BioShock Infinite

Good game. Solid so far with everything. Awesome art direction and it really flows story wise.

Glad to see everyone's enjoying, though I already knew ;). Maybe a tad bit biased, but with all the crap we've had to endure the last year or so (though there were some shining examples mixed in), it's nice that we at least have Tomb Raider and this to start the 2013 year off.

I always find it funny gamers want a wider view. Yet a ton of them own 16:10 monitors which is narrower view then 16:9.

1920x1080 vs 1920x1200... Which do you think is "wider". Now which do you think is "taller". :p

Some numbers if anyone cares:

1080p, Ultra Preset:

Min: 17
Max: 292
Avg: 123

1080p, Ultra + DDOF Preset:

Min: 13
Max: 265
Avg: 106

1440p, Ultra Preset:

Min: 11
Max: 328
Avg: 85

1440p, Ultra + DDOF Preset:

Min: 12
Max: 317
Avg: 69

With your rig the FPS seems to be all over the place. Have you noticed any immersion breaking dips in FPS?

Something I noticed playing this game last night. Can you not stack up salts? I'm only like an hour or so in. I thought in the first one you could inject yourself with more when you ran low. This game seems you can only fill up the bar and not carry any more.

I like how they tried to label the Season Pass as "bonus packs" instead of DLC of which, by the way, one is a day one DLC.

Only had a chance to run the benchmark before bed last night. Is there no way to get vsync in the benchmark?

UltraDX11_DDOF (DX11-only, same as UltraDX11 but with Diffusion Depth of Field) @ 2560x1600

I Fraps'd about 30min of the game too :) => http://youtu.be/F_pG3WRxoTA <=

Nope. The drops are only when loading a new level. In game, I never see below 75 fps at ultra 1920x1080 w/ a 2500K at 4.4 and a 7950 @ 1100/1450. Game runs fine with maybe occasional tearing due to vsync being off.

You guys see the beautiful rain drop puddle effects on wooden textures and the water droplets seamlessly flowing down the metal structures and windows, right at the base of the light tower?

The devil is in the details.

That's the kind of stuff I live for! Damn is it great to see someone else appreciate that.

Gonna chime in here with my shouldn't be on topic but it is political nonsense.

Now I'm only about 20 minutes in but I gotta say I'm little let down by the story. BS was very subtle about the case they were trying present, but this game is just kinda in your face about it like Don't be a menace to south central. Every 5 seconds damon wayans pops out of the game screams at you MESSAGE. I mean I'm still enjoying myself yeah no subtlety here. I sort of wonder though if flag waving tea party purists could actually stand to play this game.

Quite pleased by native eyefinity support (including bezel compensation). 5760x1080 seems to be running fine on very high settings even on my old i7 920 and 5870 (2gb).

Right on.

Also, you damn bastards with your taking the day off to play the game.

Stayed up till 1:30AM, feeling it today at work while sipping on my 3rd coffee and reminiscing about all the purdy details I saw within the game.

Is Bioshock Infinite using Unreal Turkey Engine 3, right? Heavily modified of course.

Yes, but doesn't look modified at all or have any additional things that you can't do with the base engine TBH. Sometimes "modified" is just something developers like to say so it's less like they just used someone else's engine and its more "their" work! If they really feel that way they say "heavily modified" (but then why didn't they just write their own?). :D

I didn't get a chance to try this last night... :(

Also, IF I SEE SPOILERS IN HERE I WILL KILL YOUR FAMILY.

Sometimes in order for certain code to work and how the team envisions it working, "modification" is necessary.

Reasoning for modifying an existing engine is because it's heavily time consuming to write your own (yes the game took a while to make). By time consuming (what ISN'T time consuming), I mean VERY time consuming.

The engine is in fact 3. 2.5 was considered way back when.

Dumbledore dies.

I'm crashing a lot so hopefully updating to the new drivers helps.

The game looks amazing. It's not even the graphics. The art style is just awesome. The water and reflections when you first get to the city are just amazing. The whole atmosphere is great. I've barely even played it and I'm fairly impressed.

i also had a lot of crashes, i couldnt even launch the game. new display drivers and a reboot fixed this though.

runs great and looks great.

the combat isnt at all what i thought, the gameplay videos are very misleading. its definitely not call of duty thats for sure.

I think you might misunderstand or have a media/government-biased view of what Tea Party folks are actually like.

