Just read this tidbit over at CNN:
Look at the relative overclock they acheived with cooling down to absolute zero - 200Ghz! The article further goes on to say wireless networks built on chips using these transistors could move entire DVDs in seconds. The future looks very nice indeed.
There was some talk about AMD starting a reverse threading setup on their dual core processors, where each core handles single threaded instructions simultaneously. This was supposed to increase processor speed in single threaded apps (most games) when using dual core processors. Since this...
Sorry for another OT post, but it never really hit me until now that I'm glad we tossed the tea into the harbor.
I'm not flaming - I highly regard the UK.
I think the reason games today aren't made as difficult as some NES games were is that they want to make them fun. I realize its not an MMO, but has anyone here actually seen the ending of TMNT on the NES? That isn't fun, and noone likes to be stuck in the same area for a long time because its...
I'm running it on my 22" Diamond Pro CRT and it looks as nice as any computer game on this monitor. I only wish the max res was higher than 1280*1024. Frankly the VGA cable is a bit on the expensive side though.

Reading through the content on this site will probably take you into Sunday... there's info on both nVidia hardware and how to code to make use of it.
Terra's been a good contributor to this forum for much longer than you have - go kick your dog or something instead of being angry in the forum.
pxc answered the last part, so there's no more to add here.
I used to WC both CPU and GPU but decided to go with air for the latest setup. I found that high-end air can give temps that are similar to decent water cooling, albeit a bit noisier. Setting up a WC line is fun, although I wouldn't bother with it again unless I had some nice (expensive) WC...
A couple of days ago my dog knocked my PSP off of a coffee table onto a hardwood floor several feet below it (were talking some velocity here too). Only thing that happened was the battery and its cover flew off of it. I half expected a busted system but nothing happened to it. Its...
Desktop/notebook processors have to be x86 in order to use Windows. Both Intel and AMD also have patent-sharing agreements which allows the other company to make processors using technology/instruction sets they didn't develop themselves. IIRC this agreement goes back quite awhile to when AMD...
I'd say 2.6 is pretty safe too, provided you have efficient cooling. The FSB will need to be fairly high to reach 2.6 (~289) or higher with a 9x multiplier.
I wouldn't try for 2.6 right away, but instead try to find the limits of the individual components (mobo, CPU and then RAM). You may...
Come on now, the hard launch standard was set by nVidia with the 7800 launches. They also publicly stated the GTX 512 would be a limited edition launch in short supply. Can't be too surprised when they told us it would be that way.
I'm sure that ideally the 7900s would be available at...
The rig is in my signature. For some reason Futuremark misread my GPU core clock.

I'm running at 1600*1200 2xAA 4xAF, no soft shadows and everything else at maximum. There are some choppy spots but overall gives a very good playing experience.
I've been thinking this for awhile now. The Hector Ruiz article stated - from Ruiz himself - that he's no marketing guru. They really need someone to compliment his management and to market AMD a heck of alot better.
Thats an interesting thought. I'd think that there will probably be enough headroom that dual-core optimized software won't use all the CPU cycles, still leaving enough room for multiple DC-optimized applications to run without a hitch.
Hexus didn't overclock the AMD CPU, probably becasue the article was focused on the Presler core. At least people can look at the review and compare how the CPU in the Dell Renegade would rate to other stock CPU speeds.
Oh geez, I guess this question was posted in 3 subforums. I was...
^^^ I'd say its all good, since his other thread was locked and DougLite directed him into this subforum.
As far as the processor goes, it looks to be pretty comparable to a X2 4800+ when overclocked to 4.26Ghz. See this Hexus review for the benchies...
Ok there's an aftermarket cooler on the GT. With such good temps you should be ok and may even be able to step it up a bit. 425 is a great OC for this card though.
425/1.1 was about the max of my old 6800GT. Aside from what seems to be random stuttering in games (likely due to power regulation problems at high speeds on the GT PCB) there's not much harm that can be done. As long as temps are kept in check and voltage hasn't been modded, I don't think it...
Why do you think its the drivers? It didn't work before the drivers were updated. If you believe the drivers are at fault, try another set. I understand the 83.10s are out.
Edit: sig changed
Eh? He gave you the right answer.
The CPU speed becomes less of a factor compared to GPU speed at high resolutions w/ AA and AF enabled, thus even a GTX could be used with a 3500+. At 1024x768 the CPU will be the bottleneck, as would almost any CPU paired with a GTX at that res.
Your board probably cannot run at FSB 300Mhz. My Ultra-D is stable up to 288Mhz using SATA 1+2 (which is probably the limiting factor, but haven't gotten around to checking yet).
You'll have to take memory speeds into account as well. I'm surprised that the PC3200 was good for booting at 240, but not at all surprised that it won't boot at 260. The best thing to do would be to learn about the BIOS settings and set a memory divider. A really good A64 overclock guide can...
I have an XFX and love it. I'm not very sensitive to fan noise, and feel like my card is quiet. The bar is also really nice if you're not planning on replacing the cooling and have a case window, as there's a lit XFX logo on it thats visible when the card is installed.
Shorehn, why would...
Its probably not the vid card or memory, but instead the dual core X2. I experienced the same brief freezes in FEAR and installing the Microsoft dual core CPU hotfix and the AMD X2 driver completely took care of it. A quick search for dual CPU & games will show that there's actually a bunch of...
Since its already clocked at 470 you might not get much more out of it. My GT, with stock cooling, will clock up to ~475Mhz before I see problems during games. And the plateau you mention is real. A chart of performance vs. clock speeds would look like a staircase, as a range of 5 Mhz or so...
The silverstone is nice and does the job very well at 1/3 to 1/2 max on the controller. I've never turned it up all the way yet as there's never been any need. It gets my vote.
