$2500 5090 I’m out

Nvidia high valuation is a world problem ? Many would say it is sign of a superb good.
My retirement accounts aren't complaining. As long as Jensen isn't selling these to some shell company next door I couldn't care less.

What's funny is that he wasn't a wealthy trust-fund kid. He is just single, has cheap rent and no other hobbies. When a new "Best" came out, he went out and bought it like he was renewing a yearly membership. No excitement or show-offyiness. in his mind, if it wasn't the top product, it wasn't the full thing. and he wanted the "Full" thing.
This is a good argument why NV may not want to make a gaming card that's "too good". People like having the best. The higher the price the more people you price out of the best. Then they don't buy the top card. It turns into something like can't afford a Lamborghini, a Corvette is more than they want to spend, but a Mustang sounds pretty good so they buy that. If the Corvette was the best they just might buy one, but it's not so they do something sensible and more in line with their budget.

At the end of the day it's about maximizing total profits, not profit per card. NV and every other company selling a range of products tries to do that. They build a product stack at a range of price points and try to set it up to maximize total profit. Rigging the system so single young gamers who live with their parents can have "the best" may well be the path to maximum gaming vid card profits.

The more people say they’re out, the better. Get out, stay out. I want a 5090.

… and of course the demand will far exceed the supply, leading me to believe that all those folks who publicly state they’re out are probably already out to begin with and are actually just pissed off that they’re out and are attempting to regain a sense of self worth by sneering at people who are in.

Just my opinion, of course. LOL.

That could be true lot of people would not get excited and not buy the second best (at the same performance, same price planned) if something better exist.

If they do one, they would need to do it like the titan RTX vs 2080ti (or previous Titan), very different branding, pricing, look, naming, so the 2080ti buyer can still fell like they are buying the best gaming card even if they are not, by making the better card not look as a gaming one even if nothing technically changed in that regard.

I'm with you the majority who keep saying they won't bother with a 5090 because they don't need it and are totally satisfied with their 4090 will end up buying it once the $2500 price point is proven to be pure bullshit. The excuse will of course be "b-b-b-but I thought it was $2500 and since it's not, I'm now in for one"

I am not happy to hear about a $2500 price tag. But lets wait and see, This 3090 I got on launch day has done me well. But $2500 is a tough sell.....But lets wait and see. Way too much speculation right now.

But, Nvidia is like Apple. They will fleece their customers and they know people will buy it regardless.

Don't buy their top of the line then. Of course we all want it, but these things are no longer strictly focused on gaming. There will be use cases for them but no need. Buy the card that fits what you're trying to do. Now if the cheapest card becomes 700, then I completely understand.

I have a 4090 and will try to get a 5090 on release... I'd like to play CP2077 again and replace my 2x1440p G9 with the 2x4k G9.

I'll give you something else interesting that you should consider. How much was bought by China to front load their supply because they knew sanctions were coming?

My gut feeling is that the boom in stock price occurred after the sanctions were already in place. I don't have the quarterly revenue for those years in front of me though I'm on my phone at the moment.

When you read quarterly revenues, they are often in fiscal year and not actual year.

Sanction were at the latest announced august 2022, some started now, other took until October

Nvidia was around it lowest point and if the next quarter dropped because the previous were China hyperboosted it would have shown right away (and as long sanction are still active, it is not like oversupply in China change things):

How about how much was bought by China's affiliates but never actually exported? Just sitting in some neutral countries data centers and being 100% dedicated to China's processing requirements?

All this is to say, gamers are a drop in the bucket.
Right. I don't even think they care about the gaming market. They make hardware for corporate and gamers can use the hardware might as well sell it to them.

Gamers are still important to Nvidia at some level because they can make up 10-25% of their revenue in any given quarter. They clearly aren't AS important as they used to be, but any company would certainly miss that percentage of revenue in any given financial quarter. LukeTbk linked the revenue by market slide earlier and there's newer ones available below.

They will care about the gaming market as soon as the AI market no longer prints money, just like they cam crawling back to gamers once Crypto was no longer the golden goose.

It's just that right now, every square mm of silicon sold to a gamer instead of an AI-crazy datacentre is hundreds, if not thousands of dollars lost. that's hundreds of dollars per square millimetre not hundreds of dollars per chip.

So every RTX video card that they sell is losing them money compared to a datacentre chip.

We're lucky, given the nature of venture capitalism and fiduciary duty, that Nvidia is selling video cards to gamers AT ALL.

All I really hear is scalped to 4k and short supply and supply chain issues. Get ready. You know it's comin.

If scalpers can sell them for 4K, it means Nvidia could sell them at $4K. if they could, they would.
In my opinion, there is going to be no supply again. Causing shortages and cards going to very high amounts. My whole point is I bet your ass that nv is going to state that they are having supply chain issues and short supply of cards. Which will cause a scarcity again and raise the value of the cards for gamers.
My opinion only here.

