Defiance Discussion Thread

well looks like i will be quiting this game. Blame neverwinter

i kinda of figured this would happen. At least there is no subscription and i can come back when i feel like it.

One thing to keep in mind is if you cap the xp on a weapon you want to start using another one. A capped weapon no longer contributes to weapon skill

Glad to see interest in the game is gaining (or at least not dropping off entirely). As long as Trion continues to add content and address issues/bugs, I will be a happy camper. Having the show tie in helps keep me interested as well.

Funny, I always try to switch my weapon when maxed out, but the first sniper rifle I received is literally THE BEST weapon I have found (after mods).

Info about the first DLC

http://forums.defiance.com/showthre...alk-potential.&p=581380&viewfull=1#post581380

Usually, one would argue that’s not a bad thing and we’re thankful for you coming back again and again, and, more importantly, staying with us. We’ve had a number of posts on how we’ve addressed our issues and offered insight into those we still have left.

It’s good to see that we have made great progress since launch and we have teams continuing to make improvements and fix bugs. At the very least, the feedback and numbers indicate that you are happier. No, we haven’t forgotten about keycodes drop ratios, extended downtimes or Freight Yard. We know we aren’t perfect yet.

But what’s stated by players and critics alike, whether they love or hate us, is that we’re taking known concepts and doing something new, we’re fun, and we have potential. That’s not an excuse for not being perfect, but I’m certainly not going to complain about trying something new, fun and having potential.

“Defiance is the game that everyone will love” - Said nobody. Ever.

Some comments I&#8217;ve even enjoyed quite a lot and yet I&#8217;m happy that sentence never came up. It&#8217;s not us. We&#8217;ve been likened to a good <em>B-movie</em>, being about as deep as a bag of chips but great fun. As having issues, but always dragging you right back in for more &#8230; I have no problems with these, because we knew Defiance would be polarizing. We aren&#8217;t part of any mold, but we can always do better. Personally, I&#8217;d like to get to the two-bag of chip depth category or at least, add some salsas for various textures. We&#8217;ll be a party in your mouth before you know it. Your favorite B-movie.

As proof of us striving towards being better we have another major update coming, known as the TV Tie-in or Patch 1.020, and it&#8217;s coming out this month. It has further bug fixes, improvements, as well as new TV Tie-ins - one of which will utilize a new open world game mode called Sieges. Details are obviously slim, but it&#8217;s a crossover event so that should give you an indication of what this game mode entails in future DLCs.

Which incidentally this blog is intended to be about, the future. That potential.

We do our DLCs a bit differently with Defiance. Every time we do a DLC, of which we have 5 planned this year, we have a free component, a paid component and a store update. The free part is for everyone. We want people to be playing with their friends; we don&#8217;t like to isolate players.

That doesn&#8217;t mean there won&#8217;t be exclusive content in the DLCs, quite the contrary. The difference is that you can usually bring your friends with you. The catch is that they can&#8217;t directly benefit from all of it, like DLC specific loot or gain abilities.

Here is an example: The first DLC which we delayed to address live issues but is now en route I am calling: ENTER THE CASTITHAN till marketing comes up with a better name. Why Castithan? Why, it&#8217;s because you&#8217;ll be able to play a Castithan. Nifty. Here&#8217;s the tentative list of items:

ENTER THE CASTITHAN
(or imagine flashy name that evoke deep emotions)

You get this when you buy the DLC for $10:
- Access to play the Castithan Species
- Access to a new Story Mission Line with new Battle Arena Game Mode
- Access to the new Castithan Battle Arenas
- Castithan Charge Blade & Ceremonial Mask as a reward from Story Mission Line
- A unique version of the Raptor, a new 4 player truck of doom
- A unique Castithan version of an outfit
- A Charge Weapons Starter Pack
- Access to New Pursuits
- New Xbox and PS3 Trophies and Achievements

You get this in the DLC for free:
- Access to the new Charge Weapons Class and Castithan Blades
- Access to Sieges, a new Open World Game Mode
- Access to the new Monolith Major Arkfall
- Access to a new PvP Map - Military Academy
- Join a friend into the Battle Arenas Game Mode
- Duel your friends and neighbors in the Duels Game Mode
- Enemies, lockboxes, and events can drop Charge Weapons
- Select a new voice for you character
- Multitude of game improvements from UI to content

You can buy these individually from the store:
- New Mods that tint the color of your Castithan Blade
- Lockboxes have a chance to get Charge Weapons
- More versions of the Raptor, the new 4 player truck of doomed compensation
- Character Customization changes: Appearance change, name change, or everything change

This should give you a good idea of how we build up our DLCs and how we separate them into a free, paid and store component. And that&#8217;s on top of the improvements we do, like the redoing of the Salvage Matrix. That thing is like performing autopsies right now. Which &#8230; I wouldn&#8217;t know how to do of course.

