Dead Island 2

If the game pulls in alot of players for a few days might pick it up but Back 4 Blood didn't end well.

I don't think you have to have the EGS launcher installed to play the game, but it does require an EGS account for multiplayer, from what it sounds like, because it uses EGS servers.
It's also getting review bombed on Steam because of it. Seems like a solid game though.

People don't want Epic Online Services installed on their PC, that is what the issue is.

Yeah that sucks, but no different that Origin or Uplay being required for your Steam games.
The difference is it's Epic. Just pointing it out. I don't have an issue with it, personally, as long as I don't need an Epic account to play the game.

Not sure if I'm not leveling up correctly (I am utilizing the cards), but I got to the boss fight at the movie studio and the regular zombies are feeling more and more tedious to kill. I'm level 9, but many of my weapons seem to be around level 4; is that the problem? Do I need to be trashing my weapons and picking up new weapons as I go? Seems too expensive to pay to level up weapons. I aim for their heads or limbs and try to stomp them when that tiny stomp window appears. They all feel like bullet sponges at this point.

Edit: Oh yeah, the respawning right inside a small area you've just cleared. wut

Yes! Levelling your weapons is vital!

They should always be at your level. But only level one… or possibly two. It’s expensive. Just choose your best weapon and level that one. This should be a priority.

Confirmed dumbass here. A majority of my weapons were level 4 while me and the zombies were level 9/8. Took me like 10-20 hits to kill zombies. Just picture some idiot swinging a golf club a million times and barely making a dent.

Just getting around to playing DI2 for the first time. Hearing it's maybe not as long as the original, but the zombie models and details with the gore are pretty damn good. Same janky story, but I don't care, it's good enough and with the sale on this, for now i'm satisfied with purchase.

The game is 55% off at Fanatical for the next 12 hours, with prices being slightly cheaper than buying on Steam itself during the initial discount:

Standard: $59.99 > $29.99 $26.99
Deluxe: $64.99 > $34.99 $29.24
Gold: $79.99 > $39.99 $35.99

The code "OMEN10" might work on it too for an extra 10% off there. I'm tempted, but have other games to play still.

CDKeys has some deals as well:

Standard - $22.69
Deluxe - $25.19
Gold - $31.49

Same janky story…
I thought that the story, the tone of which was modelled on that of a B sci-fi comedic film’s, worked really well, considering you begin the game near the Hollywood hills and that you start out in the lavish home of a famous B level actress. I knew I was going to love this game when I explored the influencer’s house across the street. The game just grew on me as I played it.

I picked this up during the big sale on it, pretty good so far. Had some weird instances where it had some really bad hitching, but that seems to be mostly gone.

Yup now in by about 10 hours, the actual story is not as bad as I once thought. I'm playing as Ryan, not too crazy about his character, but story has gotten better!

Update, finished DI2. Enjoyed this more than I thought I was going to. For $25 bucks price range I'd definately recommend. Finished in about 45 hours but appears I have a ton of side missions left and don't mind continuing, or maybe changing to another character. I haven't seen too many praises on the expansion DLC, so waiting until those go on sales as well. I have an idea, why not an expansion on an actual island? Just an idea.

The gore system, as others have said, was impressive. Story not the greatest, but I have no issue overall with the whole presentation. Nice work.

I guess their doing a NG+ for this as well.

"In fact, Patch 6’s New Game Plus mode gives fans a whole bunch of reasons to head back onto the gore-soaked streets of Hell-A. As with most NG+ modes, you can start the game again with your favourite slayer, equipped with all the skills, abilities and weapons you built up during your first run. But New Game Plus isn’t taking any prisoners. It’s ready to mix up enemy encounters and make damn sure that even skilled DI2 vets face a serious challenge.

Once players arrive in Bel Air – New Game Plus skips the campaign’s prologue – they’re going to find the action very different. They’ll encounter familiar zombies in new locations, and some tougher zombies where they wouldn’t previously expect them. Even the basic walkers have had their health upgraded along with their damage, while Apex Zombie variants aren’t going to wait for their turn in the spotlight.
‘Before you had to wait until the end of the game to start seeing mutators or anything like that’
says Associate Lead Level Designer, James Gamlin.
‘In New Game Plus, they’ll be appearing very early on.’

