Brink, thoughts?

All of my friends have slowly been losing faith in the game based on the videos that have been released lately combined with previous points I've brought up in this thread. No friends to play with means I'm not planning on buying it either.

I bought the game on D2D, i tried activating the key on steam but it wouldn't let me. Is it possible?

Pre-order bonus code from D2D just released, simply enter into steam like you did with the game code. This is only for the pre-order bonus if you ordered from D2D, go check your account.

My key is invalid. Thanks d2d, I've had nothing but bad experiences with them. I was really excited to try this out tonight too =/ (I'm in the US by the way)

Watching the intro vid for 1000XP bonus, it's the same as all the previously released SMART videos. So open a web browser...

Game is getting some pretty terrible reviews. Glad I decided to wait.

Restarted and still not getting audio. Shit. I even plugged into different ports, nothing.
Could it be my video drivers? I know thats an odd thing but I've seen crazier. I am running 10.4 ATI drivers, which is why I'm asking.

for sound issues I got this from steam forum

Steps:

Go into your Steam/steamapps/common/brink/directx
Run DXSETUP.EXE
Let it finish

The more I hear the bitching from my buddies the more I'm glad I waited on this.

Man, that review is brutal...

Some might argue that the [first-person shooter] genre's formative years produced some of the greatest shooters of all time. What they cannot argue, however, is this: Those days are over.

Its moments of triumph are unsatisfying and far outnumbered by its moments of crushing frustration.

...but unfortunately, any innovation Brink brings to the table is mired in its habitually imbalanced nature, as well as its sometimes stupefyingly flawed gameplay design.

At every turn, it doesn't just settle for mediocrity -- it runs towards it with ramming speed.

...unfortunately, just about everything else lands flat on its face.

Damn, brutal... and how in-depth they describe the problems with the game, of which there seem to be way too many, really explains the issues as well, so it's not like they're just throwing out unfounded opinions.

Now I know why I felt so iffy about this game, and definitely glad I didn't pre-order it...

...and in the end, I'm betting that something far more "simple" such as DNF that's not "trying so hard" and not attempting to break any insanely complicated new ground, just to be an enjoyable game, will be a hit. Ironic, but that tends to happen more often than not, especially these days.

I'm all for trying new things and experimenting, but maybe they just "tried too hard" in some ways, but definitely seems like they didn't try hard enough in other ways.

Reviews are mixed, and averaging around 6/10. Only one review above 8/10 so far.

Kinda knew it wouldn't be anything special, glad I passed. Learned my lesson after quake wars.

I got the audio to work but it runs like shit! I am running crossfired 4850's so I'm going to update drivers and see if it helps

FWIW it pushes my 460's pretty hard (to 99% and 97% respectively). framerate is 60-70 fps, it seems to be pretty demanding. it's not all that pretty.

I remember hearing about this game months back, hype died down and shot up again a couple days before today.

The game looks like it came out looking horrible! Looks like a borderland/tf2 mash up. I'll wait on this one to see if it's even worth picking up @ $10

I've learnt from past mistakes, watching justin.tv streams and the game looks pretty generic... the SMART cover system looks like a pretty big gimmick.. as I thought it would be.

from my very limited playing (about 45 min) the game's first impression is not strong. the action is fast paced, which is fine, but it seems like everything it does...TF2 does just as well or better. i'll waste some time on it this coming weekend, but as of right now it looks like a game i won't really get into. we'll see.

sigh, the game looks mediocre and runs like crap. Fraps says 60-70 fps but it feels like 30. I dunno, bad port or just a bad game? Online was kind of laggy as well and there is no K: D score or anything. I'm trying to figure out the purpose of this game lol. So far , $50 wasted. Awaiting day 1 patch.. not gonna write it off yet.

now what am I going to play? Another whole damn week until witcher 2 comes out... ugh..

really disappointed w/ Brink right now....:(

gameplay just seems so bland and sluggish, guess I'll give it more time and maybe it will grow on me....

Yeah the graphics really aren't that great looking but I am getting horrible FPS, I mean I know I don't have the nicest cards but damn. But I'm surprised people say the gameplay sucks, its pretty cool from what I CAN run

gameplay just seems so bland and sluggish

really? it seems very fast paced to me. are you playing free-play in a server? i was playing an 'escort the hostage' game-type earlier and a 'blow up this wall and keep progressing through the map' game-type early and it was full of action. definitely not sluggish, in that sense.

I found the culprit! I am looking at open hardware monitor, my second graphics card is NOT being used, it got 1% usage while my other is at 99%. This game is not scaling with crossfire, I would like others to confirm.
