When I alt-enter to enter windowed mode I get a 20 fps boost. Seems kinda odd. Anyone have a clue why?

I play everything exclusively in windowed mode, that way I can browse, work, do whatever. it is not as quite as immersive as having the ultrawide exclusively for games but I don't miss it. run everything on high, no issues.

How does SLI work in this game?

According to Steam, I've played 3 hours, but that's probably because I creep around, loot and pillage, and hack everything possible; I just got to Kholer and got my augs fixed. I've not had any performance issues, but I'm not sure I've gotten to the areas that people have issues with. I'm on a GTX 1080 and I'm running a mix of Ultra and Very High settings at 1440p, I have dipped into the mid-50s, but most stuff has been over 60FPS; I'd be surprised if DX12 brings much improvement.

I'm not familiar with that audio setup. Does your motherboard support Dolby Digital Live or DTS Connect or is there software that comes with the headset that uses either of those technologies or a proprietary software/driver included with those headphones that encodes surround sound for headphones? Your audio device either isn't setup correctly or Deus Ex isn't properly working with the your audio device's software; if sounds are missing, then I would lean towards your audio device not functioning properly. When dealing with an optical connection, you can only transmit audio one of two ways: stereo or Dolby/DTS-encoded 6-channel audio.

When audio is missing (ex: can't hear anything behind you), the game is indeed trying to send audio to side or rear audio channels, but your audio device is not picking this up because it's not set to receive or output audio from those channels. If you can link me to a manual for your headphones, I'd be glad to browse it and see if they offer a proper solution, otherwise, if an audio driver or software for your headset exists on your computer, you need to figure out how to configure it to mix surround signals to stereo or encode surround to Dolby or DTS to send to the base that is transmitting audio to your headphones, that's the only way you will receive those signals through an optical connection.

Other than that, I've seen that optical connections using Dolby or DTS encoding have caused problems for games in the past, so if your audio device is indeed setup correctly, there could be a problem with Deus Ex properly initializing its audio engine to send audio to your device. I can test this myself, but it might be this weekend before I do so.

Still not that far yet but so far the game has been performing alright for me. Was getting some slowdowns in the first area at times but not as much now.

I've noticed a few graphical glitches...white dots on Alex's face in that first cutscene, some rendering bugs where TAA seems to turn on and off on some things randomly. Nothing too major but could stand fixing.

I had a weird issue once where I tried to get out of my Stash, and all game movement input just stopped working. Couldn't move, couldn't do much of anything except open menus and close. Had to reload a previous save. Didn't happen the next time I tried.

I'm really torn on this game... I really want it but I don't want to support the ridiculous DLC practices.

Just wait for the inevitable directors cut. Then you'll get all the DLC and the game for likely less than the game now without DLC.

I was hoping for a single GPU vs SLI comparison, but thanks anyway.

So in your experience, with the 1080 sli, would you feel you sacrificed a lot of IQ for the framerates you are playing at?

I tend to ignore microtransaction DLCs, unless they made the game impossible without such DLC (which I haven't heard anything of the sort), they just make the game easier, but not necessary for full enjoyment of the game.

If I buy the game anytime soon (unllikely, since I will need to get a GPU upgradefirst), I won't use them, especially considering they only last for 1 save game.

they only last for 1 save game?...what the hell?...so you pay with real $$ and don't even get to keep whatever you buy...that might be the most ridiculous microtransaction in history

I am not entirely sure on this one, to be perfectly honest, but there was a mention of it one or two pages ago that it lasted for 1 save game.

EDIT: found the post, it was in the OTHER thread.

Again, don't take my word for it, I didn't buy the game just yet

Are we talking about the pre-order DLC packs? I seriously hope that is not the case. That would be completely inane.

Eyup. The consumable items that come with pre-orders are one time use only. The developers are claiming it's due to some first party issues but I'm calling bullshit on that one. Here is an article about it: Square Enix apparently misleads with Deus Ex: Mankind Divided pre-order bonus

Taking microtransactions for SP content to new levels of stupid. Not even EA and Activision have been this brazenly rapacious.

    Wow...that is...shitty.

I guess what you can do (mentioned on Reddit) is create a save very close to the start, then just re-use that save for future playthroughs. Though I think you can't change the difficulty then?

    Whole thing is very stupid.

FWIW I haven't redeemed any of the DLC and I probably won't be until we see where this goes (if anywhere).

EDIT: Here's another suggestion from Reddit:

Pirate it. Seriously. I bought it, but when it's like this... just pirate it when it's available. Maybe buy it when it's 5 bucks or something if you feel bad. You'll probably have a better experience, too. Denuvo is probably one of the reason the game runs like shit.

Honestly, I've bought every game I've played, but I am really tempted to do this. Either that or I'll pick it up when it goes on a mega sale.

