Crysis 2 demo

Downloading now, but reading comments it doesn't seem promising. Would be a shame if this was another disappointment so soon after DAO2 demo.

Lol@ people cancelling preorders because of Crysis multiplayer. Graphics are obviously dumbed down for this crap and crysis is only fun in singleplayer.

Not sure what other people are seeing, have it running at 5760x1080 Hardcore 2D and 3D and it looks pretty damn good.

Crytek has been saying this is going to be a great MP experience.. They are trying to sell it as both SP and MP.

Like the game isn't horrible, but it just seems like a huge step back, and completely below what most PC gamers were expecting. Everyone was worried it would be equivalent to CoD/Halo and it seems to be the case.

People spend money on their computers/console setups and when a game they anticipate goes in a completely different direction it can be disappointing. Doesn't seem unreasonable.

All I'll say is enjoy what you've got while it's there. A majority of the PC community bitched when Crysis was released. It doesn't run on my computer... it's poorly coded... etc. People complaining about stupid things for a game clearly designed for the PC. Well Crytek learned their lesson. Quite frankly, if I were a game developer I don't know if I'd want to work on PC-based games either. The PC community as a whole is very ungrateful, and seems to be only good at looking at the negative side, and not the positive side. And then when a legitimate gripe comes along, like auto-aim in a MP shooter, it holds less weight because people have already complained about every other thing under the sun.

Why would Crytek care about the all the bitching when the games still sold well? Fact is, original Crysis sold in excess of 3 million units... that's more than many AAA console titles sell on combined platforms...

If Crysis 2 isn't embraced by consoles gamers, and they shun the PC crowd, it'll be a total flop. Seems like a big risk to me. They should've remained on PC. Then again, perhaps Crytek wants to pull an Epic and just make money off licensing their engine.

Ok did anyone really expect an amazing multiplayer when there are consoles involved? That just means cod game style. I mean cancel your preorders, I don't give a shit since you base it all on MP. I will wait till it comes out and there are reviews or people say what they think of the single player.

I actually wouldn't mind thinking of Crytek as an engine licensing company but I just can't think of any decent games that have licensed CryEngine2. I looked it up to confirm it, and it is being used by a few games, but I've never heard of any of them other then Crysis and Warhead.

If they were to focus completely on creating engines with technical advances and efficient dev tools it would be great for the industry, but I thought that was what CryEngine2 was, and apparently it didn't turn out that way. Why haven't we seen more use of their engine?

CE2 wasn't really scalable to lesser platforms, like consoles. CE3 changes that, there's already a few devs that have hopped on as licensees.

I personally see a few different ways of perceiving the situation:

- They touted MP as a big selling point, so they should put more into it if they're going to bother adding MP to the game, as any dev should, especially due to the "$60-price-point-for-PC-games-becoming-the-new-standard" direction the industry seems to be moving into.

- They stated from the beginning that, what ever consoles could not handle, would not be implemented in to the PC version of the game, which I think is lazy bullshit and and outright "fuck you" to PC gamers even making such a statement. Of course, that's they're prerogative, I suppose.

- For those who remember the above statement being made by Crytek, what the hell did you expect from the PC version?

- ("Devil's Advocate") While I feel the same as most, that I always want some type of good MP in most games, there IS a single player element here, people. So, if it's good, then it's good, so enjoy the game for what is has to offer with it's single player campaign. People do seem to focus far too much on MP, though in this case, since Crytek won't shut their mouths about it, I can see why.

Bottom line: if the single player campaign is great, and not some "six-to-eight hour meh-fest", then it might be worth the money and time to play, regardless of the MP. But, if it's single player campaign is mediocre, and also lacking in the MP aspect, then hell no.

Especially not for $60...

...which they're being really sneaky about, because all I can find for PC is the "Collector's Edition", which is making it too obvious that they're doing just to have a reason to ratchet-up the price. Anyone else notice this?

