jailed but you can usually survive anyway and bubble or Dash away if it gets hairy. Also the different monk basic attacks return different percentages of your life-on-hit.

edit: I should add, once I get cash my next purchase is a String of Ears. 20% melee damage reduction belt

Thats the biggest problem - I can solo Act 1 Inferno but I can't even get past the first tunnel in Act 2 without dying. Act 1 Inferno doesn't drop stuff useful most of the time. I should not be getting level 54 items in Inferno period.

You get best bang for your buck when armor mitigation is close to resist mitigation. Even though survival scales linearly with armor and resist, when combined, adding one will have more benefit if they're not balanced.

I'll find the chart when I get home, but for example you have very high armor and very low resist, each point of resist can equate to like 30 pts of armor, so go for resist. On the other hand, for high resist low armor, adding a point to resist can be as little as effectively adding 6 pts of armor.

For monks, to get high resist, focus on a single resist, of your choice, and stack that with resist all stats on gear. For example, look for +70 resist all and +30 resist fire armor, that could be equivalent to +100 resist with that passive.

Thanks for the help guys!

Breath of the dying, would you mind PM'ing me this chart if you get a chance? I know I am going to forgot to check when I get home from work.

Too bad I have absolutely nothing for gold. Looks like I'll bee running actIII on hell when I get home until I go to bed.

Anyone got any tips for what sort of gear I should look for for DH inferno?

Right now I have a legendary bow I spent 200k on that has the following abilities:
Attack speed increase 12%
Life on hit, 67
Some other stuff I can't remember now that I'm at work. Issue is its only around 850 dps bow, but I still crit around 30k.

My main issue is what do I look for in armor? Just resist, armor and dex?

One guy suggested that for wiz you look for a baseline of 50 int/vit/res all on all your gear and its much better overall in inferno. I would expect that would work for any class just sub in your base stat for int.

Pretty much, and just like the other poster mentioned, get the armor that stacks res. ie: +30 to poison res, and +24 to all res. It helps a lot.

Right now I'm between 130-180 on my res. How high should it be for survival folks? I'm assuming upper 200's to 300's?

You'll probably hate me, but last night I found a 747 dps bow with 180 dex, 17% IAS, and a socket for 8500 gold. I was amazed! I guess someone really wanted to get rid of it or had no clue what they were selling.

How many 5-stack valor runs on hell diablo have you done? I used to think nothing good dropped in hell, but when I was measuring gold/hr in act4 hell, and diablo dropped a really good ammy that I still use in my defensive set in act 3 inferno.

Even 5-stack runs don't yield good stuff every time, but there is good loot in hell. Meph and baal were the same in d2, not every kill gave something good, and they needed to be farmed to get through hell.

Also, try to stack mf and switch before boss kills. At 280% total mf, siegebreaker seems to always drop 3 rares instead of the normal 2 with 5-stack

Do not take the advice of a tank class for your dps class. Vitality is useful, as well are resists, but if you do not have the raw damage to kill stuff, you will not progress. Get whatever stat gives you damage. I have not played a DH, but I would assume for DH, dexterity, attack speed, crit damage, crit chance. Attack speed is huge for me on my WD. I'm unclear how armor works vs resists, as armor does not indicate anything about the level of the attacker, and I am unsure how resists work for higher level mobs.

950-1000+ dps on bows and xbows is pretty trivial to get from the gold you have right when you hit 60 (as long as you didn't make the mistake of investing in the blacksmith or making the hell pony staff). 747 is actually quite low.

Do not invest heavily into anything but dex / ias / crit / crit dmg as a DH. You can get SOME vitality just to be able to deal with reflect damage and the odd electrocute elite, but if you invest a lot of gold trying to get resists and HP up, you will only hate yourself when you can't kill anything properly because your DPS is lacking.

You could gear for some survivability in A1 Inferno, but that quickly becomes a futile effort in A2 and especially in A3 and A4.

I cannot stress this enough: Demon Hunters do NOT have ANY damage reduction abilities aside from Gloom (terrible skill). They are the hardest classes to outright gear for damage mitigation. The passive defensive capabilities of dodging from dex does not help avoid getting 1 shot later on. WD's and Wizards get natural resistance from Int and they also get damage reduction skills that are actually viable for surviving beyond 1 hit. Melee classes have an absurd amount of damage reduction they can stack on top of a passive 30% reduction.

