Black Myth: Wu Kong

The numbers that Elden Ring, Cyberpunk and now this, show that high performance PC are not that rare at all, latest steam survey 27% of people had higher than a 3060, 17% of the DX12 gpu are Lovelace generation, when you have 132 millions users those are giant figure, each 4% are 5+ millions players.

We can imagine steam are generous when counting their numbers, newer hardware are more tech enthusiast that accept to fill the survey and overrepresented... 6 millions of people with a 4070 super or above Nvidia card with a steam account according to the survey

For any Intel Arc owners A770 plays pretty well in benchmark. 1440P FRS and FG nets good frames between 60-70. Tweaks from the Hardware Unbox non RT Performance with some of the mediums and highs bumped up 1 notch. Strange it barely uses any VRAM...

On the fence to buy it...

And seem lower in DX12 than DX11 a bit in that regard (at least in the demo run), Nanite being good with memory management ? Seem to use less system ram at the same time as well, like nanite only load one LOD instead of all of them and shift which to render or something like that

I’m so enthralled by this that I think I’m going to stop playing and ‘save the experience’ for the Labour Day weekend. LOL.

I tried it for 1 hour and it is not for me. Same old overly difficult crap where you need to wait up to recharge the powers before use while the boss will keep jumping around unpredictably.
I wish such games tried for a more inclusive audience.

Here is a fix for aspect ratio and forced sharpening:

https://github.com/Lyall/UltrawidePatches/tree/main/Black Myth Wukong

Just extract the stuff into the main game folder where the b1.exe is and enable (=true) the sharpening fix in the SUWSF.ini

I'm using SpecialK for HDR in this game (better than RTX HDR) and at first the sharpening fix did not work. Started the game without SpecialK and it suddenly worked and after that, it somehow worked with SpecialK too. With DLDSR @ 5120*2880 @ 60% smoothness and DLSS performance and without forced sharpening. It looks much more natural now. God, how I fucking hate forced stuff.

good graphics?

I don't know what the threshold of people is for graphics. To me they are decent. Some good water effects for sure. However, at 65 fps 4K DLSS Quality and RT maxed the game was pretty choppy for me (I prefer 80-100 fps for such games). It wasn't a smooth experience. I heard by dropping to performance you can get away with high RT (instead of cinematic) and get some 80-90 fps. Might be worth a try. I might repurchase after I find a difficulty hack but right now I don't have time for this bullshit.

These games should really take a page from Stellar Blade and implement features that allows more players in the fold.

I have 7 hours played, currently in chapter 2. I have not experienced many performance issues. But I do play at lower settings than you with a similar PC (7800X3D, 4090, 32GB RAM, 990 Pro SSD), I've been playing at 4K high settings (+ cinematic textures), medium full RT, DLSS (77%), framegen off, I also limit my FPS to 60 with RTSS. I didn't want to spend too much time messing with settings so I just lowered everything a bit and this has been working great so far in chapter 1 and chapter 2, no noticeable dips. Haven't had much stutter as well, I think I did in the first area, but I can't really remember, and that might have been because I was using frame-gen at first, but didn't like how it felt like 30 fps input lag.

I think the highest settings are for future hardware.

ROFL....PC Gamer just put out an article crying that Game Science told them to fuck off again when asked to comment on IGNs fabricated hit piece!
They wasted 12 whole paragraphs on it.

"We have no comment, we're sorry," Game Science said via a translator. "We're only looking to answer questions related to the game and the gameplay."

It was a frustrating answer, considering we'd spent a good chunk of the interview discussing the studio's growth from a small team to one large enough to take on a AAA singleplayer game, and the GameScience founders' first crack at adapting Journey to the West in a previous MMO. Our conversation wasn't limited to the minutia of gameplay, but the "no comment" was the same GameScience provided to The Guardian during a hands-on preview in July.
It's frustrating to the developer that you idiots keeps asking them about irrelevant things in an interview that is supposed to be about their game. Things that have been proven to be an error, deliberate or otherwise, in a translation an IGN author used to try and boost their career.

Do they still hold opinions like the ones co-founder Yang Qi posted on blogging site Weibo, in 2013, stating games men like and games women like are determined "by biological conditions?"
Dear god, you're telling me men and women like different things because we're... different? How dare someone hold such an opinion in <current year>.

With no explanation, it's hard not to read the silence as a sign that GameScience feels it has nothing to apologize for, and the near-130,000, 96% positive reviews on Steam show there's been seemingly little impact from the studio staying silent.
Yes, the mainstream gaming press continues to lose relevance day-by-day. I wonder why that could be?

Game Science is doing what they should do: Ignore manufactured controversy and never apologize.

The benchmark looks tolerable at 1440 with a 7800xt. Ray trace was as expected. Avg 44 fps with ray trace, 86 without. Highest settings. Personally it looked better without ray tracing using newest drivers. Six gig vram used, or so the bench reports.
Haven't looked at it yet on an Nvidia box yet.

The eye candy looks good. Fair storyline, uses a controller. May try and pick this up this winter.

60 fps without frame gen feels better? That's interesting. I might rebuy just to try it out and see if I git gud lol.

