CDW Outlet Finds

I haven't made a return or warranty claim with CDW or for items purchased from them that I can recall; however, I had the same questions regarding the warranty on the drives. It appeared that they had copied and pasted the warranty period from the retail page, as you suggested. I had nothing better to do with a couple hours of my life, so I called their customer service center, waited on hold a while, though not that long, then asked their rep about the warranty for the Outlet listing and he said it was the standard 5-year warranty from the date of manufacture with WD. He could have been lying and it has been a long time since I processed a warranty claim with WD, but it seems worth it. When the drive comes in, I'll check it with PartedMagic or WD Data LifeGuard. As long as it passes the conveyance test and it doesn't show tens of thousands of power-on hours, I'm confident it won't be any more risky than dealing with open box items on Newegg.

Thanks for that. Very good info to know, and I appreciate you giving up your time for the cause ;). From what you heard, it seems its very like any other secondary market (Ebay etc.) used purchase when there's remaining warranty. The only unknown is how much warranty is left. On the plus side, most of the drives they sell at the outlet are Enterprise, so they have long(er) warranties and are made to take heavier use.

I've been buying from CDW, including the outlet, on and off for 25+ years, and never had an issue with the occasional return, so I've got no worries there. I'd just never bought anything "used". I buy a lot on Ebay though, so I suppose its no different, maybe even better since the return policy at CDW is more consistent.

Thanks again.

If you're looking for a Chromebook, I was seeing a bunch of Lenovo Chromebook 14e available for $276 in used - like new. Here's one. 14" 1080p touchscreen, A4-9120C, 4G ram, 32G eMMC. Replacing my mother-in-law's HP chromebook that has decided it doesn't want to turn on; she's remote and not technical enough to undo the case, unplug the battery and plug it back in, which is all it needs *sigh*. Not a lot of Chromebooks in stock anywhere, so this is probably useful for someone. A handful of other Chromebooks too.

Damn....Nice find. Placed an order on the 3090, expect it to be canceled considering the delivery date is listed before the launch of the 3090. Seems the dates allign with the 3080, probably a mistake. Placed an order though, hope it goes through, would be a steal at that price.

I'm almost 100% sure it's been sold. When you see 'Availability' listed as anything other than 'Available: NOW' ie it currently says 'Available: 4-6 days' then it's likely sold out and the online system is still updating.

That's what I have observed, at least.

That's possible, for their site listing. But considering the 3080's official release date is the 17th, and the 3090 is the 24th. Not sure to be honest, considering their ship dates the 3090 atm are still before the 24th. Time will tell, hope they do ship me one at that price. Would be one happy cookie if they do.

This was posted on Reddit and SD, and was live for a day and a half. CDW doesn't go out of stock, they will accept every order that gets placed. Someone probably came in Monday morning to thousands of orders. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if CDW took in more orders for this SKU than have even been manufactured. Now factor in that CDW drop ships much of its products and you literally have CDW with thousands of orders to send over to PNY for ~$1,000 under MSRP? Seriously, you had a better chance of waking up this morning and shitting a solid gold bar than you did of getting your order fulfilled.

Since my order was cancelled, I have a chance to shit out a gold bar each morning?

Yeah - I tried it when it hit this thread and now my order just says " You cannot purchase this product online because it is discontinued or otherwise unavailable. Please contact your account manager for details. " - Not an outright cancellation notice, but I presume one is coming.

Picked up a WD Gold 4TB drive for $100 out the door. According to the customer service rep it still has the full 5 year manufacturer warranty, so seems worth the gamble.
Yep, this is the drive I needed. :( Seems like it's nearly impossible to get a 4TB drive at the prices they used to list for now. :( I've been trying to get 4x of these drives for over a year now.

I regularly check CDW Outlet for drives, and am starting to see almost all the recent listings having condition of some variation of "Used" (i.e. "Used-Like New"), and seeing very few as "New" anymore.

