Destiny - Discussion Thread

Playing on Ps4. I have way too many friends on that I can only play with a few at a time. Its a blast with RL friends.

Seeing all the reports from people who are "done" and "completed" the game in 10 hours, I am just left wondering what game it is they played?

I mean sure, rush through each story mission one after the others, but then you miss out on the pvp, the events, patrols, finding loot, etc.

They're playing the game they bought. The narrative is piss poor, I have yet to see an event (saw many in alpha/beta), 'patrol' is boring and for the most part there is no worthwhile loot to find. Yes, there are like six gold chests on each map, but I've never gotten anything worthwhile out of them ("oh, a crafting agent I have no use for yet, that's.... great"). Regular enemies hardly EVER drop anything so there's really no reason to roam around and kill them, especially since it's not very fun.

I don't give a shit about PvP, and clearly more than 80% of the time and resources spent on this game went into the parts of the game that are NOT PvP so those parts SHOULD be great, but they're not!

I was not convinced by alpha/beta. I literally bought the full game just so I could play through it and critique it. It's the only thing I find really interesting about it. How the hell did they spend this much time, effort and money and end up with this design? Do they really think this is great?

No, given the ambitions, Destiny is failure. The only thing that can save this as a franchise is a second game which makes this the Mass Effect 1 to ME2. (Note: This game will sell gangbusters, that's not what I'm talking about)

Yeah I think Bungie spent 250 million on Hookers and Beer while pissing away the rest of the game with the other 250 million for development costs. Ducking for cover the entire time hiding behind rocks isn't really fun to get your life up. I'm almost level 8 can't wait to fight a different race then the Derg. If you inspect another player you get a trophy FYI but no trophy for dancing.

Stuff I don't care for

a. AI is dumb they are smart but annoying

b. Gun sounds are bad

c. Lack of immersion

d. That they spent 500 million on this game is beyond words....

e. loading screen with your ship is way too damn slow

e. Narration of guy speaking to you while doing mission is stupid.

f. Mobs just swamp you at times unless you back up and do your special to get rid of them.

g. Not being able to group with PUGs at the end of mission is a real downer cause your friends are all at different levels and parts of the game.

First few hours of gameplay remind me of Defiance, but with less open world roaming and less community events.

Some early thoughts on the game after getting to level 10.

1) The game is much more fun if you are in a fire team rather than trying to go alone solo....it gets old quick.

2) There needs to be more loot...more shiny shit to collect. Someone compared this to Diablo and I think it that is a good way to look at it. After 10 levels and multiple hive clears killing mini-bosses and hive bosses, there is precious little goodies to show for it.

3) Many of the mission endings are just wave after wave of baddies followed by big boss. I'm okay with that as long as you implement No. 2. Otherwise, boredom will set in fast.

4) Grouping has got to be made easier. Luckily I have friends who play, however, I can see very quickly that its a PITA to find people to group with.

5) I've not come across or experienced any type of apprentice system so you can play with your friends who are higher/lower level than you.

6) Dear god the loading screen going in between planets and the tower takes way way way too long.

With all that said, I find the game fun and there is a gem in here somewhere. It needs some polishing to come out.

You could microwave a bag of popcorn when switching planets. I want to group with randoms that is what made Borderlands 2 great.

It's mindless fun for me thus far. The Borderlands comparisons are valid, but I dunno if this game is as good.
So far my only huge gripe is that everything feels too "solid." Almost nothing is interactive, even though so many things look like they should be.

I'm surprised so many people don't like this game. I'm super picky when it comes to console titles. I normally get bored within a few days but I can see myself playing this game for awhile. My brother and I played for a few hours yesterday and it was a lot of fun.

The game played like Beta which is exactly what I expected. If you expect something different then it's your fault. I'm loving this game. I'm level 12 and have been playing solo except for matchmaking on Strike. I see myself playing for months to come.

Likewise, its like people never played the alpha and beta of this game and expected something radically different from what was already to be expected. The PvP is a hell of a lot more fun than many console fps out there.

The Borderlands games do "this" way better across the boards.

It is so much more fun when you have others to play it with. I went ahead and picked it up for the 360 and played a bit with a buddy and it was a blast. Wish I had more time last night to play but was my night for baby duty.

I'd agree the pve is better done in borderlands due to the loot drops but destiny does a lot more than borderlands does. Just wish the drops were better.

A lot of people said that about Titanfall too... and about two weeks later "Well, I'm pretty much done with this, it was fun but it gets old fast"

I agree 100%. I still stand by my original opinion on the game when I first tried alpha/beta.

Destiny is fun, but it's missing that spark. I think the fact that so many of my buddies have the game now will keep me playing, however I am still waiting for my Borderlands MMO!

I play the game for the PvP feature and find that a blast. Its better than any other console fps out there right now for that. CoD comes pretty close, but nothing touches those two in terms of sheer enjoyment for me on a console.

To each on their own, I could never get in to Borderlands, I did not like how the game played, environment and all the stuff, but I played Destiny beta non-stop and was sad to see it go.

I am still starting with a rental this evening though, I'll buy it if I like it. I learned my lesson with the retarded UFC game...

