Same man. I bought it, it's the first MMO I've played and found too complicated. I guess I've gotten soft over the years, but there's just so much to do it can be very overwhelming to new players. I felt like I needed a serious strategy guide just to figure out WTF to do.

Well in defense of the complexity, there are guides to everything on Reddit. Also you only need to pick one thing at a time to master.

So let's say you try fishing and like it. Stick with fishing and as you slowly level your skill; you will increase your chances of getting rare items from fishing. Say the fishing ranks are complete noobie, tripped over a rod and bumped your head, by golly fishing is fun, apprentice, professional, master, sensei, legendary, and exalted. As you progress through each rank, the quality, probability, and selling potential of each type of fish that you can catch increases.

Then you can get a bigger boat, bling the boat out with decorations, make the boat faster, stronger, enchant the boat to make it faster, stronger, hold more fish, etc. Then as you rank up you will be able to wield rods that can catch multiple fish at once, speed up AFK fishing, catch rare fish that vendor for tens of thousands of gold each, etc. There is a timer for turning in the rare fish that makes coming back to the shore fast an interesting endeavor. You can go whaling with others and get rare jewelry. You have to have a really high fishing level to equip a harpoon to go whaling. There are trinkets that go into equipment slots that seem to only come from fishing. You have to level fishing to level the trinkets.

At this point you might say to yourself; "Why am I here? What am I doing?" as you get burned out on fishing. So then you may change professions to say the gathering of logs, skinning, etc. Again just like fishing there is a ton of ranks and rewards to reap from doing it. You have a ton of fun and get it to legendary status.

Now you might try milking cows? Armorsmith? Why not run a costume mill and make +3 enchanted gathering , cooking, fishing, etc uniforms that sell for million of gold each? Weaponsmith and make rare enchanting materials that most people don't have the time to make, but literally EVERY person requires to level their gear? Make a worker empire and sell raw materials on the AH while you grind mobs. Dear lord have you seen all the cooking recipes and group / personal buffs you get from the food? I've seen dudes running around with what looks like 25 food buffs at one time.

Again I want to reiterate. You ONLY DO ONE THING AT A TIME. OTHERWISE YOU WILL BE CONFUSED AS HELL! Pick ONE thing that you think might be interesting and then max it out.
 
I reinstalled it this evening just for giggles. It runs surprisingly well on my system at 1440p. Better than Warcraft or Guild Wars 2, by far.

Figure I'll take Cagey's advice and try out one thing for as much time as I can spare this upcoming week before I decide to plunk down any cash on it.

Give me something other than FFXIV to control my life. ;)

Well, I'd play if I could figure out how to stop everything on the screen from flickering and shimmering and driving me nuts.

I've set the graphic options to various things and nothing solves the problem. :(

Distant items seem ok, but as I move around, things close to the character seem to flicker/shimmer and it's annoying as hell.

Guess I could try to disable SLI and see if that matters.....

I turned off SSAO and definitely recommend disabling SLI

when FPS dips, it's due to game being CPU limited not GPU

FPS is pretty solid at 60 FPS, but the flickering... its going to make me go blind.

Going to waste this entire 7 day trial on debugging this it seems.
 
All awakenings are now out. Also, in case someone didn't know, both main and awakening weapon contribute to the damage of the awakening skills damage.

EDIT:
I'm trying really hard to get either Witch or Wizard (ideally both) but my bidding RNG seems to suck big time.

Woot! RNG success! Managed to get the Witch set... I planned to play Wizard first but that kinda depends on if I can get the outfit. It doesn't look good for that Wizard outfit though... Whales seem to prefer Witch and the other.

Oh well... I guess four orbs are better than two. :angelic:

Spending the holidays alone this year so I decided to re-download and give this game a 2nd chance over the next few days.
 
I'm still trying to solve my flickering graphics issues, otherwise I'd have logged close to a hundred playing hours by now I bet.

Just cant play with half the screen flickering on and off all the time I'm moving.

Driver rollback might be my next try.
 
Uninstalled it again after a few hours. This one's just notttttt for me. Oh well.
 
Had good RNG luck today and managed to grab Wizard awakening outfit from marketplace. Now I wonder which one I should level up first... Witch or Wizard.

Same. I think it's just too asian for my taste though, graphically and gameplay wise as far as MMO's go.

I play alone and I'm also not in any guild. I just do what I want and enjoy it that way (while trying to get as much as silver as possible).
 
That's why I rarely rely on rng when enchanting. My luck sucks. Dark Knight has rather cool awakening.

It's worse than AION's enchanting system. Koreans must be some hardcore SOB's in real life to enjoy throwing hard work away with the click of a button. :)
 
Dunno about AION's system but they are pretty hardcore.

By the way, this is pretty rare:

Tier 4 horse with drift and sprint. If it would have instant acceleration too it would be pretty crazy.
 
Ha ha in Aion you lost the item. You would grind for a week to get the mats to enchant your gear. And then it was RNG if you kept it or not. What we would do is make 5 man groups and grind for a guy's set of armor and donate all materials to him. Then we would have a big ceremony where everyone cheered him on to succeed. I never succeeded and I was the guild leader of the biggest, most lethal guild on the server. We ran the server and killed all the bosses. If you wanted boss gear you had to buy it from us. I negotiated a truce with the gold sellers so that we kept all the high end boss gear and they kept the low end stuff. That's how influential we were.

My guild even donated materials to me and I failed them all. I tried a hundred of times I bet. So when we went to battle, I was the first to die if attacked. Luckily I was a mage, and Koreans love to make mages in their games hit hard. So I could blow 5 or 6 of the opposition away before my wings folded.

So yes, I'm used to this type of enchanting; still makes me sad though.

Not my video! They seemed to be gathering them and depositing them onto islands. :) When the person comes back they are in Timbuktu without a boat and have to swim back.

More of a prank than malicious.
 
Alright, So I started playing again last night. I decided to start a new player cause its been awhile Since i played. I hit 21 last night on a ninja. I guess they have daily login perks and all sorts of shit. I have 6 pages of crap in my mail, One of them being over 16 million currency due to my fame? Its was a good time. I joined a small guild and was just really beating the shit out of people. One of the items was a 200% experience for 30 min. I just ran outside the first city and started beating the crap out of goblins. Next thing I noticed was some box in my mail that had a +9 sword in it and equipped that shit. I sent some friends some codes so hopefully other people start playing. Im worried about my attention dropping off end game.