Dam that's a pretty shitty thing to do. How do I know if I claimed it? I honestly don't know if I did but for some reason I think I did. At the start of the game after I fixed my augs I was like I have 11 praxis how did that happen lol. Still it doesn't really matter, if I wanted to I can just get a trainer for the consumables so it's no big deal IMO but on principle I'd probably have not preordered it and waited for a deep discount sale because of this stupidity if I had known in advance.

If that is how people feel about the microtransaction, then, at the very least, wait for a couple of patches. If players speaks out enough about the microtransaction (or if you even want to be part of the voice), then there might be hope of them reversing the whole micro thing, just like they did with the 'tiered' pre-order bonus thing.

I personally haven't bought the game yet, purely from practical point of view, I don't have any GPU to run it (970 is definitely NOT going to cut it at 1440p), and I currently have big enough of a game library (I haven't even finished HR for example) to wait a few months for the game to sort itself out.

Honestly don't see the outrage over dlc it's probably the most harmless of its kind, certainly far better then last time with HR where there was exclusive weapons and a quest left out of the game. Selling cheats is dumb but as far as launch dlc goes it's quite tame and easy to ignore id prefer to not have it at all.

*edit* turns out the game does have a preorder mission desperate measures anyone know if that is saved locked?

PC gaming is really odd right now. We have things like Xbox Anywhere and Sony's new streaming option. Steam's popularity is at an all-time high. Even most ports have been surprisingly good as of late. My consoles are gathering dust. Yet we still have messes like this.

In the original Deus EX non-fatal weapons were way OP compared to fatal ones. Tranq guns and tasers were all one hit disable weapons where bullets took multiple hits to kill unless you got a head shot, and depending on the enemy sometimes even those took a few.Getting the no fatalities achievement was actually the easiest way to play the game nearest I could tell since once a baddy was down they were effectively dead, they'd never get back up and chase you, never get up and sound an alarm, so the game was actually harder to play if you wanted to kill everything.

Is this one still like that or did they make tasers and tranqs temporary or at least not a guaranteed 'kill" if you just landed a hit anywhere on an enemies body?

Figured out a way to solve the problem for now at least. :p

2 x Titans on the way.

Had planned on it anyway even before this and I've got someone in my office who will take them off my hands if I change my mind within a month, so no loss to me.

Looking forward to seeing just how much better FFXIV runs maxed out with these. The 970's do ok but they struggle in raids. I'm likely still going to be a little CPU bound though.

I'm pretty sure they stay down for the length of the mission, but I'm not sure. I used the tranq rifle in the starter/tutorial mission and never had a problem with guys getting back up.

If you land a headshot they take a second to drop but it's guaranteed. Not sure about body shots because I only land headshots.

You fucking drown in regular ammo. Non lethal takes a little more effort to come by.

I think the tranq takes a min to take effect of you don't hit the noggin but I can't remember. I've punched almost everyone so far and have only fired off a few darts.

I also like how the leg boost that makes you jump high still puts you right at the cusp of fall damage, just like HR. It was basically unusable without the Icarus thing. Like an extra foot of distance is nearly lethal.

I nearly killed myself instantly after I got it because I jumped off a fucking bench or something.

Non-lethal takedowns and weapons do not permanently kill the enemies either, they can be 'waken' up by the enemy.

If you are not the stealthy type, you are fine though, playing stealth with no lethal kills was a nightmare.

As much leeway as they give you with takedowns, the stealth approach doesn't seem THAT daunting. So far I've just been sneaking around and taking people down with beatdowns to the best of my ability. Once I either get discovered (or get lazy), then I go Rambo.

Here's a question about my inventory. So far, I'm finding tons and tons of beers, wines, and spirits. Do they serve any kind of purpose beyond the "combine" function? They're eating up a lot of inventory space.

    A $2400 hammer :wideyed:

I will certainly be looking forward to seeing your results. Hopefully the performance issues will be mitigated via software so that we don't have to resort to such measures, but I can't imagine that there will be anything for the foreseeable future that won't run well with horsepower of that magnitude.

Be sure and post numbers of both single card and SLI, since the SLI and CF results reported earlier were pretty wonky in some cases.

$2,592.49 with tax and the SLI bridge..... :p

I'll try to get some numbers... though I'm likely not the best one for benchmarking really. Patience isn't a virtue I'm afraid. ;)

I sell them, some bring a lot of credits. hopefully nobody asks for any. Note also, you have storage space in the house.

and speaking of selling stuff, the guns bring in a lot of money, but if you pick up more than one of the same type it eats the gun for the ammo. so... hopefully you have a dealer nearby

Wow, this again? That always bugged me and yea i was that person that found a gun, dropped mine on the ground to pick up the other one, ran to the dealer to sell it, then ran back and picked up my original weapon. Friggin pain in the ass for farming some credits. The first game didn't really require you do that, but now with microtransactions it seems they're keeping up with the lame.
