4870 @ the Egg

wow, there is some lamer who posted a review of the item on newegg saying he should of stuck with his GX2, 0/67 on his comment so far, how long does it usually take newegg to delete comments like that?

edit: they deleted it in the time it took me to post this comment, and someone replaced it with something already.
 
yup, ordered mine around 9am pst at BB and got the backorder e-mail at noon. Everyone else in the same boat?
 
I wouldn't necessarily panic about BB putting orders on backorder unless you absolutely must have this card tomorrow-- I've ordered things from them on release day, get a backorder notice, check the status online, and it'll say "Usually ships in 0-1 days", and it'll ship either that day or the next. It seems to be a quirk in their inventory system on the day of release.

Of course, if you have to have a card tomorrow, it may not work out, but BB has a pretty good deal (in terms of free shipping+MSRP), and given how fast they got 4850s out, I have a feeling the 4870s won't be too far behind.

Makes sense. I'm not in a panic and can wait it out. Just wondering if it was across the board or if anyone actually had their order go through.

Yep, same story here. I ordered 2 of them at around 11 am Central and got the backorder notice a couple hours ago. I'm just going to stick it out with Best Buy. That way if crossfire does not work out as well as I would like I can return the card to the store.

I'm pretty pumped about getting these too. I have $1100 of parts on a Wishlist on newegg waiting for BB to ship my 4870s.

Well that puts me a little more at ease. I was pissed when receiving the backorder notice, because I passed up opportunities at newegg and zzf. we will see :p
 
Are they planning on a 4870 1GB version? I haven't seen any mention of this....

If the GDDR5 quantity problems are really holding the cards back, I don't think we will see 1GB versions for a while yet. Not when they can sell two 512 MB cards instead.
 
1GB is a sure thing, the question is when. I imagine it will be sometime in July. They're supposed to have full production, supply and stock on the 4870 on July 8. If they have enough GDDR5 to make that many cards, they should also have enough to start making some 1GB versions around the same time.
 
how can pre-orders be out of stock? lol. I doubt anything is shipping from any company in the month of June.
 
talked to customer support and was explained to it is in stock and will be no delay in shipping.

I got really lucky, pushed the button at about 9 AM Pacific time and ordered 2 4870s for my Crossfire rig!!!!

Now I have to sell my 8800 GTXs......and thanks to the low prices on all these cards....my "investment" ain't worth that much.:(
 
ordered and was verified within 10minutes. Can't wait to upgrade from this x700. lawl

tbh you'd be better off waiting for the 4870X2, I think... But when you've got the itch, you've got the itch I guess.

could be worse. could be like those of us who saw the best buy deal with the 4850's ($150 each) and grabbed their wallet and ran out the door, then coming back with 2 HD4850's for $300

I was at BB with my wallet before I talked myself down. Only the fact that I'm on an IP35 Pro stopped me.

yeah i was on a ip35 pro. got the cards and then realized needed a new motherboard. got my abit ix38 quad gt yesterday :cool:
 
I love newegg.. It hasn't touched anybodies systems and yet there are customer reviews. :rolleyes:
 
Hrmmm I ordered 2x4870's around 10am-ish PST from Bestbuy. I got four (?) emails saying thanks for the order and thankfully they all reference the same order number. I haven't gotten a "backordered" e-mail yet though. I hope this is a good sign... :p

I couldn't stand waiting.....especially after I saw how well the Crossfire pairs did......sometimes beating a 280!!!

I bought a Gigabyte X48 DS4 2 weeks ago just for this opportunity. I hope ATI doesnt let me down. If this stinks......well I'll try two X2s in Crossfire. Haven't done a Quad yet....hehehehehehe.:eek:
