Hey guys,

I know I've posted in the hardware forum with an XP issue, but my initial thoughts were that this was a hardware issue (No new hardware attached).

The long and short of it is, I'm looking at a computer which freezes on the XP logo screen. It also freezes trying to boot into safe mode, while booting knoppix and from the setup disk when 'Setup is starting windows.'

My initial thought was harddisk fault, so removed the disk and attached it as a secondary to another box. Ran chkdisk which reported back about freeing memory flaged as allocated and something about the master file table being corrupt. Although from looking on the MS site this is a warning with a hotfix that can be ignored.

Anyway, that didn't work, so ran up RC and did a fixboot and fixmbr. Thats all done didley squat. So used a western digial diagnostic tool and it reported 'Error code 0000' which means device is defect free.

So I've gone to a basic setup, just HDD, CPU and GFX attached but it still hangs at boot.

I'm currently running memtest but does anyone have any ideas?

It would help if you posted the specs of your PC....

Oh and use HItachi Drive Fitness Test to test the hard drive.
