Since I've been using the same cheap 2.1 Logitech setup for probably close to the last 8-9 years I figure it's time to upgrade. Main usage will be gaming with a bit of music as well (mainly electronic, hip-hop and other bass heavy music). I was originally planning on going the active speaker...
I currently have a Dell U2311H and am looking to upgrade to a 27" 1440 display. Main usage will be general web browsing, productivity and gaming. I don't consider myself a hardcore gamer by any means so having the absolute fastest monitor isn't a requirement. I'm mainly looking for a happy...
As the title says, I'm still running my old E8400 build and it's been in need of an upgrade for quite some time now and I'm finally able and ready to take the plunge.

I've been having issues lately with my WD 2TB Green drive, specifically read errors, so I decided to see what showed up in HD Tune.
Here's the result:
Also, under the "Health" tab it says there is 237 unstable sectors. So I guess it's pretty safe to say it's time to replace the drive...
As the title states I'm looking for a mousepad for my G9x. From what I've read the G9x works better with a hard surface and I'd honestly prefer one with more glide anyway. I've looked at the Ratpadz, but I feel the thickness would put me off.
So what do you guys suggest for something thin...
I've had an E8400 for a while now but never got around to tinkering with it. Now I want to, but definitely need some better cooling for it. Price isn't a huge concern as long as the price is too much. $30-$50 is fine, while $60+ is not.
Any suggestions? I've been out of the loop for a while.
A friend recently came to me looking for a new PC. He's not going to be doing very resource intensive things basically web browsing, office stuff, some video... basic tasks. However, he still wanted something that'll last him a while and perform well.
Here is what I came up with...
I'm currently running an E8400, P5Q Pro motherboard, and 4GB of G.Skill RAM in a Silverstone FT02 case. I'm currently running stock cooling on the CPU, so I'm looking for something new to help me finally overclock this thing. Looking around it seems there's quite a few coolers in the $50+ range...
It's been a while since I've done any overclocking, so I expect this is something really stupid, but I have a 4890 and I'm trying to overclock it using MSI Afterburner. However, I've noticed as I up the clock speed in it, the GPU doesn't actually change (yes, I do hit apply). According to MSI...
Currently I own an Antec Super Lanboy. Originally it was fine since I was running onboard video, a micro ATX motherboard, air cooling, one hard drive etc. However, that was years ago and I currently have three hard drives, a full size motherboard, an HD 4890, a Corsair TX750 with much longer...
I'm looking to upgrade from my old 22" Mitsubishi Diamond Plus 200 CRT. I'm looking for a 23"-24" LCD in around the $200-$300 price range, but I would consider going over $300 a bit for a quality monitor, just not too much. As far as usage is concerned, I am going to be gaming so having a...
Since I've had my Super Lanboy for a few years I figured it's time for a new case. Originally I was looking at full tower cases, but quickly realized it wouldn't be very practical due to the size, so I'll probably have to go with a mid tower. I plan on just air cooling right now with a single...
After having my Antec Super Lanboy for a few years I think it's time to upgrade. I've been looking around a bit and have pretty much decided I wanted a full tower case and my budget is a max of $200. I don't *need* a full tower case exactly, but I think it would be a nice thing to have, allowing...
Is there any real benefit to setting your overclocked speeds in the BIOS using something like NiBiTor and re-flashing it as opposed to just using something like ATITool? I figure the 700MHz is 700Mhz, regardless of which way it is set, but I was having a conversation with somebody else about it...
A friend of mine has an HP a305w and has decided to upgrade to a socket 939 Opteron build. He plans on buying an Opteron 165 and a Biostar TForce 6100-939. He's not a gamer so he's going to be using onboard video. Currently the HP has only a 250w Bestec unit, so he's looking to upgrade his PSU...
Currently I have the rig in my sig with onboard video (though the Sempron is now running @ 2.62GHz. I'm thinking about getting a cheap new card to allow me to play some newer games. Not at high settings or anything, but good enough to actually enjoy them. I'm really not looking at spending any...
I posted this at Anandtech and Ars as well.
As the title says, I'm looking to buy a 512MB stick of 168-Pin PC-133 to put in an old Dell Dimension 2300.
This is probably a really newbish question, but oh well.