I cant find a "standard" version for PC anywhere... not GameStop or Amazon... and offering only a "Collector's Edition" for PC gamers, just to make it seem like you're getting more so they can charge $60, is bullshit.

Honestly, I don't give a shit how good the SP or MP is, I wont pay $60, for Crysis 2, anyway. First-person shooters don't have THAT much to offer in general, with the exception of something like Battlefield, to warrant a $60 price tag. Not enough gameplay or re-playability.

Crytek has yet to make a good single player experience. Both Far Cry and Crysis had significant problems later in the game that nearly ruined the good elements of them. People say Warhead was better, but I could never bring myself to finish it.

After reading these comments no wonder Crytek isn't all that enthused about the PC. But I'd bet the farm that for every negative comment here the game will be pirated a bazillion times. I do wish Crytek had released a single player demo, I'm not much into multiplayer but if it's just more of the same of Crysis & Crysis Warhead in single player I'll have no problem buying it.

Crytek (or rather is CEO) is on crack. They not only said that for every one copy of Crysis bought 20 were pirated and then made the insinuation that if it were not for piracy every single one of them would have been a sale. The game sold over three million copies. If Crytek isn't happy with that after barely paying any money for the game they can go fuck off.

Telling someone to fuck off goes both ways, looks like Crytek decided to give PC gamers the finger as well. And it went well beyond Crytek. What happened with Crysis was the end of high-end PC exclusives.

Sure Crytek's CEO may have gone too far but obviously EVERY game developer took note of what happened with Crysis and the result was no more big PC exclusives. You can't blame all of that on Crytek.

Over three million units sold should bolster developers that want to take the risk. Crytek and Epic's comments have painted the PC market to be something its not. They have scared off investors, the real people who own and control big publishers. I don't entirely blame Crytek. If they believe they can make more money by being multiplatform thats fine. My problem with them is their comments and attitude. When Crysis 2 leaked out instead of asking people not to download it and pleading their case about it being an early run their first statement put all the blame on pirates. I treat Crytek the same way I do Epic because they have earned my ire due to their actions and attitude, not for the games themselves.

Except nothing happened with Crysis except SUCCESS. Crysis alone was over 3 million sales not counting Warhead which was supposedly around 1.5 million on its own. Then FarCry clocked in at around 2.5 million apparently.

How well can you possibly hope to sell? Crysis was literally one of the best selling titles to ever grace the PC. It sold more than a huge majority of games can ever hope to match.

I'm with you, and that's the problem: they've yet to really make a good single player experience, though admittedly, Warhead was far better than the first Crysis, and I enjoyed it the first time through.

^This... was part of my whole point.

Again, even their attitude of "if it wont run well on consoles, we wont be putting it in the PC version", clearly stated by Crytek from the beginning, is truly saying, "fuck PC gamers, you get only what we can make work on consoles", which I see as doing nothing more than shooting themselves in the foot.

What PC gamer would want to support a company with a such an attitude, who makes such blatant statements?

And, again, the fact that they're seeming to only be releasing a "Special/Collector's Edition" for PC priced at $60, and not a version for $50 that's not "special", proves they're just gouging PC gamers for cash. It's bullshit.

Personally, I wont support such a company, despite the fact that I'm literally desperate for some new games right now. So, it's waiting for DNF, Brink, Dungeon Siege III and at the end of the year, BF3, Rage and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

At this point, even regardless of how well the single player campaign of Crysis 2 turns out, I simply wont support a company with such attitudes as they've blatantly displayed, and their "tactics" of only releasing a "Special/Collector's Edition" of the PC version just to rake in more cash only adds to the sour taste they leave in my mouth.

No matter how well it turns out, there's no way a $60 price tag is warranted for a game such as Crysis 2 (not even $50, given it's nothing innovative nor offering anything spectacular in terms of visuals or gameplay), never mind from a company who basically tells the PC gaming community to "suck it", every chance they get.

