The 4850 is meant to be $199. It currently does sell for that.
The 4870 is meant to be $299. Whether it'll sell at that remains to be seen.

It appears that you're completely new the world of computer hardware. As such, you apparently need to be informed that there is virtually never a 1:1 increase in performance per dollar as you go to higher end equipment.

There's a good reason why you don't have 1:1 scaling with performance.
That's Absolute Performance. That alone has value because a card that can do 30FPS smooth is more than twice as valuable as a card that can do 15FPS smooth.

thats funny, both were free for me.
Plus the dual slot cooler of the 4870 may eliminate the need to purchase aftermarket cooling for a 4850. So there's another few $$ saved.
But sources indicate that the 4870 runs even HOTTER than the 4850.