Before you go buy the game again.. If you want me to show you how it performs the way I set it up, I can record a video of the first area and just run through it if I remember my way around. So you can see how the frametimes are. But yea it's feels good. Just tell me if you wanted it uncapped framerate or limited to 60, it would only take me about 5 mins to record.

Yeah the 8GB 4060ti has no issues matching the 16GB version.

It also doesn't improve performance much when scaling down resolution. Only a 50% gain in fps going from 4k to 1080p. Most other games see around 100% fps gain.

Opening Area Keyboard and mouse controls are ok didn't really settle down and plug in my X-Box controller and Valari Pillow.

I would appreciate that. Thanks. If possible both would be great.

not sure where they got it, its not on amd's site, i looked before i posted....
maybe it in the auto-update function i disable.
never mind... wtf
https://www.amd.com/de/resources/support-articles/release-notes/RN-RAD-WIN-24-8-1.html ah its the german site, US site has not posted yet

it says on that page: The WHQL-certified AMD Adrenalin Edition 24.8.1 driver is now available for installation via the Radeon Settings app...a standalone download link can also be found on its release notes page for the driver here

download links are right there in the Release Notes page

the link in my post ended up actually downloading 24.7.1 and is now dead. 24.8.1 isnt released yet after all.

PC Gamer still has the best up-to-the-minute news for pc gaming, so (unfortunately) they’re kind of indispensable for that… but the rest of their stuff is almost unreadable, and when they get political their stuff becomes infuriating. They’re idiots.

DF was saying that a constant 60 FPS (frame-capped) might be essential for smooth gameplay. Dragon’s Dogma 2 is like that - a capped 60 is smoother than an uncapped super high, fluctuating frame rate.

The game does look significantly better with max settings, I'm tempted to do the 40 FPS cap and see if I can tolerate it. I wish there was a "High" RT setting for something between Medium and Very High.

Seems there are some areas that stutter is consistent, didn't want to spoil too much so I just ended at the first boss arena each time.

Seems that frame gen is the problem child then as it is causing the lag and unresponsiveness that I felt in the game. A bit difficult to make out from those videos as you didn't fight a boss etc. but I feel frame gen is causing significant lag. Without it all your videos seem responsive. 40 fps capped looked surprisingly smooth.

I think I will continue to play with RT low now + maxed out settings + DLSS performance @ highest DL-DSR res (5760*3240). Worse water reflections (at least sharp though lol), but the bump up in image quality is something what I always see. Without forced sharpening and DLDSR smoothness at 55 + SpecialK HDR, it looks IMO as perfect as it can get. Still feels snappy enough with FG around 70FPS. Also feels a little bit smoother in terms of 1% lows because of less RT GPU/CPU workload I guess.

One thing I noticed that’s kind of weird is that in the settings it shows my native resolution of 2560x1600 but only shows 16:9 aspect ratio. I have black bars on top and bottom in game so maybe it doesn’t actually support 16:10? Also recently noticed blur at the bottom of the screen that almost looks like screen tearing but it isn’t.

I didn't realize PUBG: Battlegrounds was still so popular...looks like Wukong won't be able to surpass that game on the Steam all-time charts

It doesn't support 16:10 or 32:9 aspect ratios. 16:10 is a dead AR.

It did start the battle royale craze. The arma 2 mod was the og but def not popular per se.

For 40 FPS you would probably want to use motion blur on weak, otherwise it is a little hard on the eyes even with VRR.

I made a gameplay video at 40 FPS, It contains the 3 mini bosses in the starter area and the first actual boss. The first miniboss (river) is the only one that had frame dips IIRC, didn't notice it myself during gameplay, but was surprised to see it when I watched the fight. Other than that the framerate only seems to dip slightly in cutscenes, I think it depends on the particles and volumetrics. I did skip most the cutscenes when recording it because I wanted to focus on gameplay. I haven't edited the video, I don't know how otherwise I would have cut out some scenes. You can skip around it to find any parts you're interested in.

The settings I used were 4K, DLSS 77% (might be 75, it keeps changing on me), Weak Motion Blur, Very High (Preset), Very High RT.

Game is awesome.

I've only played up to the bear so far but it's been pretty easy going IMO. Most bosses are going down in 1-3 tries. Hardest boss for me so far was the
big head demon in the first area but he still went down in 6 tries and I 1-shot the upgraded necromancer version of him.

People in the "posts" are saying this mod improves performance: https://www.nexusmods.com/blackmythwukong/mods/13

I don't have time to test it myself today, might test it tomorrow.
I can confirm, it gave me a nice little boost and the frame stutters are significantly smaller and much less frequent. Though I did notice some extremely minor asset pop-up after installing but I can't be certain it was this mod or an odd fluke.

Ok I will be the one that asks...what is the difficulty like? For any Souls like (I know I know it's not a Souls like) I can play the game and if a boss gets the better of me I can summon help then move on to the rest of the game. Since this game does not have that option just wondering what the level of difficulty is.

You should find out exactly what settings were changed. The description is vague on what it changed. The use of the words "optimized" and whatnot lead me to believe that it fucks around with the memory management and streaming settings so that fewer assets are being streamed in at once than at default.