No, you are 100% right. Nvidia will absolutely talk about supply issues, and charge a $2500 MSRP, which means high-end partner cards will go for over $3500

I'm pretty sure they already have been talking about supply issues. Techspot reported they were saying there was going to be shortages in February, and then had yield issues with the early batches of Blackwell that supposedly just got fixed.

Coupled with the rumor of another 12GB 5070 mid range card (for $700-800). I'll probably wait for mid 2025 before I reassess a GPU upgrade.

The thing is with me, my display only goes up to 120hertz. I have a C2 and my 4080 already gives me, in the games I play, 120fps at 4k with max quality. So I really have no need to upgrade until games THAT I PLAY, cripple or go below 60fps. 4080 does the job for now. I am in no need. Plus I am not going to play the website game of putting the card in my cart and have it magically out of stock in 1 second.

I'd rather have a stable last gen pc instead of wasting my precious time on sitting in the house 24/7 clicking on links hoping I can beat the script kiddies..

scalper are way more mobile price wise than company tend to be able to be.

Say there 2 weeks where you could sell that GPU $4k, Nvidia selling them for 4K 2 weeks than reducing price will piss of the purchaser, the press will be terrible and so on.

And nvidia can have an much higher volume to sell than scalper has.

Say there 1,000 5090
700 are sold to regular gamers, 300 are sold to scalper, the fact that there was 340 people ready to pay $4000 for the gpu (30 got it at msrp, 10 were not able to buy from scalper) 300 did, does not mean that there was 1,000 of them.

I get what you're saying, in that just because some cards DO sell at higher prices does not mean ALL cards would have sold at those prices, but I'm saying that Nvidia will make sure they get the biggest cut, and leave not much margin for scalpers, not out of any moral reason, just that every dollar a scalper makes is a dollar that Nvidia could have made.

That's why I'm pretty adamant about Nvidia charging MORE than $2000 for the 5090. They want to BE the scalper

Hopefully you're correct and demand won't be so insane this time around.
I got a feeling that demand will exceed the supply at most prices

JFC....the S&P is already dominated by FANG. I need to rebalance my portfolio to not be so over exposed to Bay Area companies.....this is stupid.

I'm not denying AI. But blaming crypto for all the world's problems is getting old.
There are still dinguses that buy cheap land in Arkansas, install a cut-rate datacenter with a bunch of asics and gpus to mine bitcoin with cheap power. The noise unites the rednecks and the black people together in hate for these.

Yet people blindly believe it anyway :ROFLMAO:
Its not outside the realm of possibility, but definitely isn't fact at this stage. The 4090 was a $1599 MSRP card, and you could in-fact get it for that during much of its life, but the market has also pushed those closer to $2k at many points and they still sold like hot cakes, so I wouldn't be surprised if Nvidia takes that fact into account when pricing the 5090. The market interested in 90-class GPUs at this point isn't pinching pennies over $1700 or $2000 for a card.

Sad trend really. The "90-class" was functionally a rebrand of what cards like the 1080 Ti and 2080 Ti were to their respective product stacks in their generations. Nvidia sure is good at rebranding and re-pricing and the halo product buyers sure eat it up.

If the rumors that the 5080 and 5070 remain 16GB and 12GB respectively, I think that will be a dumb buy. They'll almost certainly do a Super or Ti release of each once they can mass produce with 3GB GDDR7 modules and can do a 24GB 5080 Super / Ti and 18GB 5070 Super / Ti.

Seeing the emerging trend of game devs using tech like frame gen and DLSS to get lazy about optimizing their own games, I really don't like the look of a repeat 16GB / 12GB 80 and 70 class card. Especially if they get a price increase as well.

Toys are expensive. Don't want to play? Then don't pay. For most, a 5090 would be supreme overkill. For the few who aren't in this boat, they're probably willing to pay. If you don't want the price of graphics cards to keep skyrocketing then quit buying them at these prices. It really is that simple.

I’m good with my 4090 and 4080 for my 3-D rendering I’m just gonna set up a Q system and have that shit render while I’m offshore working most of the time I know I make more than $100,000 a year but at $2500 for a 5090 I’m out

More law as dead reporting that’s what the new price is gonna be $2000-$2500 and they’re leaning closer to 2500 and there’s not even any games that really need a 5090 Jesus
I was out after the 3000-series. A 3080 was the last NV I could stomach and I'm all AMD now. People even considering $2,500 or more to "play games" have more money than sense.

Yep, I might be buying my 6090 with silver or gold rounds :ROFLMAO:

Seriously though, anyone putting a 5090 on their 26% APR credit card has... issues. And sadly there's going to be plenty of us 'Muricans who will be doing just that. Priorities and such.
Same people asking for loan forgiveness. People make bad decisions. What are you gonna do?
