Battlefield 2042

No server browser either, what's the excuse for that missing?

I think a lot of the shortcomings of this game make sense if you view it as a BR game that only had 6 months to switch to a 'Batttlefield' game.

For instance:

No Server Browser
No Changing Squads
No Joining friends already in a game
No Scoreboard
Specialists

All make sense in a BR game. They just didn't bother to add the typical features back in because they were too busy trying to salvage the dumpster fire, make a quick buck and hoping that the Battlefield faithful would be too dumb to notice.

Is there any truth to that big rumor that Battlefield 6 or BF 2042 was originally going to be a battle Royale game?

I mean that's fucking insanity. What game director signed off on that being okay? That's not what we want. I want gigantic warfare with tanks and helicopters and boats and huge outdoor maps with two teams going for control and different classes

This is what happens when you let a board of directors design games. They are out of touch with what made battlefield great or even playable. Makes me sad honestly. Battlefield was the series that made me upgrade my PC to play it at the highest level. Not anymore.

Sad thing is, Battlefield has no real competition either.

Yeah there's a million shooter games released every year. But where are the other shooters with vehicles to operate in huge outdoor maps with two teams going at it.

Why is Battlefield the only game out like this? Why haven't other game companies made something similar and better?

Its sadder than you think. The reason 2042 is what it is, is because the devs wanted it to be more like war zone. They took a unique, loved, one of a kind shooter and attempted to turn it into something it isnt. The end result is the monstrosity we have now. The devs at dice turned so woke that even their game is queer.

I think it's because it's a massive effort to create something of this scale which equates to $$$, and you'd be competing with the Battlefield name which carries a lot of risk. Unfortunately it's all about the money and pleasing investors these days, so the big studios won't take those risks. It's much easier and cheaper to build on top of existing games (e.g. Fortnite, Apex) than it is to create a new IP.

that is the question I ask my self about many games. battlefield is difficult to make I guess. or devs/publishers are money hungry and can't make money off cosmetic items in a realistic war game. if people stop buying cosmetic items, more authentic games should come back.

World War 3 looked promising, but then that developer got bought out and taken over by the Warface publisher and the game turned to shit.

What's really insanity is that they would attempt to double down on the idea of a BF battle royale game after they already tried a battle royale mode in BF5 and it was a spectacular failure.

F Battle Royale games, those are just for kids playing on consoles that don't know any better.

And Battlefield is not and should never be turned into a BR type of game, if that's what they want to make, then just create a brand new IP with a new name for this game.

But always keep Battlefield about vehicles that people can jump in and operate like Tanks, Jeeps, Helicopters, Boats, etc.. always team vs team, tons of players, with objectives and goals to create teamwork, and play together in squads, etc...

The BF formula is tried and true and great. Why the heck would they ever in a million years change it to Battle Royale? Makes zero sense whatsoever.

Go look at the Steam player statistics. Two of the top five most played games right now are battle royales. And that's not even counting Borezone and Fortplight.

If you were some EA executive who only cares about maximizing company profits, why WOULDN'T you want to change it to a battle royale? They're the current cash cow hotness in PC gaming.

That'd be like Metallica changing from a metal band to pop teeny sounding hip hop band because it's more popular and a money maker.

Just wrong on so many levels, it's not who they are whatsoever.

Again, if Dice wants to make a Battle Royale game, ok, make a new game with a new name, and IP. But Battlefield needs to stay Battlefield, otherwise this happens, you piss off the core audience and they leave mad and upset that the game radically changed to something it's not.

I thought it was decent but the people playing battlefield aren't very intersted in BR. it was also behind a paywall, so it was bound to fail. they wanted to make firestorm free but couldn't due to legal reasons.

You know BF42 is oddly, with all of its problems and faults, is a game that has raised the bar. After playing the game for 90 hours or so now, I go back to other games and they are a decidedly boring affair compared.

Most others would not agree with you, evidenced by the playercount.

Personally, I went back to Planetside 2 after not playing for a few years and had more fun with that.

Wanted to play some BF2042 last night, start the game, and get put into the queue, waiting for players to join the server, waiting....waiting...couple minutes goes by, waiting...