And then there are the new Revenants. These killer new takes on your favourite Apex Zombies don’t just have a dark new look, but new behaviours and tweaked capabilities that make them deliberately hard to slay.
‘This combined with the changes from New Game Plus are going to push the challenge all the way up to 11’
says Donks. You don’t need to kill them all, adds Gamlin, though you’ll miss out on some great rewards.
‘We don’t want them to be roadblocks and we didn’t want to add huge difficulty spikes. But if players want that challenge, thay’ll find it.’

Don’t even think about power-levelling and cheesing through the action, either. New Game Plus is designed to more closely scale the zombie threat against your slayer’s current level, and every big boss zombie is guaranteed to be a higher level.

Luckily, players come in with a few advantages. Not only can they bring in their existing skill cards and capabilities, but they’ll have more slots to fill in every category. This allows for builds players couldn’t create before, where they can explore new tactics and killer skill and weapon combos. Meanwhile, every weapon that drops in New Game Plus will be more powerful than those in the main game, with more fixed-rarity weapons to collect and wield. The team hopes this will encourage players to make the most of weapons that they might previously have left behind."

Was cheaper in the past, though this includes all of the cosmetic DLC which I assume most won't care for. I assume it will be back on sale with a larger discount in the coming weeks.

There is a cooldown timer for discounts on Steam. I think the only exception is the big Steam-wide seasonal sales.

While I appreciate the free NG+ and few other DLC items, not sure it's enough to keep me going. Playing through another time with NG+, but honestly it ain't holding my attention as much as I thought it would.

Have not tried Neighborhood watch yet, but haven't yet heard great things.

Just started playing this. It is not that bad. For a free game I am having some fun.

Not really free then, unless you got a free month or something which I currently do have. I assume it does not include DLC though.
No clue, only thing that I could come up with. 🤷‍♂️
Plus I'm about to start the game myself tomorrow since I just finished the first one and completed Riptide tonight (both Definitive Editions).

So I am about 11 main missions in and it is an OK game. Got my first gun so things are looking up a bit. Up until now it almost felt like I was on a tutorial. There seems to be a total of 24 missions so this is about 40% done of main story. Plus there are sides but honestly, I did 2-3 sides and it is all the same. There isn’t much to it.

Just repetition of zombies etc. Yes that is every game but the story is also whatever right now and I just don’t feel connected to the game. I don’t know how skills work. Dodge or block is practically useless. I keep using med kits and eating protein bars while running around trying to dodge zombies. Getting old fast.

Also don’t feel like hunting collectibles etc. as it is mostly not fun. Safe codes, some keys etc. all a bit of a drag. Performance is fine so that’s positive. But gameplay is where I feel Dying Light 2 was much better. P.S. I am not sure but does this guy have a mega ability that recharges and you can unleash it? Because I seem to have forgotten about how to use it lol. But yeah, I will keep playing and finish it but for now this is like a 5 or 6/10.

I need to circle back on this game. It did capture my attention as much as the original, for some reason. It's a beautiful looking game, but it feels more on rails than the original. If you stray off path you can be encountering zombies you have no chance against, which seems odd when part of the game play is to explore looking for collectibles, notes/lore, etc.

At some point you gain the Fury ability in the game, where you build up fury points and then can unleash it with G button if using keyboard. https://www.gamerguides.com/dead-is...gameplay/fury-mode-explained-in-dead-island-2

Ok I don’t have fury ability but am on mission 14. I think they wanted people to play the story and then do the sandbox crap. I am ok with that as the game world is not enticing to me and now I go to same places and all the bosses are now regular zombies but I am still sporting my OG kick in the nuts and some block/dodge that doesn’t do shit.

Anyways, now I am just rushing through. Collectibles are so underwhelming that using fuses to open blocked ways leads to a weapon that goes useless once you get the next level up. It’s just a waste of time at this point.

Gotta finish the story and move on.

Edit: got the ability. It is pretty meh like the game. Almost 5-6 missions left and then I am done. Glad I didn’t pay for it because that would’ve sucked.

Because I want to play a shooter and all I have in my backlog are this and atomic heart, both of which have this problem of adding melee nonsense to the experience. Anyways, I am almost done and after that will go on to some other mediocre game as I am intimidated by BG3 which seems like a good game to play. 👀

This game is half melee half shooter. If you're looking for a pure shooter this is not it, though later in the game you can use firearms more. But the melee is fun, and using the traps and whatnot.