I'm level 11 now finished the Raid on Earth pretty tough died a lot but guys rezed me.
Multiplayer played 5 matches of capture the control points my god you can get owned pretty bad in MP =) I mean flanked Nuked plus your playing with a console controller so it's really awkward I have no idea how someone can get 35 kills unless they have a really good stragety. Kinda wished I went with a class with heavier armory then my warlock but Warlocks can nuke but it doesn't help if you can't get close.
I'm not sure if playing on a 40" TV would help in multiplayer the maps are so big and everyone is so small on the screen on my 27" monitor camera and getting flanked though even if you know the maps =)

The whole thing with Jetpacks in Multiplayer I mean you are above someone so right away they are a disadvantage like in Duke Nukem Foever the Jetpacks are overpowered I know they have them in Halo.
I haven't played all modes of Deathmatches.

I didn't know you get grouped with Randoms in the the Raids it groups you I thought you needed friends or something.

I am in the same boat. I couldn't get into Borderlands but I'm loving Destiny. I think the environment has a lot to do with this.

One thing that I would've liked is some way to go immediately into PVP. I'm only level 4, but it appears I have to reach a certain level before that opens up (somebody can correct me if I'm wrong). I assumed that I'd still be able to enter PVP, just that my piddly PVE stats would be boosted to a minimum level so that I could at least be competitive.

That's not how I look at it and it's not how anyone should be looking at it.

The game plays exactly like the Beta and since the beta was basically 25% of the final game that's the problem.

Content wise anyway, there are many other social and interactive issues with the game.

Edit: that's not to say it's a bad game, the foundation and core mechanics are there it just needs way more content and some easier social interaction.

Level 5 is the minimum for PvP. Everyone's stats are normalized in regular matches, but Iron Banner (event) matches take your stats into account, so you won't want to do those until you're max level and have some decent gear. I doubt they open Iron Banner for a little bit though. People need some time to level up first.

No, you played a 'strike', actual raids aren't open yet as far as I know.

They are going to HAVE to do something about the complete lack of in game voice comm's. I mean, Im in a PUG strike with 2 other guy's and there's no voice comm's? PvP, no voice comms?

That is just insane imo. Im having a blast but that just seems like a HUGE ass blunder on their part..

Played this for 2.5hrs last night, got to lvl 4. This game is kinda terrible.

- Got disconnected from the tower-hub-place every time I went there (error: anteater).
- Loading screens are long (not terrible, but with aforementioned disconnects from hub, meant 2x as many to sit through)
- As another guy mentioned, lots of stuff looks interactive, but they aren't. Borderlands at least had mailboxes and stuff that you could open for small loot gains
- Graphics are as expected (as in not that great). Some guy on reddit was claiming up and down that he games on a beastly rig on PC w/ a three monitor etc etc setup normally and that this game looks fantastic.. he was full of shit
- Monsters, as everyone have said, are bullet sponges with annoying AI. Its pretty good AI ( i guess?) but its annoying. Headshots or special abilities are absolutely required to kill bosses/elites
- Long press button commands are annoying (ex. Hold Triangle for 3 seconds to launch)
- UI tips/popups can be annoying, its minor but should be able to be disabled
- The story from intro had me pulled in...then they dropped the "Then the darkness came" bullshit. Killed it for me right there. Others have mentioned the backstory doesn't get explained very well
- The FOV is extremely narrow, I feel claustrophobic playing. I feel like this game would have been more enjoyable in a 3rd person view.

I'm going to play more to cap, play with friends/relatives here this weekend, but so far I am extremely disappointed that this is supposed to be a flagship "next gen" title. Then again I'm a hyper-cynical person too, so keep that in mind.

Bungie's excuse is that you might hear something offensive over voice chat. They are just protecting us from the evils of the world .

That's not even 1/4th of the complaints people have so you'll probably trade it in by the time you reach level cap and run a raid if you make it that far.

Is there much of a reason to explore levels? I'm usually one of those people that explores every nook and cranny and I'm not finding much. I've encountered a few enemies that are level "?" and are immune to everything...and I've encountered some crafting materials.

Not really IMO, unless you just like looking at things. But then, if it's worth looking at there's probably a mission that will get you there eventually (exploring in-mission is pointless).

There are the 'gold chests', around 5-6 on each world seems, but I can't remember getting anything worthwhile out of them.

Game has a halo feel and the music is great. REALLY enjoying this so far.

Can't wait till I get to the higher content, pvp, and eventually raids.

Played three crucible rounds last night and ended up scoring 30+ kills per game. I was on fire! Played with a friend living in Australia and the lag wasn't too bad for the both of us.

What classes are you enjoying and not enjoying?

I started with the warlock but haven't got far into the game yet bit so far he has been fun. Buddy is a titan and he is loving that but he has also been playing non stop since it came out.

Anyone on ps4 need someone to play with? Coming from xbox mainly to ps4 I hardly have anyone on my friend list and the onest hat play are waaaaaaay ahead of me.

Currently level 9 , playing as a hunter.

Feel free to add me if you want to randomly co op or anything, psn is Gyloir.

I've always been a hunter as that was the only one that has intrigued me. Its the closest I'll get to UT or Quake like movements with the double and triple jumps lol.

Also did they make the sniper scope zoom in way too much since beta? Seems way more zoomed in now.

I'm really enjoying it as a Warlock. Hit lvl 8 last night, so I'm pretty happy with my progress. Looking forward to when the expansions are released with more story missions. My only complaint is the lack of drop loot... NEED MOAR DROP LOOTS BUNGIE :D
