Defiance Discussion Thread

I'm not sure it mentions it in this guide, but you also get 10 Ego per full level of xp. You can also see what your current ego breakdown is http://www.defiance.com/en/my-ego/profile/player-hub/#!/totals

http://forums.defiance.com/showthre...-to-quot-Guide-For-when-your-in-the-Bay-area!

Level 5000 Explained!
We as players get Xp for a lot of things: Kills, Quests, Weapons and Pursuits(a combo of the rest)
And with that Xp will be EGO levels and EGO points for unlocking perks and powers

But here's the math:

So to start lets look just at the bonus EGO levels you get just for finishing all the pursuits

Pursuits:
Mount Tam – 65
Madera – 65
Marin – 70
Sausalito – 65
San Francisco – 65
Co-op Maps – 105
Arkfalls – 60
Enemy Groups – 30
Competitive Multiplayer – 180
EGO Evolution – 95
Combat – 180
Vehicles – 100
Reputation – 80
Social – 40

Total = 1200

Next come weapons...

Weapons:
13 weapon types
19 level-ups each (1-20)
4 EGO per levelup
= 76 ego per guntype X 13 weapon types

Total = 988

Finally we have the perks and powers section

Perks/Powers:
80 total perks that require 3 points to max (or 10 in game levels) = 2400
IE: You jump 10 in game levels for ever experience bar fill and receive 1 ego point for that

4 Powers requiring 5 points each to max =200

Total = 2600

Totals

Pursuits = 1200
Weapons = 988
Perks/Powers = 2600
Total = 4788

... And that leaves you with a little bit of fun and grinding left before hitting max level.

Thanks to 'Arkfalls' where I snagged most of this info from (find a link to their page below) but they included vehicles which DO NOT give you any XP upon leveling. Either way, seeing this made me feel justified in being a completionist and wanting to do all the pursuits now. lol

So, THAT seems to be why the level cap is 5000.

Nice breakdown. I'm at 275 or so. I like going at an easy pace - mostly because my schedule dictates it that way :p

Slippery was at like almost 3K...probably at 4K now!

I will add you Servant, or at least try as I get online.

so.. im at 430 ego -ish ,a week into playing..Ive been enjoying the game a lot..like the pop in do some stuff, log out...

I do wish the chat system were better..that seems kind of fubar..although at the same time.. I like not being bothered by random chat knucklhead_001

seems to really want all to use the voice system...which is..meh...

it is interesting..that its really isnt about ramping up gear..but ramping up technique with perks..

I've been playing off and on for the last two weeks, in that time I've only seen about 5 other "humans" playing. where are all the hoardes of people playing? the commercials etc. show hundreds of people playing...

I don't know what the arkfall was called, but there was at least 50 people there.

Any suggestions for a Blur-based build? What perks should I focus on?

I want to try something different for my XBOX character. I got a sniper/cloak build as my PC character, which works well. Lots of crits, shooting from a distance, and I switch to submachine gun if the enemies gets close -- more chance of crits.

But for Blur, not sure what to do. I picked shotgun, as I'm guessing most of the Blur stuff is up-close, because of all the melee stuff.

Anyone got experience with Blur?

Or maybe I should change to Overcharge and use LMGs (which seems to be a popular combo)?

Yeah, chat is VERY lacking. I always try to get something going - only like 1 or 2 people respond. I wish the voice chat was more like some source-based games. The Resistance and Liberation Mod is my favorite for proximity voice chat.

Arkfalls usually bring around 50+ whenever I am on - PST. I usually play nights about 2100 or later.

Your build sounds a lot like my main loadout. Sniper and SMG. I started out with cloak and now am using decoy. Uncloaking those around you with decoy is pretty fun in PvP :p

No experience with overcharge or blur yet. You are correct about though, blur is more for the up close and personal gameplay. I am sure overcharge is sweet, but would it really increase damage that much? I am placing around the top 3-5 in Arkfalls for damage with my smg/lmg, and cluster shot with decoy/cloak. I also have no trouble with most enemies. I would say it really depends on your style of play and what game mode you are playing. PvE or PvP - it makes a difference. PvP, like mentioned earlier, brings a lot of cloaking and shotguns. I like to try to counteract those.