They define Used-Like New as having passed testing but may have blemishes. When it comes to a drive, I could see how it could look pristine, pass a test, and still be totally thrashed internally, with thousands or power-on hours and/or very little life remaining in the case of an SSD.

I'm also noticing no mention of Warranty on these used item listings, only the 30 day return policy. Am I missing something, or is this essentially the same as buying used on Ebay, with no real guarantee of condition (other than that it worked during testing and doesn't have visual dents) and a very limited return window?

Edit: so for some items, I see that they do cut and paste the specifications from the retail page, which often list warranty periods (i.e. 5 year limited warranty), but since these are used, as opposed to new, there's no way to know how much warranty is left without purchasing? And for items with no warranty mentioned, I guess its just the 30 day return window?
afaik, all the items in the outlet are considered new by the manufacturer even though they may indicate them as 'used'. I don't think any of the items are truly 'used' items like ebay and should have full factory warranties.

I've been buying drives even before this thread existed and actually have had to process 2x warranties so far (maybe a 3rd as an HGST from 2017 seems like it's acting funny), and the warranty process has been the same as for a new drive. Without that warranty, I wouldn't actually be buying outlet drives as the ebay ones are much cheaper.

I think I purchased a few drives that indicated they were used and they were just the normal open box lightly used drives. I think the product rating was something CDW started to keep people from getting shocked expecting something bnib when it's not.

Chromebooks will get much, much cheaper than that. I know I've seen them sub $100 before and even $79 and I thought I saw $59 once upon a time.

Someone tried this a while back and it was a pricing error and was cancelled.

This is correct. Unless it is showing 'in stock', it's gone. And even if it shows in stock and someone else's order is in front of you, you're still not going to get it. This is why I recommend phone orders where they can allocate the stock right there on the call.

If you’re in the market for a mini pc, they’ve got a lot of the NUC8i7INH model. Last week they were at $550 or so and now they’ve started dropping, currently at $460.

https://m.cdw.com/search/?outlet=1&key=nuc8 &cm_sp=cdwoutlet-_-search-_-search+all

these are the ones with i7-8565u, 8gb of Non-upgradable ram and a 2gb Radeon 540x onboard.

imo at current prices they’re not worth it, and anything with 8gb non-upgradable is a hard sell to me anyways, but if the prices drop the way they usually do you might be able to scoop one up for cheap. So maybe put it on your radar if you think you might be interested.

(I ordered the i3 one that was listed at $160, couldn’t pass that up).

There are several PNY GeForce GTX 1660 Blower - graphics card - GF GTX 1660 - 6 GB for sale. Looks like they're starting them at $222.99 then dropping them to $188.99.

GPU prices being awful now, these might help someone with a mid range gaming to start until some of the new cards come in stock or prices improve early next year (hopefully).

Only pasting a few, there are more out there, 6 or more

Big caveat: these are not recommended if you are a Windows user, the driver support for the GPU is terrible. Intel abandoned it and it seems AMD did as well. Users have been trying to find workarounds since WDDM 2.7 became a thing in Win10's v2004 update.

A pair of barebones Hades Canyon NUCs - NUC8i7HVK - currently at $579.99.

These are the top-end ones and I seem to recall reading that they can get pretty loud/hot under load. But the price is getting to be pretty nice.... if you're not going to run Windows.

If you're running Linux the graphics have been supported since Kernel 4.18 (Ubuntu 18.10 if that's your flavor). I haven't run one myself but in theory that should make it a pretty nice uSFF linux gaming box (such things do exist), although it's still a very niche piece of hardware so, big warning flags regardless.

Personally, if they dropped to about $300 I'd pick one up, out of curiosity, but I'm pretty happy with my little Ryzen APU setup right now and am just sitting on it until new APUs with at least Zen3 / RDNA2 are available. I consdered the Zen2/Vega ones but the gaming performance on them appears to be mostly unchanged from my 2400g.

Nice finds guys! (y)

I haven't been looking at the outlet the way I have in the past because there's been a lot going on for me as of lately (even more than before :(), but I did find some deals like these...