But you get the idea. We take in feedback, we&#8217;re agile, we adapt. Things I talk about will change. That I do promise you. Doing the right thing for Defiance is more important than a line item in a discussion between you and me in a blog two months previously. But we prefer this discussion to be more open and liberal. You might not be used to that so I figured I&#8217;d point it out. Thanks for letting me share some insight with you, now comment away!

I'm not really clear if that DLC is coming this month or not, it doesn't really seem to say.

Also, I got the Season pass from GMG for like $20. Over the 5 DLC's that'll definitely be worth it.

My one gripe is that new races will likely mean if you want to be that race it's time for a new character. Considering the time it takes to get to 5k Ego and all the weapon skills leveled I'm not very likely to ever play a new race.

True, I'm only at 700 ego and I feel like that has taken me forever. No way in hell do I want to start a new character, unless it's in a different environment and has a different main story.

Well I guess I better buy that Season Pass then! I only got to 900+ EGO before I took a small break.

Wondering if anyone has a PC or XBox 360 pre order code they'd want to sell? Been looking for one with no luck.

PM me if you do!

I do have an extra PC copy. When I get home I'll my FS thread up and PM you.

WOOO CASTITHANS and Casti energy blades! Good choice, Trion! I was disappointed by the lack of both melee weapons (all varieties - come on guys, I don't want to smack people with the butt of my rifle all the time) and lack of additional playable races, especially Castithans (AKA "Jerk-Ass Space Elves"), so this is a good improvement. I hope they bring lots of cultural weapons/items/gear etc... from the various Votan races (as well as from Earth Coalition Forces) into future updates. It seems like the existing Irathient race, Castithans, and Indogenes all have a bunch of tech/lore etc.. that could alter play and add a ton of new features (ie Indogene tech implants, weapons etc...).

Just watched the last episode of the show and it's pretty fun. Never thought a game would make me watch a TV show.

Uh oh, this is troubling. Trion has laid off a good chunk of it's workforce today , mostly the Defiance team. There are conflicting reports of what roles have been eliminated, some are saying
it's only support staff nothing mission critical at this point. I don't think the game is going anywhere since the show got renewed for another season, but it's hard to see this having a positive outcome down the road.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/05/17/trion-hit-by-massive-layoffs?abthid=5196a20be01c35bd5a000028

This happens with pretty much every game. After the game has shipped, you don't need the full team anymore. You keep some on to create new content and you hire on additional support personnel. It's nothing to worry about (as a gamer).

Yeah, it sounds like their restructuring their model since they announced Rift was going F2P. Here's the official statement:

"To best position Trion in a rapidly changing industry, we have reorganized our teams and are expanding our free to play offering.
With Defiance, we delivered a great game that more than one million gamers registered to play and continue to enjoy. As we progress
from launch to ongoing development of the game, we are adjusting our staffing levels to deliver new content and improved features.
RIFT, and our other titles in development, were unaffected by these changes. We are very much looking forward to the free to play release
of RIFT and are excited by the other new titles currently in development."

Take from it what you will, but to me it sounds like Trion is going to focus more on Rift's cash shop.

I'd bet that they get money from Syfy to maintain Defiance. I'd also imagine that they make quite a bit from Defiance microtransactions.

Now I'm getting annoyed.... every single time trail I run, it adds 1-2 seconds onto my finish time, so I can't get gold. lol

&#9679; Significant Shotgun Tuning
&#8226; Shotguns are being tuned to bring them in line with the other weapons and personalities we want to obtain with each type of shotgun.
&#8226; Mag Size Changes: We have made changes to the mag size of all bonus size mods and rarity bonuses. This was largely due to shotguns getting a more shots per magazine then intended.
1. Rarity Bonuses that increased Mag Size have been decreased.
2. Clip Mods that increased Mag Size have been decreased.

