Basically is there a tv card that can encode mpeg-4 without eating up many cpu cycles? I miss a lot of football(soccer there ;)) matches while working and mpeg-2 I am not happy with so I want an mpeg-4 hardware encoding card to record these games while I go about my work on my PC...
My budget...
thanks for the replies, it took me a while to browse em all though ;)
ok i'll let you know if all goes according to plan, I will start dloading FreeBSD at once but at 256k I can't advise anyone to hold their breath
:(
edit : @ [H]EMI 426 : I liked ur page man, although I must confess...
I knew you would come up first with a reply, have you thought of making a sticky guide for BSD newbies like me to save yourself time on the long run ? :p Because if I go on to install FreeBSD, I might be a PITA for you with more q's each day. :D
Thanks for the info, this older machine I have...
It seems to me that more and more people are switching to FreeBSD and not just from Linux, but from Windows as well. I don't really know much about FreeBSD but as far as I know, FreeBSD claims to be better in security and binary compatibility. First of all, I would like to know how BSD is safer...
If you work for Microsoft, which I sense from your tone, that actually explains why their products are the way they are. If you have been reading the whole thread, my first post was as a reply to eeyrjmr's quesiton on why would they castrate opengl performance and limit opengl to 1.4. What I...
Well, the strip is funny, however the poster is obviously not an adult so I'll let him get away with it. OpenGL is the platform that provided us games like Quake3, Doom3, RTCW and many more so if you don't care about it not being used anymore that's your problem. I see immense danger in one...
I'm not so sure about this but I believe M$ makes a lot of money from companies using DirectX for games development. OpenGL might be considered an alternative (that means rival/archenemy in monopoly language) and by reducing performance of OpenGL games, they might push(force) companies into...
how's it fully customizable?? If it's like XP where all you do is change window frames and colors, i believe there is no point in it. My understanding of fully customizble is like fluxbox, icewm etc.. under linux, where you customize almost everything possible so you can end up with something...
if your idea of multitasking is like "it's cool to be able to surf and download while running a game" don't bother. I can't believe how many people jumped on the X2 bandwagon and never will be using that second core to any good. While some people claim there will be games and other software...
AMD should drop this pr rating all together, it's stupid, confusing and worst of all demeaning in the sense that it seems they have to justify the performance of their processors in terms of Intel's GHz models all the time. It leads to distrust in buyers also, for example, was an Athlon XP 3200+...
the only time i used both were when me and my cousin wanted to play warhammer and did not have a router so I connected to his laptop using the second lan while kept my download going on on the first. Other than that I found dual lan to be pretty much useless.
Yes it does, but it's not sata2 if that's of any concern to you.
to render... I can read dude, I know what he is asking about, last time I checked we were free to recommend hardware/software based on our experiences  and in my experience, since I never used the second network...
well I got the deluxe version only coz the store ran out of A8N-SLI non-deluxe boards. I can tell you this, if you don't need the extra network controller and 4 sata provided by deluxe there is not really any need to buy either of them. Save the money, it's the same board in any other sense, and...
AFAIK AMD is able to sell pretty much all that they produce. It is the amount of cpus they can (or rather can't) produce that determines their market share. OEMs otherwise would have already jumped on the AMD wagon and never looked back, since AMD has the better all around line-up in budget and...
i don't know about psu but i monitor cpu temps using pc probe and running prime for about an hour. No errors, goes up to 45 degrees maximum, nf4 chipset gets about that hot, 43-45 degrees and gpu is the only other component besides psu that I can not monitor temp of. I will run 3d mark 2003...
my computer is stable though prime for hours and so are my psu voltages. In intense games sometimes(frequently recently) the game shuts down and sometimes my computer restarts, is this a sign of gpu overheating?? Can reapplying thermal paste be a solution???
no it's not, not all watercooling setups are good for oc'ing unfortunately. the flow, radiator, water volume are all key factors for proper cooling and coolermaster just followed what I believe to be an ugly trend in making cheap and not so succesful line of watercooling kits. (thermaltake...
my guts tell me to wait a bit more on the turions, we are likely to see more notebooks from different brands with turion processors inside. MSI has a model upcoming very soon which is better for gaming since it has a X700 GPU, Asus and HP are also ok for daily use. My problem is that turion...
hope this is not old news but check this beast out, supports even dual cores ie. X2s and is equipped with 6800 ultra or x800xt which is sick by any standarts. I almost forgot to mention 17" LCD WSXGA/WUXGA display. I know, it is difficult to justify this notebook truly as mobile due its weight...
