Hi guys
thinking of switching my desktop for a laptop, gonna be on the road for a while so it makes sense. Been looking at dell laptops and wanted to know if they can be overclocked or not, theres not a lot of information going on it so if anyone can give me some insight that'd be cool
title says it all, great article that compares the performance of various cat from 3.5-4.5 and apparently they're planning to add in some more of the earlier drivers as well.
check it out if your a benchmark junkie.

Rumour has it that tha makers of the prometia units have just filled for bankruptsy. There site is down and there has been a shortage of units for a little while now.
sorry to be the bearer of bad news
no worries mate, you might wanna check the card in another computer first just incase but i'd say your problem does warrent an RMA, best to check first though just incase.
lol, can't say i've ever left my coffee running at night and then been pissed that's it's making to much noise to let me sleep.
just backing up what others have said.
get the quietist fan you can (which will be quieter than the HD and PSU), cut ou the grills in the case, use some acoustic...
current scores in sig
cheers for pointing out the official thread cornelious0_0, beat me to it.
and i'm kinda working on taking it over from blackhex so that it will get updated but i'm not gonna say anymore till it actually happens.
sounds like your getting pixel artifacts to me which are a result of the core overheating.
I'f youv got any artic silver you could try appling that to the heatsink after removing the thermal pad that ati uses which can somtimes go hard and cause the problems your having.
like i said, just waiting for someone to say it, i can fully understand why corn's trying to rma it as well, i know i would if i thought i had a chance
really feeling for you corn, on a serious note i hope that this doesn't put you off voltmodding for good. I've had a couple of scares when voltmodding but i keep coming back to it.
and good luck with the RMA as well dude (just waitin for someone to say it's unethical)
corneious there are ways of telling which way to wind the pot without removing it but i'm guessing (could be wrong) that this is your first voltmod so i'd advise to check it the safeist way which is to unsolder one of the legs of the pot and then check the resistance with in turned fully...
thought i'd join in on the longest thread i've found so far.
about two months ago i posted a leaflet in all the houses in my village asking people if they had any old electrical equipement they didn't want anymore and were gonna throw out and i literally got sack loads of stuff, heres what i...
i can tell you know for sure that they are, with anything over stock cooling the 98xx cards get voltage starved artifacts before they get heat artifacts, i know your reluctant to voltmod what is a very expensive piece of hardware but if you do it will bring definate benifits in terms of artifact...
f**king clip still isn't here two weeks later, really not impressed with the service wetandchilly chips are offering, they've had my money but no sign of my clip at all, not even an email to confirm the order. gonna have to chase them up me thinks.
and a bump
i'm definaltey with you on this one corn, yeah we've all heard of the silly performance that the nvidia card will offer but IMO that means absolutely shit. I remember how convinced i was that all the pre launch hype on the 5800 ultra meant in was gonna piss on the 9700 but it never did.
until...
I've got some 'work in progress' thats using a windtunnel style design thats supposedly the best mothod for getting air through your rad. check it out at this thread if you want...
here
lol, i got no idea what you mean by that.
cheers for the props everyone, as soon as the bracket gets here i'll post my oc and temp results. Gunno be gutted if it's not here tomoz though cuz i'm going on holiday and it'll be a full week before i get to play.
yeah i know and i've thought about this, might have to do it as an iterim thing till i can get a bit of cash for a water block. all my other fans in my case i can run at either 12/7/5v by flicking switches.
i don't really wanna sacrafice the overclockability though.
yeah there have been a few dfi's like that, tempted me into getting one till i heard how unstable it was.
i think it was around 260, i know there are several people at amdforums running 250 day in day out, i'm aiming to get that high as well just gonna take a little bit of tweaking i think.
I got a bit lazy after taking the picture and just used some tank tape to seal it up, it's all fairly sturdy without the tape and i thought seeing as noone is gonna be seeing it after the sidepanel is on what does it matter, means it'll be a bit easier to take it apart as well if i need to...
nw mate, didn't take it as being rude. i think i've tried that before, just tried again now and all it does is change the small print at the top of a post not the name of a thread so i wouldn't really of had the desired effect.
thanks for the advise anyway
so long as its not artifacting it should be fine, my core clocks to 450 on air and i'm using a softmodded 9800se so i think your fine.
2d profile is what the clocks are set to when doing 2d stuff, theres no point overclocking in this cuz you don't gain any performance so set this profile to...
fair point, i did think about it but i don't know how you can change the name of a thread cuz what i've done is the second step if you know what i mean.
it's not like i'm spamming or anything i'm just restarting the interest in my work.
any mods reading and you don't want me to do this...
if you want one that can really oc then get the soltek 75frn2 - RL
it's got the highest stable fsb in a ranking thing over at XS and i've had nothing but good results with it. very underated board IMO
