Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

Just played 3 maps straight.

...This game is epic. Im so glad I have nothing to do tomorrow except play this all day.
I hope they fix the lag by then. I was getting some pretty hardcore rubber banding. Still managed to pull off 32-6 with support & engineer on conquest.

Some sort of ping display would be nice..

Considering publishers are still subservient to the retailers for the majority of their sales, Gamestop doesn't have anything to lose by breaking street-release date. If the DD platforms release early, the retailers cry rape and threaten to stop stocking games.

But in this case the DD platform is owned by the publisher lol.

has anyone who received the early release email been able to launch the game without doing the proxy trick?

Is that really the case? And I would also differentiate retailers as one huge group and Gamestop alone. If EA pulled out of Gamestop, EA would still be fine...not sure you could say the same about Gamestop.
 
Mine still fails the date check as well. I wonder if it has anything to do with ordering from amazon vs Origin. Maybe only origin orders are getting in early?(legitimately).

I ordered straight from origin and have receive no email, and still fail the date check.

Go to a near empty server. Much easier to get jets and helicopters. That's how I taught myself to fly using kb/m in BC2.

Exactly, which means that EA can't say "oh Steam released early, we had nothing to do with it!" and so the publisher is solely responsible for releasing before the retail stores and getting an advantage. Gamestop extorts the publishers, not the DD platforms.

We'd have to see what percentage of boxed-copy sales come from Gamestop and other specialist gaming retailers. The fact that Gamestop now regularly gets its own exclusive game content that only benefits Gamestop and definitely not the consumers (probably something publishers use when bargaining for shelf space) does suggest a certain level of reliance EA and others have on that store chain specifically. Gamestop's international versions may be more dominant in their regions than in America, also.
 
gaa....I know I am going to be sorely disappointed with this game but I bought it anyway through amazon....fuck...

see if I actually get it though since Amazon told me it was taking longer to process.
 
got my 'release date changed' email. now i can feel like i'm part of the cool kids club.

That's what Battlefield is all about. Find your own little role your good at and stick to it.

They have the scoring system right, see guys at the top of the board in servers when they have died twice as much as they've killed, just done their "role" right.

I play the game regularly and i'm real excited for BF3 SP. I played through BC2's SP campaign 2.5 times as well.
 
That email some of you are getting that says 10/24/2011 preorder blah blah is for the Physical Warfare Pack. I know it's silly to get an email saying that is available when the game isn't but it is EA afterall. If you want to play early do the proxy thing. I'm just going to wait and play in the morning legit. I've waited years for this game, and a few more hours won't hurt anything.

I'm on the fence about the proxy thing, think I'll wait it out. It'd suck hard to wait so long just to get banned or something mere hours before release.
 
I got the email's from EA saying the release date was changed to the 24th, but still fail the date check. Whats the deal? I dont want to use the proxy trick. Also, could someone shoot me a link to the latest amd driver pls?

Actually, no. I got the email for both the physical warfare pack and the game itself. Two emails.

interesting theory.....sounds about right.
 
SP was indeed "meh." Nothing we haven't seen before, but kept me entertained for about 5 hours today while I waited to see just how many people were going to do the date check work around and try to play online.

What I've noticed so far:

Some lag issues with servers, wasn't severe on the server I played on

Spotting people/vehicles works just like it did in beta, but if you hold Q down the commo rose comes up. I like the way this works

My 1911 was unlocked, 3 different versions of it. I pre ordered through Origin though, and no PWP yet (couldn't select DAO-12, I think the others need to be unlocked).

Game runs smoothly on my hardware, and looks excellent on simply "high," though the customization and loadout menus seems a little sluggish.

From what I can tell, even with the bit of lag on the server I was in (pinged it for 23ms) the netcode is VASTLY improved as far as hitboxes/registration goes.

Battlelog seems to be experiencing technical difficulties. Other than that, I played for maybe 10-20 mins and had an absolute blast. I felt worn out / not as excited about the game anymore after playing straight through the campaign...that all went away after one round of MP. :D
 
Huge stutter with SLI/CFX. :(

You would have thought they would have learned from BC2 which is now silky smooth.
 
I dont know whats going on. Battlelog is taking years to load and won't let me even load up SP even though I have activated it

Gah! I'm totally distracted by the anticipation. Since finally pre-ordering this afternoon, it feels like time has slowed down. Feels like being a kid who can't sleep on Xmas morning, waiting for everyone to wake up.

Nine more hours... ARGH!
 
People playing on the servers complaining about SLI stutter. My Crossfire also stutters quite a bit. DICE fail!

sort of odd, did you get stutter in the beta? in the beta, once my FPS were high enough (60+) i didn't notice any stutter running in SLI.

I tound using msaa caused stutter despite showing vrwm with a scrap of wiggle room. Ieft post process aa on, turbed off msaa, and silky smooth now. Probably just people setting things too high... I am on max but for that. Hbao on.
