Oh yes, many moons ago. To answer your question, no, most ATX motherboards will not fit as the case isn't that deep (IIRC about 1-1/2 or 2" too shallow or around 8" deep). That said there are some very specific motherboards that will work, you just need to ask yourself if it is worth it...

You should post the model, most older sun's are stuck at U2W and it would be a waste to put newer larger drives in them.

Is the reader powered? If it's passive USB it may not be giving the media enough juice to work correctly (and there are two different types of CF media out there, 3.3v and older 5v IIRC). - HTH

Look at 3Ware and LSI for your SATA card. As for the drives, they really should be matched. If you don't want to have to think about getting the same type drive if one fails then buy Seagates (5 year Warranty) and be done with it. - HTH

I have no idea what happened but my present system is 36GB SCSI (boot) with 2 x 250GB IDE drives. I suggest you disconnect all IDE drives and reinstall, then attach your IDE drives. Also check to make sure your SCSI card is set as a boot device in the BIOS, sounds like it's not.

Not true at all, in fact quite a few 2U's take regular ATX's, however, if you want to use more than 3 cards (video or other) you would be better off with a 3U or 4U.

Don't forget to look here as well. 12 drives in a 2U package, or 16+ in a 3U/4U package. A 1U with 4 fixed drives would be nice... guess they don't make them that small.