As such, you will be insanely disappointed with your "survivability" gear when you can't kill a thing in A3 and A4 while still getting 1-2 shot.

To be quite fair, I never farmed Hell. I have never run anything in Hell with neph valor except to run a buddy through something. We were able to start farming butcher the day we beat Hell Diablo. It's MUCH easier nowadays to get the gear you need to farm A1 Inferno. Back in the day (a few weeks ago hah), I spent 1.25 mill on a 872 dps bow. Nowadays, that same bow might be worth 50k or less. In other words, you should easily be geared enough to clear A1 Inferno with very cheap items off the AH.

Speaking of switching, I saw a neat way to do that. If you can make mouse macros with your drivers, you can macro 'right click' like 20 times in a row. Then you bind that macro to a button and 'swipe' your cursor across a row of MF gear while holding the button. In a second you have swapped all your gear.

Can you please accept my friend request on D3? I need some help. BigT# - I forget my character code. PM me.

Is IAS when you search for attack speed increase on AH?

So I should just add the green gems and not worry about anything else, just make sure my armor and items are for level 60 and are the best with the best stats including increase in resistance to all? What does physical resistance mean?

The problem is that unlike a raid in WoW, 99% of the drops in Inferno are not good enough for Inferno.

Hmm interesting points. My Dex is currently at 1440, and I have a lot of IAS gear. I think I am around 67 IAS. I try to find stuff that have +DMG modifiers, IAS, and Dex.

So you're saying it's pointless to try to up Res? I was just sick of getting 1 hit poison shots.

If you're Big T, then I think I already accepted you.

Dex gems should be what you're using for slots (except helm of course). The easiest and cheapest way to get a lot of dmg is to get the 70 dex / 15 attack speed rings and a similar amulet. Those things are very good DPS items while being abundant in supply since they can apparently spawn from vendors (the same can be said for 70 int / 15 attack speed ones. The str ones are also abundant but less useful since barbs need to get defensive stats).

So you're saying it's pointless to try to up Res? I was just sick of getting 1 hit poison shots.
It's pointless to try to gear for a playstyle where you can survive hits since that'll be a bigger brick wall than you could possibly anticipate while being in A1. That's the very reason melee has such a hard time - they don't have an option, they HAVE TO get the items that simultaneously give them good survivability as well as reasonable DPS. Right now, the DH's playstyle means he can do well in Inferno while completely avoiding getting hit (kiting + SS) as opposed to trying to survive getting hit. In theory you can get enough resists to survive a single hit (this varies from mob to mob of course), but the DPS tradeoff / gold cost of such items is prohibitive (keep in mind monks would REALLY like those high resist + dex items). And even if you can now survive 2 hits - now what? It's not like you can recover that hit very easily. You're still extremely fragile while doing a fraction of the damage.

Yes that's me. Okay thanks I'll try that out first. I'm about to survive a bit in A2, but mostly sticking to Act1 until I can get 1000+ dps bow, plus some stat upgrades.

EDIT: So no point in getting +armor, +strength and resists? Just straight dmg and attack speed before everything else, right?

Sounds like it. And that's gay. I want dex to give crit and dodge, strength to give armor and something, maybe just enough armor to matter... why not balance this so that all stats are useful?

All the criticisms in this thread i 100% agree with. I wish this game were better than the moneygrab it turned out to be.

That being said, all these flaws didn't stop me from having a blast last night. Normal through Hell is excellent with friends. And the fix i realized for Normal being a snooze fest? Stop picking gear that's good lol. Just max MF/GF and screw the other stats.

Finally farmed inferno over the weekend...I can see it getting old pretty fast, but I'm still on the enjoyment side of the curve. Actually got 3 legendaries over the course of a few days...1 ring, which was actually quite good for my wizard. The others were a 2H crossbow (500DPS) and a 1H mace(~325DPS), both level 60, with terrible DPS which made them quite useless. Although the 1H mace was great for my templar follower...that guy has 62k HP right now and it's so much easier playing with him as a tank and no one else.