&#8226; Elemental Proc Chance Change: We discovered that the shotguns were procing per pellet at the full proc chance. This caused the shotguns to have a much higher chance to proc the elemental effect then other weapons.
1. Changed the proc chance per pellet of shotguns. (Excluding Slug based shotguns)

&#8226; These two types of Shotguns are being tuned to bring them in line with the other shotguns.
1. Rate of Fire change for the Vot Auto Fragger: We have made this change due to speed at which a player could kill its intended target. This weapon now has slightly lower rate of fire to bring it in line with the other Combat Shotguns.
2. Recoil Increase in the TACC Auto-Shotgun: This change was to add a bit more variance in the recoil with the amount of shells it could shoot from its high mag capacity.

LOOT AND AMMO
&#9679; Tuned loot drops for several enemies.
&#9679; Looks like Murray dropped off an ammo crate near his docks.

VEHICLES
&#9679; Tweaked vehicle physics so they don&#8217;t feel quite as bouncy.

&#9679; Store Vehicles now have proper titles denoting tier.
&#9679; Fixed an issue in which vehicle stats were appearing as zeros when available as a vendor special.
&#9679; Fixed an issue in which your vehicle might be invisible in extremely crowded locations.
&#9679; Fixed an issue that caused vehicles to bounce abnormally off some objects.
&#9679; Vehicles were being used as weapons with very little risk, so we've increased the amount of damage that colliding with enemies does to vehicles to increase that risk.

VENDORS
&#9679; Titles are now available at hidden vendors.

DEFIANCE STORE
&#9679; Fixed an issue that prevented purchasing of more than one inventory slot upgrade at a time.
&#9679; Updated Bit purchase UI to help clarify the amount of bonus Bits included in the larger Bit packs.

EGO ABILITIES AND PERKS
&#9679; Reduced effectiveness of the Fortitude perk.

&#9679; Remove Ctrl+Q from quitting game
&#9679; Show inventory at vehicle merchants will list your current vehicles so you can compare them to the ones in the store
&#9679; Requirements are now displayed on the CO-OP matchmaking screen.

PLAYSTATION 3
&#9679; Fixed an issue that prevented back to back logins.

Lots of bug fixes, some weapon balance, improvement to episode stuff. Mention of a new game mode but no specifics.

Slippery in game, though I haven't been on much lately.

I don't think they've actually said when for the DLC

downloaded the game to give it a shot on the free steam weekend. let's see if it's any good or bad

I'll give it a shot for free. The show is not exactly keeping my interest that well.

Just played for a little bit. Game is fairly fun if all you care about is mindless shooting Gears of War-style. Not really much beyond that from what I can tell, but the Arkfall events are kinda fun if just to watch the chaos.

I'm still playing after hitting 1000 ego, which is beyond weird for me since I'm one of the first people to get bored with a game.

Everyone playing during the free weekend needs to make sure they do the Episode quests. That storyline lead directly into the Defiance pilot episode.

couldn't figure out how to get the free weekend deal so I figured for 30% off I would just purchase it.

Not as bad as lot of people make it out to be. Some respawn's take forever. Graphics not great but not as bad as some make it out. Still trying to figure a lot of things out. like how to add mods to weapons etc. Just got my ATV to go from place to place. Plus fast travel is also nice. seems this game is meant for a game pad, could just be me.

Def not a gamepad type of game, imo, since you're aiming to shoot.

I found out later not to use fast travel, but to use your runners (ATV's) to go where ever you need to go. The more you drive your runners, the faster they level up. The faster they level up, the better chance you have at getting gold in time trails. Do all of the vehicle goals and you get a black dodge challenger.

I had to get my runners to level 12 before getting gold in certain time trails. I think my runners speed is at +12% now.

Add me in game if you have any questions, my game name is madic.

the consolized UI is kinda bothersome, but the game itself seems pretty fun. Gonna play some more before the trial runs out and if I like it I'll buy it. I like Triion enough I'd be ok with giving them some more money

Def not a gamepad type of game, imo, since you're aiming to shoot.

The game plays GREAT with controllers. I play with the 360 controller. Aim assist makes up for the inaccuracy of the thumb sticks. Rumble makes it a lot more immersive. Also, since you drive a lot in this game, the controller is the way to go.

I haven't played since I got all gold on the trials and unlocked my black charger. Definitely like the game still, just took a short break. The life of a backlog gamer :)

To anyone interested in the game that hasn't purchased it yet, I have an extra copy I'm selling for $30 - activation code never used. I have a FS thread going.
