Defiance Discussion Thread

The show was ok, maybe a 7/10, going to see how it develops in the next episodes to see if i really like it.
Btw just downloaded the game, any newish want to team up?

***EDIT*** Didn't see mtbush's response. Had to go to work and continued posting a couple of hours later :)

Alright slippery, there are two methods to go about this - manual install or automatic via 'configurator.'

Once you have the files downloaded and placed in the defiance.exe folder, you will need to just tweak the ini files or replace the settings with a preset you like.

1) Extract or copy all the files into the directory of a game exe (keeping the file structure intact).

The installed files are:
d3d9.dll - DirectX 9 proxy dll that will inject shaders into DirectX 9 games
d3d9.fx - DirectX 9 specific shader code
dxgi.dll - DirectX 10/11 proxy dll that will inject shaders into DirectX 10/11 games
dxgi.fx - DirectX 10/11 specific shader code
shader.fx - Alternative DirectX 9 specific shader code for FXAA support.
injector.ini - Settings for the shader injector dlls - you can reconfigure the keys used in this file
SweetFX readme.txt - This readme
SweetFX_preset.txt - You can choose which settings file to load here - default is to load SweetFX_settings.txt
SweetFX_settings.txt - SweetFX settings. Effects can be turned on and off here, and their settings can be tweaked.

SweetFX/ (directory) - The SweetFX subdirectory.
|- /Presets/ - Presets are stored here.
|- /Shaders/ - All the shaders, except d3d9.fx and dxgi.fx are stored here.
|- /dlls/ - Alternative DirectX proxy dlls are stored here.
| |- /FXAA DX9 dll/ - You will need to use the FXAA DX9 dll to use FXAA. Copy it over the one in the main folder.
| '- /SMAA/ - The SMAA dlls if you need to return to them. These are the same as the ones in the main folder.
|- /Game_Compability.txt - Can't make SweetFX work with a game? - You can find help here.
'- /Making shaders.txt - A few hints on making custom shaders for SweetFX.

log.log - This logfile is not installed, but will be created when the DirectX proxy dll runs.
If something goes wrong, this file will usually tell you why.

Some games require special attention - You can find a list of those and instructions on how to get them working with SweetFX
in SweetFX/Game_Compability.txt
If you encounter a game not in the list that requires more effort to work with SweetFX, post about it in the official thread
on Guru3d : http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=376265

2) Install the latest DirectX update if you haven't already
Last I looked it was here : http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35
(You don't need any of the other stuff Microsoft tries to push - just DirectX)

Check out the following two sites:

http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/sweetfx_shader_suite_download.html

This site is the main 'discussion' page, if you will. They have a lot of helpful info and tweaks.

http://sfx.thelazy.net/games/game/127/

I advise that you download 'configurator' in conjunction with sweetfx. The application will allow you to auto enable sweetfx and give a myriad of other options for your ini files. It definitely assists in finding the best graphical setting possible.

Thanks guys! I used one of the presets since I didn't feel like going through and figuring it all out, the game does look quite a bit better. More vibrant, less dull.

It could develop into a very quality show. It didn't insult my intelligence at least.

Check the Hot Deals section it's on sale for $33 right now, i'm still on the fence about it myself.

It's not on sale, that thread in Hot Deals pertains to a grey market russian key re-seller (Intkeys)

It's funny how most of the public says the game is fun except for the gaming review sites.

Yeah, this is very true. But hey, hardcore sci-fi and shooter/mmo fans know what they like

Not currently but I'd imagine we will in the future

There are a few merchants as you get further in the game that have basic mods

Here is a quick weapon modding guide.

Vendors or 'merchants' are located in several locations throughout the game. Here is a rundown of the hidden vendors that sell 'rare/better' items.

Uh, greenmangaming is phenomenal. I still consider it on sale. :p

Odditory, do you think you can edit your first post and start a list of in-game names?

Reviews seem unflattering,

Gamespot 6.5/10

IGN, 5.9/10

I'm still tempted to pick it up since it should get better over time.

Yeah, those reviews are a bit off. But this game is an odd beast, like so many have said, it doesn't do any one thing great, and it isn't spectacular -- it's a mish mash of elements from other games, but it's fun. I'm still playing it almost 3 weeks later, and several of my friends have gotten the game because they kept hearing about it lately.

One friend liked it so much that he bought me an XBOX copy of the game so I could play with him.

Often you can tell if a game is going to tank by looking at the forum activity on various sites like Gamefaqs, and it's in the top ten of most active boards, so people are playing it and liking it.

Wasn't referring to Greenmangaming- and I agree that GMG is phenomenal - most of my Steam purchases in the last 6 months are from there. I was referring to another thread talking about Intkeys with $33 russian keys which I'd advise not supporting since those sites are like a cancer and if Steam decides to nuke the key then you're SOL.

Sure I'm happy to edit OP with in-game names.

Agreed.

That's a nice friend, lol.

Nice. I see that you deleted all the content from it as well lol - accident?

Anyways, add your name. Here is mine: Rex Norseman

Slippery in game (NA Region or whatever they are calling it). Can hit me up for Co-op or whatever. I also need a good Clan!

Anyone played after the latest large patch? Any impressions? I'm downloading it now.

Yup, this about sums it up. Jack of all trades game, imo. Not excellent at one thing, but good at everything.

Sweet, thanks. I'll look at this later tonight. I'm not sure why the modding system got such bad rep? I don't think it's hard to understand at all.

just finished the main story line in the core game. now to finish up the side quests. that i didnt do.

im still playing the game about an hour a day. i love how i dont have to drop alot of time into it. ill proabbly keep playing it as long as the tv series goes. or till star citizen comes out.

Your names didn't come up when I searched in game. Try to add mine.

I don't suppose anyone is in a decent Clan? I'm mainly just looking for something for the Boosts (What and asshole right?) and people to run stuff with occasionally.

I can't figure out how some people in multiplayer can kill me in just a few shots when it takes me 5-10 shots to kill anyone? They aren't using Overkill either...

Only 20s.

Haha!

By default it's the 'alt' key, but I remapped it in settings.

Had good time grouping up with slippery yesterday. Post your names so we can get more groups going.

I can't believe people defend the pvp in this though, the pvp is a joke. I'd 1000x rather play BF3 for something like that.

It's that bad, huh? I'll have to try it later tonight. The premise looked pretty cool - especially with the EGO powers. Only bad I have heard is that most everyone is spamming cloak and a shotgun.

Cloak, Shotgun, Detonators, bunny hop. That's all it is

Edit: Infectors and BMG some as well (since they basically can't miss)

Haven't tried pvp, but got some co op in with a random person for an hour or so, it was entertaining, only at 120 ego or so tho =/