Waited almost 3 minutes, and the server still wouldn't launch the game. Tried again, the same.

I exited and quit, them played some Destiny 2 and had fun.

Been having more fun playing BFV. This game is such a trainwreck lol.

If anything I have to thank BF2042 for getting me back into BF1. Sometimes it takes a turd to realize how good you had it back then.

Even if 2042 contains some semblance of "fun", the way the leadership is handling this launch makes me never want to play it again. Blaming the community for having "brutal expectations" rather than owning up to the mess that they created is disgusting.

It's the typical attitude from the big corporate world these days. There is zero accountability. You see this in more than just the gaming world. Responsibility for the failure is deferred to the customer.

Now image how good it could have been if they started over after BR didn't work and made a traditional Battlefield game.

I've gotten back into Destiny 2 recently as well. I tried Battlefield 2042 without having seen any reviews or read anything about it. Thankfully, I had access via EA's Play Pro service or I'd be extremely pissed off about paying for it. It's easily the worst AAA game I've played in a long time.

Yes, I know it has huge problems and not for everyone.

But man; raping the enemy team with the Nighthawk is fun.

Then today at the end of the match, saw the Orbital rocket blow up for the first time. Right in my face, on an HDR1400 monitor, searing my eyes, with surround sound blasting. Was glorious; no other game really provides such an experience.

I didn't play it long but aside from raw player count in a match I saw absolutely nothing remarkable about it that other games haven't done better. The graphics were nothing special. I hate the specialist nonsense (it's like Overwatch without the personality) and the menus / weapon customization is fucking horrible. On top of that it plays like discount Call of Duty. It has nothing to offer as far as I'm concerned.

Playercount isn't even impressive. Older BF's had servers modded for 128 players for years, and they ran just fine.

Supporting it out of the box is cool. I think its a terrible game, but I am giving it credit where credit is due.

Trolling? Raised what bar? I honestly can't think of one thing the game did better than previous games. I even think the 128 player count was a negative because they couldn't structure the maps to properly support 128 players, and the performance is hilariously bad.

The rocket exploding is cool, but no better than things like the skyscraper in Siege of Shanghai. Also it rarely explodes or launches. The beta was even better in this regard. And other than slightly different surroundings on that flag after the launch or explosion, it's just a gimmick.

He has to be trolling.

I can't be as enthusiastic as he is but there is a lot that I like about the game. But it's just horribly messy and broken overall and was released way too soon and at the worst time possible for an unfinished game (right before devs go on their regular vacation).

But for example I love the idea of upping the game to 128 players and the large maps (even though that means less fine details because of technical limitations) and I even think specialists are fine, as in - giving you total freedom to play however you like. But I HATE that they felt forced to write actual characters with a backstory and horrible voice lines instead of just generic soldiers with perks and maybe a couple options to customize the appearance (avoid the ridiculous clone war we have now). And I could do without some of the abilities - or at least they should be totally reworked with a long cooldown or limited use or something.

And yes to be clear I'm not really playing the game anymore either. Even before vacation I got tired with some of the bullshit and I just couldn't bring myself to tell my friends to buy it to play with me. I have a conscience.

Nah, specialists are in the top 3 for why this game is so bad. And its not just because they got rid of the classes, it's also because of how unbalanced the specialists are. One has a wingsuit that defies the laws of physics and the tech support guy can "hack" stuff?

And now the fragile devs cant take the pressure and criticisms being thrown at them so they lock a subreddit? Grow up you big babies.

Specialist, map design and atmosphere/tone are my top 3. The terrible UI is an honorable mention.

map design, computer and network performance are my issues. I'm not for or completely against the specialists abilities

Yeah atmosphere/tone is so weird. The story sets up this depressing ass post-apocalyptic world and then the gameplay is basically Saturday morning cartoon characters duking it out while spewing corny one liners. But I guess I shouldn't be sad. That's just how it works out sometimes.

The Irish Exodus short film was perfect. Give me that underwater map in TDM and we have a winner.
I'll never settle for a Battlefield game to not have a singleplayer again. SP sets the tone for the MP.
