Battlefield 2042

Why would you cut one of the if not the best feature from your previous game? I haven't even played any other shooter with as fun and fluid movement as BFV (there are probably a few, I haven't played everything).

Because most of the team that made BF1 and BFV and previous games had left by this point. And this game originally wasn't a standard battlefield game. There's a few vids out there that speculate it was some half assed f2p version of a battlefield game that mid way through development EA changed their minds about and had them rework it into a battlefield game of sorts.

This vid does a good look at the game and has a sum up at 21 mins:

Aye the fabled booster packs, which done a good job of splitting up the servers. Had some decent maps but was annoying when you were in a good server and suddenly a map pack map was next in line that you didn't have and ended up getting booted from the server.

Though they still had special forces as a cd, I made the mistake of buying that and only bothered with it on a few occasions, don't think it was all that popular. Plus performance in it was lacking compared to the base game.
forgot about Special Forces. I didn't play it much either.
We got BF2 for all the PC's and SF for 2 of them.

That vid is more than 2 years old and is not accurate anymore. There's been quite a few changes/overhauls since and while it's nowhere on the level of BF3/4, 2042 is actually in a decent state nowadays. At least to compared to when it was released. Being on sale for 5 bucks frequently, the playerbase has also picked back up.

BF2042 is way better now, I agree. I played it again a month ago. But it's still far less appealing than the older entries.

If BF4 still had a huge player base and not only a bunch of private servers with more or less mad admins, I'd simply stick to that. Or heck, BF3. It's very similar to BF4 but with a different map pool and I miss many of those.

Note that I never played BF2 so I can't relate to the nostalgia for that one, but I'm aware it had a lot of cool things to it too. Though it looks old, BF3 and 4 actually don't look bad, even in 2024.

Obviously the game has improved, but in terms of what the game was initially and all the issues they had during production as well as EA changing their minds mid dev cycle so the game was rejigged to be a more standard Bf game, I'd say its pretty accurate.

Yeah I fired the game back up after over a month or two of not touching it and meh. The heart did not grow fonder from absence.

Thankfully PC lives on longer. I wonder how many people were still using PS3/360 online now that the PS5/Series X is halfway through their cycle. BF4 still has a semi active community and if EA was smart they would be studying how it plays, in real time with real gamers, and learn from it.

I made a post about BF3, BF4 and Hardline servers being shut down, but it only effects the older gen of consoles and I thought it was for Pc's.
The article was clickbate and Flogger23m schooled me on it so I deleted the post.
Gotcha :).

I still play BF4 nearly every day on the pc....

Where did you play 2042? That was my favorite iteration of BF and used to dominate that game with my team so hard lol
