I'm thinking about selling the one I just bought (HP A7217A) from Accurate IT. It's perfect and I paid $499. I will sell for less. If anyone is interested, let me know. It has a 1 year warranty.
I set it for 1600x1000 and it squished everything toward the middle. Then I stretched with the monitor controls and it looks pretty good now.
The whites are still pretty dull. It's not a gray but it's not quite white if that makes any sense. My other monitor kind of looked like this too...
I have an Nvidia 7600GT. I wasn't able to find custom settings in display properties but I installed Powerstrip and found it there. However, when I set it to 1600x1024 part of the desktop is off the screen. It's like it got stretched too far. Plus, there's a real bad flicker at 85hz.
Any...
Just got my HP!! :D It looks great right out of the box. I'll have to fiddle with it a little bit but it's looks pretty good so far. There are a few nicks on the outside case but that doesn't matter to me at all.
Gonna give it about an hour to warm up and then I'll start fiddling...
My Sony FW900 (HP) is being delivered today. It will be left by my garage until I get home. The temp is currently 16 degrees. How long should I wait before turning it on?
Thanks!
Lots of great deals on CRTs at http://www.accurateit.com/home.asp.
I just ordered a FW900 (HP). Should get it Wed/Thurs. The guy I talked to was very helpful.
EDIT: Why don't you like LCD? Just curious.
Hey all:
I'm considering this monitor (with a few others). I don't play games, it's basically all text and web pages for me. How is this monitor with text? I went to BB and CC and all the LCD's seemed slightly different. I couldn't find one of these anywhere.
Thanks.
Thanks for the excellent responses!
EDIT: I think I'm gonna do it!! :) I've been looking at text on CRTs for years and I haven't been suffering so how bad could it be. As long as there's no ghosting/shadows of characters I'm happy. (not sure I know what ghosting means but that's what it...
Ok, I guess a better question for me to ask is there anybody here who doesn't like reading text on their monitor or, if they only used it for surfing (no games), would trade their FW900 in for a LCD?
I'm sorry about all the questions. I just want to make the best decision I can without being...
Ok, I think I got it now. Since I usually lower the resolution (make things bigger) on all the monitors I use I should be able to get the clarity and crispness of the LCD with my CRT.
I have my finger on the trigger to buy one tonight. . . . .
EDIT:
I see a HP A7217A on Accurate IT but it...
I went to Circuit City and Best Buy. Neither had the NEC. When I asked about IPS panels they all looked at me like I was crazy. :D They told me they used TFTs. :p
Best Buy had all of monitors hooked up to a photo show. I asked if I could see text and they said no. Finally I...
I'd like to take a look at an IPS panel before I decide whether to go LCD or back to CRT. I'm afraid to ask they guys at BB and CC because some of them aren't well informed.
Are there any that you know are IPS that they carry?
Thanks!
Is this the FW900? It looks good. :D

If I understand correctly from the above posts, the text might not be as good as an LCD but it can be adjusted to be as good?
Thanks for the help.
Well, if you guys say it'll have a better picture than the NEC, I'm getting one!! :D Accurate IT has a few of them for about $500.
Does using a VGA connection degrade the quality picture at all? Should I get an adapter?
I know there's a thread devoted to the FW900 but I'm hoping my question can be answered quickly without having to browse all those pages.
Is this monitor better than all LCDs?
I've been looking at the NEC 2070NX. Will the Sony FW900 be noticeably better? (I posted this in the FW900...
I've been looking at the NEC 2070NX LCD which uses an IPS panel. Will the Sony be noticeably better than the NEC?
Anyone have any problems buying refurbs off of ebay? What kind of life can you get out of one of used units?
Thanks!
I found a refurb Sony P234 for $600. It looks pretty sweet. It comes with a 90 day warranty. Should go for it or stick with new? Any experience buying refurb monitors?
Thanks!
I really like the size of the 2170 but it appears from what I found that it has an S-PFA and the 2070 has an IPS. How much difference will I notice?
Thanks