I realize odditory never started that in-game name list on his first post...would anyone else like to group up?

anyone want to try and kill dekuso in under 5min for goal? lmk

name is madic in game.

I am down...It just sucks we cant add each other unless we are both online at the same time.

the reality is that this is/was made primarily for the console market. it's exactly what i thought it would be which is why i don't own it.

I am the first to admit that the game really suffers from consolitis, but I am having fun. Frankly, in my opinion the random port quirks do not subtract from the overall gaming experience and gameplay.

Yeah, it's pretty stupid. I hope they change that.

I'll be on around 430pm pacific time. What's your in game name?

Agreed. I'm enjoying the hell out of this game, which I didn't think would happen. We got to a boss fight in a cooop map and the boss never showed up, lol. So we were all just running around waiting for him to show. It pissed me off because I wasted all of my time to get to him, but it doesn't prevent me from playing the game any less in the future.

I've been playing this game since launch and i don't know what that EGO stuff is. Just been shooting stuff and driving around hasn't been bored always fun.

How do you do the TV episode missions?

Also, will my side missions go away after I finish the main mission?

Thinking of picking this up tomorrow. Quick question: I actually see used copies for sale, is there something I'm not understanding on the console versions? Is there no CD keys? Or are companies trying to make a few bucks?

Also.. Can a controller be used on the PC version? I just had my second surgery and am stuck at home bored out of my mind but would need to use a controller due to my arm being unusable.

Thanks!

There is a CD key, so I don't know why used copies are being sold.

You can pick it up on ebay for $30. That's where I got mine.

TV Episode missions have been taken out to sort of follow the seasons. They can be found (videos) on youtube if your curious. There has actually been a lot of backlash on the decision to take out the episode missions so Trion is actually thinking of having them return once the TV season is over.

Yeah try to find it online for about 30. I bought the season pass for around 23 (Ebay and Greenmangaming). All in all, the game+expansions cost me about the current retail price.

Yes, a controller can be used. People say it actually works well...imagine that lol.

Glad you guys are still having fun and are able to group up. I usually get on too late, sorry.

I have an extra physical copy of the game I was saving for a buddy, deal fell through. If you would like it, it's yours for $30. Just PM me.

Good group last night guys!

Yeah it was. Unfortunately I was not in the group it seemed. I couldn't type or speak...was frustrating but still had fun.

i think I heard you at the beginning but only that Mungo dude after that. I might be on later tonight. Going to go see Pain and Gain with my gf and some friends first.

Don't know if you guys read the Defiance community page, but they made a list of things they'd like to add to the game, based on player feedback.

Some of the things on the list:

  • player storage
  • clan storage
  • Vehicle-based PVP
  • PVP tournaments (and spectator mode)
  • open-world bosses
  • group raids - 4/8/16 player instances
  • auction house
  • scalable UI (for PC and Console)

There are a lot more on in the blog post here:

I'd say not worth the retail price. Got it for 28$, provided me with couple of nights of good entertainment, however the quests are extremely boring, and gunplay, while addicting, is still mediocre. Don't get me wrong, if you like modding your guns for higher stats, you might get addicted, but it only lasts that long

This would be awesome and would def keep me interested.

I'm at 506 ego now and have well over 30 hours into the game. Even if I were to quit now, I'd say I got my moneys worth since I only paid $30 for it. But I'm still enjoying it and just got to San Fran for the main story.

I just beat the final boss last night my EGO is 1016, now just have to level up the rest of my skills and complete some goals now.

So I finally bought the game. I am liking it so far, but pretty lost on a few things and the menu system is kind of weird. I have a nearly full inventory, but not sure what to do with it all. Lots of green mods that I can't seem to use. Is there a personal bank in this game at some point?

no banking system, YET.

Sell all your weapons/mods you're not going to use.

You won't start using mods until a little later really.

I would keep anything purple/orange sell or scrap salavage anything ur not using once you get a higher EGO you can do many missions and not have to worry.