I'm having a hell of time in hell with my lvl 53 dh. Keep getting owned by creatures that use the molten lava.
One of them was the yellow spider, he'd throw up a wall and fill it with lava and I'd get stuck and die in seconds.
I think my character is severely handicapped, 4500 damage, 1700 armor, 25k HP.
Not sure what my total dps is but I have 2 crossbows with 250 dps each.

250dps weapon in hell is pretty low. I am "settling" for a 820dps spear atm in Inferno on my wiz.

Do not ever dual wield... using a quiver with good dex is much better for dps. 1 handed crossbows are also severely outclassed by the 2 handed weapons.

I suspect you're having difficulty with molten because you aren't using smokescreen.

I am having a hell of a time as well. 33k Health, like 1800 dex. 30/60 resistances. Have a 880 cross bow with around a 24.5k unbuffed DPS. Buffed it is like 40k, but I still get owned on act one champion mobs that can either teleport or those I can not kite.

I was using rapid fire, but switched to nether tentacles. Either my movement speed sucks, but even with custom engineering I still dont see how you can effective kite.

You know a class that can kite? Fucking Witch Doctors.

Hmm I dont know about that. For level 53 I think 250 for a 1 hander is pretty average. You can prob get a little higher but I don't recall seeing 1h items 350+ at that level.

Once you hit 50, look for higher level weapons that have reduced level requirement. Level 60 weapons can do a shit ton more damage.

I only dual wield since my quivers didn't give me enough.
Adding the second weapon gave me 2k HP, and 600 damage as well as some strength and added 11% shooting speed.
Both weapons are almost the same so I lose the same using a quiver.
I also bought them at the AH since I was using a 128 dps weapon and needed a bit more power.

You need fire resist.

EDIT: Just something to keep in mind if you are using two 1 handed bows. You will need your other items to make up for whatever you miss from the quiver. I have a higher end quiver that adds 14% attack speed. So I'd need some bows that have a lot of qualities other than just DPS to make it worth while. (There's a lot of bows out there that just add a few stats and are pure DPS with no abilities.)

I put a level 55 xbow 370 dps in the ah yesterday there were one or two in the 400+ range for level 55. It dropped in heaven inferno with minus 5 level requirement. So 250 isnt totally outclassed but not near the best either.

I have a level 49 two handed crossbow with 414 dps. They do exist! Paid 1,500 gold for it. No attack speed on it though. :(

I went and bought a new 1 handed xbow, 292dps and just used my socketed quiver and stuck green square gems in everything but the helmet.
Damage is 5998 and health went down to 21k. Weapon is much is much much stronger.
At first I thought I was playing nightmare level since I was killing things so easily.

Buddy of mine and me were runing Inferno Siegebreaker yesterday and he actually got a 2h Xbow with 780dps with a minus 14 level requirement. Could you imagine a level 46 with a near 800 dps bow?

Hold onto that until PVP comes out...I'm willing to bet it will be hugely valuable then.

That's what I put on my DH, but it was -15 level req. It was amazing at level 45, and still is as I approach 60 (DH is on hold for now though). :D Those weapons can be a bit pricey though because most people know there are others out there who will pay a premium to "twink" out their characters.

I assume that as more and more peopleget to lvl 60 and inferno, prices will fall as more and more people farm these weapons?

It depends. The more common drops will fall (and have already fallen) drastically in price (there are some pretty good gear for each slot that can be had for cheap). The high end stuff have skyrocketed in price though. A dex andy's helm is 7 mill now. My friend bought one for 2 mill a week ago.

Barbarians in inferno act 2 are a joke. White mobs are simple enough but to be able to compete with the elite packs it seems to me that the only viable build is a tank build. 1-hander with shield. Block % has to be atleast 40%, armor around 10k and resists of atleast 800-900. The only way to get that type of gear is to buy it from the AH for millions of gold. Put their by all the ranged classes farming the later acts.

How do you guys farm that much gold? AH selling? selling blues to vendors? Crafting and selling? Just running acts over and over?

Grinding out the same level over and over and selling on ah will do it. If I farm gold in a group I make 30k an hour +.