They can rant-and-rave about piracy all they want, which is indeed a problem I take seriously myself, but in that case, they might as well just keep their mouths shut regarding PC gaming and either not release it for PC at all, or just shut the hell up and release it at a more reasonable price and just port it over in with "port-it-and-forget-it" mentality, and leave their bullshit attitudes at the door.

3 million units for one of the most technically sophisticated games ever created isn't what I would call a resounding sucess, not a failure by any means but the problem Crytek had is that apparently the game was pirated more than purchased. THAT'S what turned off developers. I'm not saying that it was at the level that Crytek said and I certainly don't believe that every pirated copy would have been a sale but there's no way a developer can look at Crysis and get the warm fuzzies about the PC, I certainly don't and I LOVE the PC as a gaming platform and have ZERO intrest in console platforms.

And attitudes and perceptions once again go both ways. If I were a Crytek developer and had read these comments about the demo I'd tell PC gamers to fuck off as well. There's VERY little love coming from PC gamers these days, they seemed to be pissed off at everything, at least the ones around here.

Crytek barely had to spend any of their own money on the game and last I heard the game itself was only something like $20-30 million dollars to develop. Intel, EA, Microsoft, and Nvidia were all heavily pushing Crysis and you can believe they were also heavily tossing cash at Crytek. 3 million units is a huge success on any platform, especially the PC. PC titles don't sell the kind of units you see on consoles and Crytek was dumb to expect it. Even at two million units EA was calling it successful and saying it exceeded expectations. I don't know what unrealistic expectations Crytek had but those expectations were their fault, not the fault of the community. It doesn't help that their marketing for the game pretty much solely consisted of pushing it as the most advanced game ever that wouldn't even run at full potential on modern systems of the time. Crytek's own PR scared a lot of gamers away from trying to and created the "Crysis needs a powerful computer to even run" myth that it still has to this day. That was all their fault. Also their fault was the bad MP and the lackluster single-player experience. They took everything wrong with Far Cry and put it into Crysis. There was no compelling reason to play beyond that initial play through and the MP didn't offer anything worth bothering with, especially as Crytek ignored problems with cheater. Then oh yes there was that empty promise they made about being able to enable even higher settings on the game. Something they said prior to the game's release and then said it was something they wanted to do before Warhead came out. They also completely abandoned Crysis after the release of Warhead despite it still needing a lot of work (like the aforementioned issue with cheaters online). Crysis probably shouldn't even have sold as well as it did, but it did sell well and Crytek rewards the people who bought it with bitching and moaning and BS statements.

The problem once again is that it was pirated more than it sold. Maybe Crytek overstated the pirating issue but there's no way that a developer and look at that and say "Hurray!".

The Collector Edition started with games like Bad Company 2 I believe, no matter what copy I bought, its always a Limited Edition on top of it..

Then follow by Dragon Age, they said they will upgrade the game to Signature Edition, which is still 60 dollar bullshit trying to jack up the price with pretty name on the boxes...

Hell, Crysis 1 Collector Edition is one of finest out there. Art Booklet, SteelBox(Except US Version), soundtrack disc, notebook...etc..
In Asia, Dragon Age Origin collector Edition is a freaking Wooden Box set..
and what happen to Dragon Age 2 "Signature Edition" now...a plastic box with 2 pages manual and a disc... extra stuff is build-in DLC

It seems like EA is pulling some shit out here for its marketing..
At the same time CryTek trying to milk more money on console gamers and minimize spending.

That is business right there..

Does it means anything?

NO obviously... There are tons of game getting pirate out there, do they give a fuck when they still makes tons of money?

It's marketing bullshit right there... BUSINESS means BUSINESS....

Hope it fails for consoles. My co-worker is a console only fanboy and likes COD shit or w/e, asked him today if he was going to get Crysis 2.

He replied, Time Crisis 2?

I said, no, Crysis 2.

Said he had never heard of it.

What game isn't? Even on consoles these days. The game sold well despite rampant piracy, thats the entire point.