I'm a Tea Party Patriot and am enjoying it thoroughly, regardless of the story's ridiculous framing of patriotism and religion.

If you get to know anyone who actually believes in what the Tea Party stands for, not just you're usual Fair-Weather Patriot, bandwagon jumper, supposedly racist, supposedly bigoted, supposedly gay-bashing homophobic hick (as portrayed by the media and government), you'll find most of us are your average, run-of-the-mill American who likes to keep and open mind and just live and let live. Most Tea Party folks won't advertise that they are, either because they are afraid of being labeled something they are not, or because they don't have the need to self-idealize themselves with an ideology.

You'll be shocked when you find out Elizabeth is actually a dude...and the bad guy isn't...and the main character is a manly woman...

I know that, but seriously you can just add gameplay/whatever with classes. The only reason for modifying usually is to add "stuff" or to streamline, which there's not a bunch of evidence for them doing. :D

I didn't think any of the gameplay videos made the combat look like Call of Duty...?

maybe call of duty is a bad example. it just didnt look like bioshock to me. but when i was playing it definitely feels like bioshock its nice.

You'd be surprised how much is actually "modified" and how much "stuff" is actually manipulated. ;)

I think I know what you're trying to say. It definitely felt like "Bioshock" to me through and through, that part was always unchanged.

Yes, one of the earliest trailers (from a year ago I think) showed nothing but skyhook/gun rampage, and at that point it DID NOT look like Bioshock at all... I wasn't impressed at all. Good thing they didn't turn this game into another half-assed shooter...

Thank you. Frankly, the whole idea that the OVERT racism and pre-fascist nationalism present in the early 1900s has any parallel in politics circa 2013 is insulting. Tea Party patriots idealize FREEDOM (including freedom FROM gov't) as enshrined in the constitution. The giant behemoth government that consumes everything in sight (and barely takes in half of what it spends) is what should have people concerned, NOT the Tea Party.

You're all still collectivists, however.

I enjoy a good political theme in a game. Bioshock 1 went a little loopy but it did have fun trying to show how ugly objectivists and Rand fans can be.

Some developers try not to intentionally piss off the target audience that made the game popular in the first place.

Kinda why I at least specify purists, but I'm from the south and that's been my general experience. Any Tea Partier I've ever personally met is willfully ignorant of the complexity of modern american society and generally hateful, sometimes violently so. Even a portion my family members who are out spoken Tea Partiers have recently done and said things that have seriously put a strain on the rest of the family. It's pretty easy to draw from the Tea Party wiki where they got some of these ideas from for the game. The game opens up with you dumped before these comical Idols of the founding fathers. There's plenty of people I hear like you that swear up and down the party isn't a bunch of hate mongering, gay bashing, xenophobes and racial purists or just plain crazy and it's media hype but in private conversation and anonymous polls on equality it seems to be very prevalent in the party. The whole thing with the Tea Party express Leader Mark Williams and now this recent deal with Todd Akins insanity is pretty damning. I can see why people wouldn't want to advertise their affiliation. It's much easier to be openly Left where people at worst make well intention-ed mistakes and occasionally philander. To each is own though I'm glad you can still enjoy the game despite it's message. For what it's worth I stand corrected Ken Levine: BioShock Infinite Is Not About The Tea Party I suppose.

PC Gamer says the game is much better if played on Hard difficulty.
It's funny to me that he has to even say any of that. Obviously it makes you play smarter, be more clever about how you consume resources, and often times forces you to be creative... that's why it's called hard >_<

The Eyefinity/Surround support in this game is quite nice.

I wish the game saved more often though.
There's no quicksave? Levine is supposed to like quicksave....
This is really bad news. I hope this doesn't affect their plans for a new Deus Ex...

Well obviously it's not the graphics =P If it was released on the same 'ol consoles we've been dealing with... it's pretty clear that it'll be held back in some ways.

However what is nice is seeing how they can overcome the power limitations by good art direction. Tomb Raider seemed to be a similar story.

I think it should be played on 1999 mode right from the start, because it at least makes you think about how you should approach encounters, nav markers are disabled, and dying has some pretty hefty consequences. Actually feels like System Shock 2 in a lot of ways.

From what I've played (two hours worth), the graphics are mediocre. Perhaps I'm spoiled by Crysis 3 and modded Skyrim, but I notice so many areas where there are horrible meshes, cubemaps, and textures, among other things.
