Oh, the memories of Qcon and the 37" Westy.
I used mine for 5 years before passing it onto my son who used it for another 3. It died 3 or 4 years ago.
What a great piece of hardware for its time!
Been out of the loop for a bit (divorce, new house, etc. ugggg) . Everything lining out now, but I need a bit of help. I want to give my son a new video card for his (my pc actually in sig) gaming rig. As noted in the subject, it's an R9 290. I have $500 to spend for his graduation gift, so...is...
It works. It's technically sound. With all of the variations in motherboards and what not, it's almost guaranteed to run across an issue like this.
Nobody can see it, even if they could, what difference does it make having a washer on each corner of the backplate?
dead thread revival.....
The AudioTechnica MTH50 is a great set of cans for a very affordable price....simply great for music with a solid low end that is not boomy or muddy.
Music is fantastic in them.
Dude, you aren't ghetto enough unless you use your two stroke leaf blower to blast out the dust.
I just set mine on my patio table, block off the fans so they won't spin warp speed, and let 'er rip!
Weird, I assume the H100i uses the same fans as the 80i, and I find my fans stock fans perfect at 1000-1250 rpm.
I can crank them up but honestly I get only 1-2c better cooling with the fans at "loud" speeds....
A little late...but a solid sub from a well known manufacturer, cheap, and plays louder than you think....
I paired one of these with my Andrew Jones/Pioneer mains/center and I am very happy! I have a small/medium room with a Samsung 55" LED dispaly and man, this setup rocks. For 129 bucks you...
I had a "deathstar" die in my mom's rig a few weeks ago...it literally caught fire at the sata connector and took out the drive above it as well before she could pull the plug. The PC was running still when it roasted and smoke was coming out the vents...luckily she was there when it went down.
I have only played Metro Redux and Last Light, as well as replaying Crysis (with modded texture packs).
Anything older than that...sheesh...
I am looking for a new online shooter that is good to look at, AND has decent gameplay...and not the CoD crap out now...the last good CoD was Modern...
To be honest, with my 4670k at stock clocks, I can tell ZERO difference in actual games. CPU loads are only in the 35-50 % range when gaming. The video card is doing all the work.
These i5's and i7's are beasts!
I picked this unit up for a song and a dance, caught a random sale at a Best Buy in Houston along with a $25 rewards card credit, and walked out for less than 81 bucks!
I do not find a noisy fan at all, it's solid power from a well known brand "It just works".
Have you tried running your cpu cache multiplier lower? If I run at 4.5ghz my cache multi has to be 38-39, higher than that and it will freeze occasionally.
Don't change anything else, and run that cache multi at 38...see if that improves stability.
If you run the cache at more than 3 less...
...at Best Buy in Sugarland, it was on the website for 129.00, I took it to counter and they had a sale on it for 99.00, and I had a rewards card 25.00 credit, so I ended up paying 80 bucks and some change for it out the door.
Replaced my old Thermaltake TR2 600w...this one has modular cables...
I am using the stock H80i fans, and at 1400rpm or less I have no noise...and at 1400 I get pretty good cooling, cranking the fans up past that has only a 1-2c effect...not worth the noise and not enough to matter.
I think the stockers are fine.
And I don't mean the guys that just purely camp to get those high KD ratios, I am talking about good, solid players that move around, play smart, and get nice kill counts.
OK, let me rant a little, and get opinions.
In a TDM game, there is always "that player" that is obsessed with the highest kill count, so he can "win" the round. So you get a guy that spams/runs/suicides around, gets 150 frags/120 deaths...call it +30 for the team.
...another guy gets only...
When I get camped one too many times, I make it a point to go get that camper. No issues. It's part of the game.
Even I do it a little bit, knowing all game play styles works so that you know how to deal with it.
Like snipers, I love hunting those bastards down, I am not a good sniper and...
Go to www.tinypic.com and upload the pictures there...totally free, then just paste the provided forum image link they give you into your post.
Nice results!
Actualy mine will drop to 1900mhz at low load...which would be 1100mhz over the 800...which is the same amount as the overclock at load from 3.4 to 4.5 so I assume it drops the multi down a specific amount from whatever the multi is set at for the overclock.
I just dialed in my max voltage and max multi...left power saving on so it can clock down the multi and run at 2ghz. Then under load it runs my overclocked setting of 4.5ghz.
Simple really, overclocking Haswell is not near as difficult as it seems.
I had some small nylon/plastic ones about 1.5mm thick that came off of an old water cooling mount kit from years ago. Do not get metal! As noted, o-rings would work GREAT, you could get those from an auto parts store for cheap as well.
80c under a synthetic load such as prime95 torture test is GREAT. For normal things like gaming, it'll be at least 15-20 cooler.
I can't be bothered to delid my chip since it is 15c less than Intel specifies as "safe".
Depending on your case, you could improve temps by improving case airflow...adding some washers to the backplate of your cooler...or chaning/adding fans to your cooler for push/pull and/or changing it to intake fresh air rather than exhaust case air. My results of doing just that...
After all the discussion about some backplate issues on the H series coolers...here is where I am at. The cpu is NOT delidded. Case is the Fractal R4 with (1) 140mm top exhaust, (1) 140mm front intake, (1) 120mm bottom intake. The H80i is set as intake from outside case air, then it gets sucked...
I disagree to some extent. My 4670k at 4.5 ghz dropped temp majorly with water, and then another 7-8 degrees with the washers added to the backplate. Prime95 after an hour sees @80c-82c max. I am pretty happy with that since I was hitting 90c prior to any tweaking of the H80i. Even the Intel...
Well in a nutshell, temp problems should be easy to fix.
If the pump is working and the fans too, then it's down to either the block contact or the heatspreader to die interface. Barring software not reporting correctly, but a quick check using Coretemp will show this easily.
We are all...
I do agree, I used to work on computers for extra income. But no more. It's not worth my time to try and save someone's rig/emails/photos/life story when they continuously infest the rig due to stupidity and ignorant Web practices, and then once you have charged them a fair fee the first time...
Can't help you on the firmware, I just wanted to post that my westy is still running happily. I gave it to my 15yr old son for his pc/Xbox display.
I finally downsized to a 27" display just for sheer size reasons.
Someone posted a pic above. The heat spreader on the Has well cores uses some sort of TIM between it and the cpu die itself. Some people have found that it was over applied by Intel and this can cause a chip to run hotter than normal. De-lidding means removing that big silver heat spreader and...
Many of the AIO coolers are great products, You sound like a biased fanboy with your lame, biased rhetoric. Since you had a bad experience, maybe because you may not know what you are doing...you slam two of the biggest, well known, popular brands out there.
You are making yourself look bad.
