Hi guys,

I've just plugged a mobo in that I've just received and I want to know if you think its dead.

Basically I've now got it set up outside of the box, with CPU and memory installed. I get no beeps and the only sign of life is the CPU fan.

Dead or what?

Have you confirmed all the other components to be working? If so, it's probably dead.

you dont need memory in the mobo for it to display an image on the screen, you can do a lot of things without ram
sure its compatible with the CPU?
Tried taking out the CMOS for a couple of mins then putting back in and trying again?

This is almost 100% wrong. There are VERY few situations where you can POST a system without RAM in the mobo.

And by no beeps, do you have an internal-type speaker hooked up if there isn't one on the mobo?

You'd need a video card to be present as well. PC BIOSs love a VGA BIOS

This is almost 100% wrong. There are VERY few situations where you can POST a system without RAM in the mobo.

It's not almost 100% wrong, it's flat out completely wrong. No modern PCs will complete a POST without RAM.