I know when it came to A64 overclocking RAM that overclocked well wasn't really that important. For example, if you were on a budget, you could get away with just buying cheap value RAM and running a divider. Thus, the memory didn't...
We have an old Dell Dimension 2300 as the "family computer" and today I went to dust it out and somehow the heatsink seemed to have broke off of the bracket. Both pieces that the heatsink connects to on one side broke right off. I guess it was having overheating problems previously, and I guess...
Specs are in my sig. Recently I decided to try to lap my CPU to get better cooling performance and I guess I really needed it because now I get this...
I know S754 is pretty old now, but it's what I have to use right now so I figure I'd try to get as much performance out of it as...
Well, next year is college and I need to buy a laptop. Any suggestions as to what I should be looking for? I'd like to give you guys a budget, but without knowing how much books are going to cost and other expenses, it's hard to say. Basically, I don't want to spend too much, but I don't want to...
I plan on upgrading my computer and one of the things that need upgrading is RAM. I plan on buying a 3600+ X2 and am looking at buying 2GB of DDR2, but am on a pretty tight budget and am looking for something cheap, but will still allow a bit of overclocking.
What do you guys suggest?
I am looking to upgrade basically my whole PC, including the video card. Mainly I will be playing Oblivion, but I'd like to play other newer games as well. Considering I'm coming from onboard video, even a cheap video card will be a huge upgrade and I don't really need to run everything at...
My current specs are as follows:
AMD Sempron 64 2800+
Biostar TForce 6100-754
Corsair Value Select 1GB
Western Digital Caviar 80GB
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB
Fortron AX400-PN
NEC 3550A
Antec Super Lanboy
Lately I have not been happy with its performance at all. 1GB of RAM for...
The only dividers I have in my BIOs are 100, 133, 166, and 200. I'd like to use a 183 divider so I can run my RAM closest to its max speed, but the option isn't available in my BIOS. I've tried using A64Tweaker, but everytime I change the Memfrequency it just freezes and I have to reboot my...
I made a topic in the cooling forum asking for an HSF and I asked this question, however, since it deals with case modding to I think I might be able to get more or even better answers here. My temps are much higher then I would like now so my plan to to totally transform my PC to have better...
I have been overclocking the rig in my sig and I really think my temps are holding me back. At 1.65v and 285x8 it runs 55C w/ F@H running. With other things it even goes over that close to 60C. Right now I am only running stock cooling so I guess that is why. I am a student and do not have a lot...
Just recently I overclocked the computer in my sig and it seems perfectly stable. It runs Memtest86+ for 3 hours, SuperPi 32M, Windows Memtest for around 12 hours, 3DMark, and SP2004 for 24 hours. All without errors or any problems. Now just today I simply open up a video in MPC and it randomly...
I have the system in my sig and am trying to overclock it. However, if I change the voltage or HT link multi or something like that Vista refuses to boot. It will get to the log in screen and ask me for a password, but ussually goes to a black screen after that. It's weird because I haven't even...
Here is his specs:
Athlon 2400+ @ 2.15GHz
Soyo Dragon Plus KT266A
1GB Patriot DDR400 @ 2-3-2-5
BFG 7800GSOC @ 505/1.46
120GB, 15GB, DVD, CD-RW
What do you guys think would be the best option for him?
My current system specs are in my sig.
I am looking to buy a new video card for some of the new games that are coming out (Oblivion in particular) and I have my eye on the 7800GT since there are arou nd $250 right now. Is this the best choice in that price rang? Will I be CPU limited? Will...
My specs are in my sig. It has been running Prime95 for 14 hours without errors with and HTT of 275, CPU at 2.2GHz w/ 1.4v, Memory using 166MHz divider and HT multi at 3x.
As most of you already know I built a budget Sempron rig and "settled" with just Corsair VS. I bought them and it turned out that I was lucky enough to get some with UCCC chips.
I am not done messing with this RAM, but since UCCC typically does best @ 3-4-4-8 w/ 2.7v-2.8v I thought I would...
I just bought a Mitsubishi Diamond Plus 200 22" CRT and it is great except for one thing. There are two horizontal lines going right across the screen. One near the bottom and one near the top. These can only be seen when there is a light background. With a dark background they are not there...
