Defiance Discussion Thread

Finally had sometime to sink into Defiance over the weekend and I'm enjoying it for the most part.
I hit 425 EGO by completing main/side missions and arkfalls, I've only done a few challenges, haven't even attempted Shadow Wars.
I'm trying to alternate my weapons as much as I can for a well-rounded build. Just out of curiosity, how are other people leveling EGO?

Sometimes I'll log in and just do a 3.5 minute race over and over again while I watch a movie. You get a decent amount of XP that way. Plus I really like how the quad handles.

Finally got it for $30, thanks ebay! Installing it now.

Now I just need to lay my hands on a pre-order code. Love the new challengers in real life and the one in game looks sweet. From my understanding you can unlock a black/silver/white once you get to SF. Unfortunately, I love the red. Supposedly its the fastest car in game so far - does the speed really make a difference?

can buy an orange one as well.

i still find the quads (4whellers) are the best for going over terrain long distances. much faster then the red charger unless your on roads all the time

What's everyone's /played time and how's it holding up after a week. Thinking about picking it up some time this month.

I heard single player gets boring quick, but what about PVP?

Also, is this game cross platform?

I'm up to 966 Ego now and I still enjoy the game. 6/6 for all the city areas except Marin which is 5/7 since the one thing isn't in game atm. 46/104 for Season 1 overall. I'm mostly working leveling weapons and completing some of the easier pursuits.

A couple things bum me out a little right now. Not getting weapon xp during Ark Falls sucks, and the adding a few seconds to your time after Time Trials blows as well.

Anyone know if there is a faster runner then rest anywhere?

I found that the game gets boring quick overall. PvP is not much different because there are only 3 maps + Shadow War. There are supposed to be two huge patches next week with new content so we will see.

The game is available on PC, PS3, and 360 but it is not cross-platform. You only play with other players on the same platform as you.

Thanks for this.

I ordered the game and it won't be here until the 16th, so I'm hoping right around then the patches will be released.

going to download it tonight I reckon. been playing PoE.. but that games become almost unplayable with lag etc lately for me.. tired of wow again, etc. need something new.. this looks like it for now..

wow...Trion wasn't kidding when they said that patch was going to massive

Just wait until the game's bugs are ironed out so they can concentrate on content. Trion is well known for big content patches with one time and progressive events.

I have to admit. When I first loaded up the game, it was lackluster at best; graphics, gunplay. I heard Borderlands, Rift, and GW2...well the PCGamer review hits the nail on the head. There isn't one thing it does perfect with, rather a combination of little things that are done well.

The Arkfalls, sealed it for me. A lot going on and plenty of reactionary combat - akin to that borderlands feel I loved so much. I love anything with a story and gear, so am anxious to see how this pans out. Given Trion's track record of content updates and attention to its customers, I think the game will be fine.

I am definitely going to watch the show and keep playing at least through the foreseeable future.

Now...let's get an [H] clan going. Any takers?

Given Trion's track record of content updates and attention to its customers, I think the game will be fine.

They even already did a sorry for our rocky launch here have some free shit thing. It was just like a title and 10% XP/Loot/Scrip/Skills for a week, but at the same time I thought it was one of the smoothest launches in recent history.

yeah I'd like to know about the 30 dollar vendor as well. for that price I would give the game a try.

There really isn't one ebay vendor selling at $30. Just do a search and you should be able to find many. I purchased a physical copy.

Nice, cagey. I wanted it for 30 and nothing more, but I should have ordered from that site. I actually was on cdkeys before going to eBay...ah well.

Hmm, I noticed today I was getting weapon/skill xp during a scrapper ark fall. Was I just lucky or has that been fixed?

Wow... a whole 62 / 100

Yep its the same magazine that gave far cry 2 at 95/100 and Hellgate London a 89/100. I mean seriously who gives a fuck about their opinion.

As for Defiance it may not be perfect but at least im having fun.

Exactly.

Reviews scores are always subjective. Most people tend to follow review sites that closely adhere to their own opinion or 'gamestyle.'

For me it basically it comes down to finding a review that paints you a picture of what the game is like in a objective manner - sans any biases. I actually tend to like PCGamer's reviews. The review was pretty spot on, regardless of the end score. The game is fun, not perfect in any way, but geniuenly fun so far.

That's kind of how I try to describe to people. Sure, it's light on content. No, it doesn't do anything new or exceptional. It is fun and enjoyable to play.

And the same magazine that gave Dragon Age 2 a 94% lol. :D

LOL I got ripped. I put in my code and it said it was already in use or has expired.

Edit - LOL x 2... wasn't using CAPS.

Glad you got that figured out Servant :D

Anyone down to group up? Maybe we can get a [H] group going. Don't think there are many members playing for its own name thread so let's post here.

Rex Norseman

I was just in an instance with a guy at 3k Ego and another at 2.5k. Jesus fuck, that's like 24/7 grinding the shit out of everything. I think I've played a ton and I'm only 1.3k

Still don't know what to think of this game. There isn't a whole lot to do yet. Maybe it'll be more cool when I get better mods.

I am not sure how far you have gotten, but I felt the EXACT same way when I first played.

It opens up, not by much unfortunately, but there is more variety as you move along. The thing that makes it most involving to me is the gameplay - it is more skill based than stat based (if that makes sense). Meaning even if you have a crappy weapon you can still survive and take out a higher level enemy if you use good tactics, etc. If you haven't completed an Arkfall, do so immediately! They are loads of fun. Customizing could use way more work (in all areas), but still neat to play around with. Modding of weapons is confusing at first, but once you get the mod slot idea it is addicting. Again, it is the best representation of any one idea, yet a combination of several good ones. If Borderlands went MMO next month in exactly the same state as how 4-player mode is today, it would reign supreme over this game. I am still having fun, I love the story so far and the show is promising, so I will continue to play it.

The graphics were killing it for me so I added sweetfx. Night and day difference IMHO. There was some forum talk of being banned for the add-on, but many people have not had any problems whatsoever, myself included. I tried to make it a little more colorful and accentuate the 'cell-shaded' design the game has to try to make it more 'Borderlands-esque.' Still not the highest quality graphics out there, but still better.

I'm going to have to google this sweetfx, thanks.

I think Im only up to 55 ego (whatever it's called. your level?). So I'm not that far into the game yet.

Still don't know what to think of this game. There isn't a whole lot to do yet. Maybe it'll be more cool when I get better mods.

If you're hoping for loot to make the game more fun, you're going to be very disappointed. You get very slightly better loot as the game goes on, but you could also get that same loot at the beginning if you're lucky. If you don't like the gameplay in the first few hours, you wont like the gameplay for the rest of the game.

For a retard like me how exactly do I make SweetFX work, because this doesn't make much sense to me. I found a preset, and I have the files, but I don't know where exactly to put them and how to use the preset

Almost to 1600 Ego now. This protect the pilgrims from the Raiders in Mandera/Sausalito can blow me. It's fucking god awful. I've spent more time trying to find one of those events, fuck it.

There's a thread over @ Defiance forums that will walk you through the configuration of SweetFX,
all you really need to do is download/extract the contents of the zip file into your Defiance directory.
You can use the preset that's linked in post #21, however I found the colors to be too saturated IMO

At the moment I'm using NV Inspector with the settings shown below and it makes a HUGE difference in visual quality with minimal performance impact

anyone watch the show yet? lol, i've been apprehensive to give up an hour of my life to it yet.
