4870 @ the Egg

Hrmmm I ordered 2x4870's around 10am-ish PST from Bestbuy. I got four (?) emails saying thanks for the order and thankfully they all reference the same order number. I haven't gotten a "backordered" e-mail yet though. I hope this is a good sign... :p

I just canceled the order. I never got an email but they quietly changed the processing status to backordered even though it showed that it was available at the time I placed the order. I called and confirmed.

heh, selling like hotcakes eh? Jeebus who said that this $300 card is not worth it when compared to a $600 card because its weaker. Yeah if it is weaker its not by much, and certainly not worth a $300 premium

Yup........... backordered for me. Well crap, that's a pretty shitty way to run a business. Cancelling my order then...

Every time I see it I just get this at checkout: Item# N82E16814102748 is removed from shopping cart due to quantity limitation/insufficient stock. Some combo items might be affected by this.

Yup i placed a order for 2 Power Color ones. Diamond is out of stock now. Got excited so posted when it was in stock in the threads people were looking for these :p

My two 4870s shipped this afternoon, glad I cancelled that BB order (I'm assuming BB hasn't shipped diddly yet?).

And I'd like to give Newegg props. I had already ordered the rest of my components from the Egg and then had to make another order for the 4870s once I cancelled my first order from BB and then my second order from TD. I emailed them and tried to get them to add the two orders together and they wouldn't/couldn't, which I figured would be the case (and is understandable). But as compensation since they couldn't do what I wanted they're crediting me 25 bucks, which makes the shipping on the cards like 8 bucks, which is more than fair. :)

Boooooooo paper launches :( hopefully GDDR5 production will ramp up soon, and the 4870 will be more widely available.

If you look hard enough you can still find them. I watched the powercolor go from in stock to out of stock in 20min last night on newegg.

I'm still debating on one.

well, i guess it technically is a paper launch... ATI launched it the 25 jun, but i think the 4870 was actually specified to be available July 8th, right? so paper launch was intended... So if we can actually buy it now... that's good? haha. a few quotes below, but if you search for it you can find more.

from Anand:
"The Radeon HD 4870 is scheduled for widespread availability in early July, although AMD tells us that some cards are already in the channel."

from TGDaily:
"The 4850 version will be announced on June 23 and become available on June 25, according to our sources, followed by the 4870 on July 8 and the 4870 X2 in mid-August."

lol paper launch my ass, my card will be here monday...........lol they prolly didn't let them stock pile like they did with the 4850 and are shipping them as they make them

that's what i'm saying man, it was supposed to be a paper launch but isn't one (to our benefit)! bad thing is ati gets a bad rap for supposedly not delivering, but they technically have 'til july 8...
so we should all chill out when we don't find them in stock now... hopefully they'll get more and more plentiful.

Inq says 60k+ are headed to retailers next week before the month ends so 4870's should be plentiful soon

I wouldn't say it was a paper launch, but it sure is not a plenty supply launch. Retailers it seems are only getting a handful of the cards in at a time and selling them in minutes. But like you said their are plenty GTX260's to go around :)

Well they basically didn't stockpile 4870's while 4850's are in plentiful supply so whatever 4870's are being sent are being eaten up almost immediately. For instance, FXVideocards was receiving shipments of 10-20 at a time and they would be gone within a few hours.