Fortigate 50e router for $170--these are enterprise grade routers that usually go for double this. Upgrade from your consumer one to enterprise quality (use your old one for wireless as an ap):
https://www.cdw.com/product/fortinet-fortigate-50e-security-appliance/6318775?pfm=srh
https://www.cdw.com/product/fortinet-fortigate-50e-security-appliance/6319976?pfm=srh

Fortigate 80e with UTM and 1yr 8x5 support for $326--usually double this if not triple. Again a very powerful enterprise grade router:
https://www.cdw.com/product/fortine...-forticare-and-fortiguard-utm/6326987?pfm=srh

These Fortigates also have dual wan. So if you ever wanted to go in that direction, these are great for that as well. (y)

Got a real enterprise and need a real piece of equipment? Check out this Sonicawall NSA 5650 for $3723--usually $14000+. You can't even find them on ebay for this price:
https://www.cdw.com/product/sonicwall-nsa-5650-security-appliance/6314458?pfm=srh

HP Color Laser printer M653dn for $579--usually $1800 anywhere:
https://www.cdw.com/product/hp-color-laserjet-enterprise-m653dn-printer-color-laser/6291349?pfm=srh

HP 4500fn1 network scanner for $267--usually $700 anywhere you look. We actually use the bigger brother of this unit, the 8500fn1 and it is a brilliant piece of equipment to get documents scanned in a hurry. We have ours set up with presets for what the source documents are and they simply scan to pdf and save on our file server (any windows share or ftp server). It's so simple my 75+ year old dad was doing it. And it can hammer through a huge workload too. I used our 8500fn1 and Brother ads-3600w last night to crush an 8in stack of paper (about 1500 sheets) in less than 2hrs at 600dpi full color. This is the last scanner you'll ever need for document conversion (unless you outgrow it):

Found some more stuff too:

Viewsonic 20" 1080p monitor for $29--usually selling for about $80 elsewhere:
https://www.cdw.com/product/viewsonic-va2055sa-20-led-backlit-lcd-black/6301277?pfm=srh

Acer 21.5" 1080 monitor for $40--usually around $100 elsewhere (the others will drop to $40 eventually):
https://www.cdw.com/search/?key=UM.WV6AA.B01&outlet=1&sortby=priceasc&maxrecords=72

HP portable 1080p 14" monitor for $69--usually double that:

Since I just started at a place thats a Fortinet shop, that 80E is a great way for me to learn on the fly without blowing shit up.
1/2 the price of Amazon for the hardware only, the fact you get a year of Fortiguard with it, for that, is stupid, its a better deal than the 50e.

Yep, I hope you were able to take advantage of it. The 50e is now a paltry $146, and I believe this is the bottom on them.

A stupid deal indeed for an enterprise grade, ipsec vpn capable multi-wan router. You can get one of these as a router upgrade and take your old consumer router and use it as a dedicated ap.

Especially when I just bought a color version of this from the outlet for under $140 shipped, normally $280 without shipping. (y)

This is my first Xerox printer, and I really like the Xerox build quality compared to the HP and Brother lineups. You can tell the Xerox heritage in something as simple as the paper tray, which has almost no flex unlike other brands--it's just a better quality plastic and better quality product. Now, the support...er...sucks. I was told by Xerox support that win 7 wasn't supported even though their site said it was. And the drivers would crash upon install no matter how I did it. I just ended up using a older xerox win 7 color laser driver and it worked fine, but they couldn't tell me that? o_O
And here's 2x of these back again at what is already at or what will be an astounding low price for a solid color laser. I'm still on my starter toners as I only use it for color printing and I've printed over 100 pages already without even a change in toner levels. :) I bet I'll go at least 3 years without needing toner, and in a home environment I could see this lasting even longer. They're sitting at $130+tax+shipping right now, and I know they'll drop to right under $100 as that's what I got mine at (tax+shipping was ~$40). Solid deal for what is a really solid printer:
