Hey guys,
I know I've posted in the hardware forum with an XP issue, but my initial thoughts were that this was a hardware issue (No new hardware attached).
The long and short of it is, I'm looking at a computer which freezes on the XP logo screen. It also freezes trying to boot into safe...
Hi guys,
I've just plugged a mobo in that I've just received and I want to know if you think its dead.
Basically I've now got it set up outside of the box, with CPU and memory installed. I get no beeps and the only sign of life is the CPU fan.
Dead or what?
Yes there have been no beeps. When I first powered the box up, I took the RAM out and it gave me a pretty long loud beep. But after that I've had no beeps at all when the RAM's been out.
I've tested each stick on their own, but still the mobo doesn't post.
I have already tried clearing the cmos by taking the battery out - No joy there!
I've tried booting with nothing attached to the mobo, just cpu - No joy there either. So I'm pretty sure its not one of the other components.
The guy I'm looking at it for said, it started acting funny so he...
Its a HP Pavillion a708 or something like that anyway.
I've tried what I can, the computers not posting remember. There's not a lot that I can do except check connection etc...
Hi guys,
I'm trying to get to the bottom of a problem I'm having with a HP and I'm wondering if you can help.
Basically the box doesn't appear to be posting. I've had it beep previously when I took the RAM out, and it told me once that I didn't have a harddrive attached.
But since it...
Hi guys
I was looking at a friends laptop, its a Compaq Presario 2114EA, which has recently for no apparent reason been shutting down to 'prevent damage to the system.' When it boots back up it says its recovered from a serious error.
Now I've not actually seen the shutdown happen, but...
Hi guys,
I can say I've really ever used itunes, but I recently recovered some data for someone and now they've come back to me saying all their iTunes music has gone.
As I said, I've not really used it, but I would have thought iTunes at heart is just a media player that lets you download...
Hi guys
I'm considering buying a Q6600, and I'm looking for a board that'll let me OC it. I'm not bothered about on-board gfx and sound as I'll be getting those seperate.
Any suggestions?
I'm not normally one to post this kind of stuff, but trust me your not alone when it comes to having problems with Vista.
Check this guy out:

While your there, check Beryl out too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xC5uEe5OzNQ The best bit is right...
Hi guys,
I was trying to fix a boot problem and to cut a long story short, I now have 2 options to load the same installation of XP.
How do I remove one of these entries from the boot record?
You can always try it.
I'm no expert but I'd have thought anyone with a wireless card could sniff the packets by just downloading wireshark along with the airpcap stuff.
As for online banking over the air, excuse me for being paranoid - but are you mad!
Hi guys
I'm looking at a laptop for someone, and its hanging just before the welcome/login screen. I've tried safe mode, but the same problem occurs. I've also tried chkdsk from the recovery console, it repaired one or more errors  but still no joy.
Last known good config...
Hi guys
I'm trying to get a feel for how much traffic AD generates with regards to replication and roaming profiles.
I've read about calculating disk sizes for AD, but thats not what I'm after. Does anyone have a rough guide about the actual traffic that can be expected?
No wonder the planets falling apart with all these PCs left on!
But seriously for all those in techy jobs, I know you need the PCs left on, I mean how else can you remotely manage them. But you should ask the users to turn the monitors off before they go home - I don't mean standby thats...
You've already hit the nail on the head, its all about multipliers.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but basically everything is ultimately related to 33MHz - Or at least it seemed to be when I was studying computer science.
Why 33MHz I don't know and don't really care. Probably something...
Sorry, when I say remotely, I just mean from another PC on the network, in the same domain.
Can navigate to the folder, but when Sage runs it dies a death.
Hi guys
I recently installed some replacement PCs for a small business and I've run into one or two teething problems.
The first one is quite amusing, a couple of days after I'd installed a new printer and attached existing ones to other PCs they mailed me to say they had a printer...
The new computer are upgrades for existing users, to be honest I think mostly I can stay away from AD - on the server anyway.
I do however have to add a new printer, so I'll need to assign that via AD?
Hi guys,
I've been asked to update a small buisness network with 4 new computers, and I have to admit I've installed the odd home network, but active directory, exchange and the like of small business server are all new to me - I've been desperate to do something like this for ages, its like...
Found the problem. Aparently its caused by the I_AM_A_TOTAL_IDIOT trojan.
Don't know why the picture was appearing when it was booting up, because there was no picture selected under display settings!
I seem to recall having a similar problem previously, its a known MS issue I think.
Google some stuff along the lines of 'windows update website fails' and stuff. You'll stumble across it eventually.
Its been a while but I think its to do with needing to re-register some dlls. If you see a...
This was working 'fine' until recently. Basically I've disturbed something during the clean up (this is XP - no service packs exposed to the net for at least a year!).
Housecall is dying during cleanup, but it detects 447 thingmabobs of MEMWATCHER torjan, or something like that. Which I'm...
I've been looking at a computer for someone and it appears that the picture they have on the desktop disappears and is replaced with a blue background - which isn't the usual windows blue if you know what I mean.
Now when you shut doen, the picture returns so that to me suggests some kind of...
Nearly quite using assembler, man all you ever do is move one register to another - how could that ever not be fun? The only thing more fun that that is raw binary! ;)
I started with basic, moved on to pascal, asm then cobol, java, c, natural, then awk and python.
One thing I will say is...
VMware is great. Its a virtual machine. The only issue you may have is drivers, if your hardware isn't supported by win95. Basically you'll have a virtual win95 box (guess OS) running as a program on your actual machine - that you can run full screen.
I love VMware, absolutely love it! Its...
Its going to be a desktop machine, just word processing etc.
As for current specs the computer is question is an ancient Win98 PoS thats finally given up the ghost.
Hi guys
I've been asked to price a system - "the best possible for the cheapest possible!"
So I figure, trade off top end specs for future upgrade potential - All it'll be used for is desktop stuff anyway.
Now I know AMD and Intel both like to change the sockets every so often, but does...
Whats your current setup?
If you've already got a router to share your internet then you can just set the computer that the printer is hanging off to be a print server. No need to buy waste your money on a dedicated print server.
All I use is TweakNow RegCleaner, keeps my registry pretty clean and thats keeps windows running nicely.
I also use Comodo Personal Firewall as well as a h/w firewall, AVG and spybot - which has some pretty good security features.
But I guess I don't really need all this crap, I swapped to...