I went into the bios set vcore 1.45, set htt multiplier 4x, set htt frequency 245 and booted up windows, however sandra and everest display my fsb speed as 2x735=1470 MHz, how is this possible? I believe my fsb should be 245x4 = 980, what is wrong with this picture, any help appreciated.
thx...
My father owns a dell inspiron p4-m 1.7 GHz,1 GB DDR266, it has slight problems with display other than that it's fine. I guess their high-end laptop line just makes the cut and lasts longer than lower priced ones.
I just bought this cooler, my Winnie 3000+ now idles at 32 and load temp is 40 when using at 2100rpm (claims 27dB, I ain't no sound expert, can't confirm). Comes with fan control and works with almost all sockets. Installation was pretty easy, no motherboard removal was necessary. Perhaps should...
I see multitasking benchmarks of the X2's, Pentium D's, Opteron's and Xeon's all over the net. So many different tech sites have as many different "multitasking scenarios" and these "scenarios" they claim, should be reflective of the performance of the processors under regular multitasking...
If i can afford to buy some decent sized aluminium case this summer, i will. Other than that I have around 500s to spend on graphics card(s), cooling (entry level water) and perhaps some new ram. Who knows, I might just make it if I can get by with bread and water. I'm glad someone shares my...
I wish I could :( , my case is an utter mess right now, the cables of the bluestorm psu are all over the place and I can't even see my ram let alone remove it. I really should buy a bigger case, like stacker or Lian-Li V1200. I will look it up when I re-wire the whole case and perhaps then, I...
funy thing, it's regular twinmos dual channel 1gb kit. Initially they were to be just a temporary solution, until I got some a-data vitesta ddr600 or anything close, but now I suddenly got the urge to push my luck. maybe 2-2-2-6-1 with vDIMM 2.8 is possible with these sticks.
edit : I think...
The Memory is originally designed for the following timings 2,5-3-3-8-2 so I decided to lower the command rate to 1 and cas to 2.0 but I had to raise the vDIMM by 0.1, should I stick with these settings or try and go further?? is 2.7 vDIMM too much btw, should I get some ramsinks for my...
update : do not post any replies, I have solved the problem by flashing to the newest firmware 05, anyone having problems for the same reason can pm me, i will give them the link for flasher utility and the rom. .
My DVD-ROM Samsung TSSCorp TS-H352A can not read DVDs I burn with Nero 6.3.1.18 and my Asus DRW-1604P but it can read DVDs my friends burn for me, I don't get it it gives me the disk structure corrrupt etc... or a similar error I can't remember exactly now, pls help me resolve this problem as...
Speak of a bargain, check this PC. Price 1369 shipping included. I sure would like to see a review of this beauty on HardOCP, it was about time I see a review of a PC I can buy; location wise not budget wise... Velocity Micro, Falcon NW etc... are only for US customers since we can't buy them...
I don't know whether anyone else brought it up yet but I sure would like to see all systems set up as dual-boot so we can see the compatibility of the systems with various OS's, by various OS's I mean Linux :D I always check my hardware for Linux compatibility before I buy , check how it...
very stable, tons of features (8 sata ports, fw, dual gbit lan) overclocking not great but HTT263 is what i've managed so far with crappy twinmos ram. One problem though, the chipset fan is loud, rpms around 9000 and is a must to replace it since mine is already dying on me I've bought mine just...
If it's about production capacity I can understand, but what happens to all those chips taped out that can't hit 2.2 or 2.4 GHz, or can they all hit 2.2-2.4 GHz? Maybe AMD is stocking them to sell later, I don't know.
An X2 1.8GHz under 275$ is what I hope for because I need multitasking and speed for single threaded apps like games don't mean much to me these days I couldn't care less about 10-15 fps more.
