I have a barton 2500+ 333. If i upgrade to the 3200+ 400 FSB, will i see a good performance boost? My RAM is capable of running at 400 FSB and so is my motherbaord.

This upgrade would be for gaming.

what do you guys think?

i don't think you'll see a significant boost in gaming u can overclock your cpu to that speed anyway with some good ram and get the results without having to pay for the new card. sisoftware sandra only states a marginal boost over the athlon 2600+ which is very close to your card. so i really see no point. stick with what u have.

Defintely you will be increasing the processor by 400mhz ! Mine has been running overclocked for months. Its great.

If you've got decent RAM, or PC3200 to begin with, just overclock it. My XP 2800+ (333FSB) is running at 3200+ speeds with ease, with just setting the FSB to 400MHz.

do what the others said and just overclock it, save a load of money and get the same if not better performance

i had my 2500+ overclocked to 200 fsb, worked great. it was funny one day when me and a friend were playing wc3: i loaded slower then him (he has a p4 2.6 ghz, 1 gig of pc2700 ram etc) but after i overclocked, i loaded faster then him.

so yes, you will see a difference.

my KT266A took a power surge while the board was down and I replaced it with a Shuttle Nforce 2 Ultra board.
Running at 2066 with PC2700 running PC2100 CAS 2 encoded vids on average at 26fps.
running 2088 on a 166bus with PC2700 2-2-3-10 it encodes the same vids at 31fps average.
3dmark 2001 score went up about 1000 points, framerates on games are smoother, less noticable drop.

If my RAM could handle it, I'd be running 200MHz fsb right now. Asynchronious RAM and FSB drops my performance back down to PC2100 times...

Overclock that puppy, feed your CPU.

I'm with the rest, my athlons just oc'ed to 400 FSB, its really easy, just get a good zalman cnp 7000 heatsink.
