Black Myth: Wu Kong

I have been reading so many people arguing on Reddit on whether this is souls like or something else - but in terms of difficulty, is this much easier than Elden Ring? Or does it involve a ton of trial and movement memorization to beat bosses?
You're not going to die to the trash mobs in Wukong like you would in FromSoft games. The bosses I've seen so far have maybe 3-6 total moves that they use with one or two of those that may take a bit of trial-and-error to figure out how to dodge.

I go to Chapter 2 last night and was pretty blown away by that sequence. I've only fought a handful of bosses in Ch2 but some of them are quite a bit more difficult than anything in Ch1. I still wouldn't really consider it to be "Hard" though.
I need that music, it was awesome.

I am super intrigued by this game, but absolutely dislike souls types of games (difficulty). From what I heard its much more forgiving than average souls game, so tempted to try it. Wish there was a demo...

You can always try it out for 2 hours and refund if you don’t like it, it is similarly difficult to souls games and other souls-likes however.

Around about how long is this game on average? I know it’ll differ amongst people but a general idea?

Action-RPG, I would say it is kind of like Sekiro, but not a Soulsborne game, and might not be as difficult as a typical souls game (not entirely sure yet, just reached Chapter 3).
Agreed. You don't have access to hundreds of weapons, armors, etc. like a Souls game with the focus more on a handful of weapons and upgrades, much like Sekiro. Sekiro was more about quality over quantity, and I think that's the vibe here. Plus, the storytelling through actual storytelling, not reading item descriptions.

What I wish to know is whether the gameplay is trial and error where you have to learn the attack patterns and movements of the enemies through multiple failed attempts or is it feasible to succeed on the first try.

Some bosses you can succeed on first try. But mostly it will be trial and error or a ton of patience to learn patterns. Also bosses have non advertised phases so if you are doing well they will change attack patterns.

Thanks, then I pass, thanks for saving me the money and time.

Note that I only played 1 hour and also watched maybe 2-3 gameplay by tubers. There were definitely people beating bosses on first attempt. Nothing I saw made it look like God of War games. Also nothing I saw made it look like even Stellar Blade - game I recently played and loved. This one doesn’t even have a map so it is very easy to miss parts of the game.

Just finished chapter 3, I just can’t put this game down, having so much fun.. seriously can’t recommend it enough.

I’ll probably beat it before we get what will hopefully be some decent performance related patches, but for now I’m happy to overlook that.

One thing though, do we ever see games get HDR support down the line?

I don't understand the reluctance of not adding an easier difficulty option for those who may want a different level of challenge. Make the current difficulty a default and just add an easier option for those of us with family, kids and tons of work obligations.

It's not as simple as just "make game easier". Difficulty options can take a lot of time and effort, especially to do properly. If you're not able to commit to learning the game, modifying enemy health and damage won't change a darn thing. They'd have to alter attack patterns, change how enemies telegraph moves, reduce the complexity of boss move sets, increase the timing for dodges, increase stagger, change i-frames for every single enemy in the game as well as the player, and so on. In the end, it could drastically change what the game is and what the developers want players to get out of it. Not every game is for every person. Its alright if, for any reason, you can't commit to the game's demands and it's alright for developers to design games to cater to specific audiences.

most games are trial and error as far as enemies/bosses...it's not unique to the Souls genre...who would want to just breeze through games on Easy Mode?...that would be the worst thing to ever happen to gaming

the Souls games are also about more than difficulty- the level design, enemy design, dozens of weapons/armor, fashion, various classes such as Strength, Dexterity, Magic Pyromancy that are all equally viable

It’s because the difficulty is a large part of the appeal. There will likely be a mod at some point, but I strongly prefer games that are shipped without a difficulty slider. Plus, it’s really not that wild, and either way, the juice is worth the squeeze.

Many games have done this. It can’t be that hard. Would increase sales even further so they will get paid for their work.

It would dismiss the majority of the fan base though, that’s the point. The difficulty here is by no means excessive but it is close to par relative to souls-like titles, and it should be. If that’s not your bag that’s fine, plenty of other games out there with difficulty options. I’d say push through though, it’s so worth it. GOTY for me unless Stalker 2 blows my tits off.

Really good game.

Only complaint I have is that for a UE5 game the performance with raytracing is kind of jank. I played still wakes the deep and senua 2 and both those games did not have the stutter this game has. Runs great with raytracing disabled though.

Honestly enjoying this game more than Elden Ring. These style of souls-like games really benefit from the more focused experience.

everyone loves Souls type of games!...long live Dark Souls!
Speak for yourself lol, I hate darksouls. Mechanically dull and tedious. This game is more like GoW than darksouls imo. The only Souls game I liked was Sekiro and I was bored by the end.

Okay people, just because the game is hard doesn't mean it is Souls-like. The action is faster paced AND there is no corpse run (thank god). If you lose a fight, you do not lose anything and you can try the boss again without a stress that you risk losing the hard earned XP if you fail to get back to where you died. This fact alone makes the game a not Soulsborne. The game isn't masochistic that it is out to punish you every single moment you make a small mistake.