The game runs surprisingly smooth on my 2yr old gaming laptop (Nvidia 9800m GTS). That said, the gameplay is just as appealing as Crysis 1, which isn't that great. Super suits are cool, but not so cool when everyone has them.

so you want no competition in a game. Whats the point if you are superman killing all the bad guys who cant compete, lol.

DLC is the biggest middle-finger to gamers ever. Console devs have taken the idea of "mods" and shit from PC games and added a price-tag.

The first and last console game i ever bought was Assasin's Creed 2. They wanted me to buy the end of my game... wait i just bought the game???

the greed of devs makes me sad :(

It pissed me off seeing all of the hate towards Crysis because of its requirements to run maxed out and because the single player just didn't do it for some people. I think PC gamers are too critical, or at least they were back before 2008. I really can't blame people for being upset these days though with how heavily consoles influence PC games in ways we don't like.

You really can't blame people for being pissed that autoaim was included in the PC multiplayer demo. That alone makes the demo worth considering a failure for most people. It is still possible that they will remove it for the full version, and that they will add in video options, and the single player may still be great, so anyone claiming otherwise is just being an ass. If you say PC gamers are overreacting for calling the demo a failure though, I think you're overreacting in your analysis,

I enjoyed Crysis Wars and was hoping for at least some elements of that to make it into Crysis 2. I'll wait til the final version to pass judgement but so far I'm a bit disappointed with what they've shown gameplay wise in the demo.

the Xbox multiplayer was horrible, hope it's been improved. I know many console gamers gave up on this game because their multiplayer demo was so buggy and un-fun.

The problem with everybody having supersuits is that everybody has tons of armor and shields. It takes a ton of fire to bring someone down. I have the feeling the market is more steered towards the CoD model where people die much faster which is more instantaneously rewarding and more realistic for others.

This is closer to an oldschool arena multiplayer like unreal perhaps.

I hope the scale of the maps can be large. We've seen what the Crysis 1 engine can do. They could have made an amazing Battlefield type game with huge maps and all the vehicles they had in Crysis 1. Crysis 2 looks like tiny console style run and gun maps.

It's a demo, probably slapped together as I would think that auto-aim wouldn't be in the RTM, it doesn't work with KBM anyway.

My point is that if PC gamers are going to call everything crap and pirate everything to oblivion that PC gamers are sealing their own fate.

Aim assistance does work with keyboard and mouse. It's in the beta as well for single player and multiplayer (which hackers found a way to play all the full multiplayer maps on their own hamachi servers a month ago).

You're right though, PC gamers are sealing their own fate.

Well, its been confirmed that Crysis 2 will release on the PC platform as DX9 only. At a later date they will patch it to DX11. Seriously Crytek?!? With this and all the other obvious "FU PC gamers" things that are in the demo, you can take your steaming pile of nano-manure and cram it. There is no way in hell I'm buying your craptacular console-ported game.

Did I read this right? as far as I can remeber the oldest collectors edition game I have is zelda for the nes

Sorry worded wrong...

What I mean is there is no standard edition, only collector edition you can purchase..

I would think demos are fairly major pieces of marketing for a project, and we all know EA loves to budget for marketing. We do agree that it is just a demo though, and things can be changed. We also agree that PC gamers are far too quick to complain, and it hurts the industry. I just don't think its fair to criticize PC gamers for complaining about auto-aim being in the demo.

This game runs great on my machine but the matter of the fact is, every a-hole playing has not turned auto aim off. Trying to get a scope accessory is so fuking retarded. The kill replay is annoying as hell. I never finished playing warhead because it was so boring. This will be no different.

Can't make an account. Says email is in use. Hit forgot password and it says no such email. All aboard the failboat.

*Sigh* I'm willing to give the release version a chance, but if this is how they want to do it, then I may just cancel my preorder.

They said they will add it in a future patch, but how do you add tesselation/other features in a patch?
