the game just came out on August 30th...25% is actually a bigger than normal discount for a less than 3 month old game...what are you expecting, 75% off?...a 50% discount?
Matter of fact I am expecting that thank you very much.

Matter of fact I am expecting that thank you very much.

Will need to wait a bit longer. I have to assume sales will rebound a bit with a Steam release. Though I also think by January you'll probably see this for 35% or so off, maybe more.

The game is basically being completed post release and it's already in a better state now then when it was rushed out too early.

Not exactly breaking records on Steam.

Last night there were more people on Battlefront 2 than Outlaws. The game will obviously pick up some momentum on Steam but this isn't a good sign. This is a game that didn't sell well for a number of reasons and Steam ultimately won't move the needle a whole lot on that front. I believe Ubisoft is ultimately wasting money trying to make the game better. It never should have been launched the way it was and it is a good thing they are fixing it. If nothing else, it helps improve their dismal reputation if only slightly.

Wonder if this game would run at all on my Dell G5 SE 5505 15.6" FHD IPS High Performance Gaming Laptop, AMD 4th Gen Ryzen 5 4600H 6-core, 16GB RAM, 256GB PCIe SSD + 2TB PCIe, AMD Radeon RX 5600M? If it can, I'll wait until the price drops more where I can pick it up for less than $30.

You’ve just described No Man’s Sky and Cyberpunk.

Both developers received widespread praise for fixing their unfinished, broken games.

In the case of the former, it took many years, and in the case of the latter, it was arguably 2 years.

Goes to show that Steam releases aren't quite as important as people think. Of course it would have sold more had it been on Steam day 1, the poor reception at release can't be erased so any uptick from Steam sales will be minimal. I may play the DLC soon. A quick google search shows nothing about reviews, which shows you how unanticipated it was. Even reviewers aren't running to get clicks and from what I can find, this is around 3 hours long.

I've been saying it from the start...the gameplay itself is the main cause of the disappointing sales numbers...people don't want to play as a scoundrel...they want to play as a Jedi with a light saber...the first thing people think of when you say Star Wars is Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader, not Han Solo...the $70 price at launch also didn't help...but PC gamers are a notoriously cheap bunch when it comes to buying games and Steam sales will inevitably help...PC games drop in price at a faster rate than consoles

I give Massive credit for trying something different...still sounds like a good game at the right price

Plenty of successful Star Wars games without Jedis, or without a major gameplay focus on them. Star Wars Republic Commando, Battlefront 1/2 (originals), even Battlefront 1 remake, the many space ship based games are examples. The problem with Outlaws is the gameplay, and well, odd looking character. You play as a supposed outlaw that can't really do outlaw things. You play in large open areas that give the appearance of open ended gameplay, but are so restrained and limited in what you can do. If you played the game you'd understand.

I would like to play a Star Wars shooter game. The Respawn FPS seemed nice. Modern, decent paced FPS gameplay where we can hopefully play as the Empire? That would have been fun. Instead we get an outlaw game where the main character is a goody two shoes.

It should. It plays on my 6550m on low settings. Still looks pretty good though.

And you were wrong when you said it the first time. Republic Commando, the original Battlefront 1 & 2, etc. were all successful. The Mandalorian TV show doesn't feature characters with lightsabers and its far more popular than the other shit Disney has crapped out over the last few years. You are as out of touch as mainstream game journalists when it comes to your opinions on the subject.

have you even watched Mandalorian?...the lead character wields the Darksaber

I also liked the sequel to Starfighter, Jedi Starfighter. In that, in most of the campaign, you do play as a Jedi but the "powers" may as well be regular ship weapons. But technically it has a Jedi so I will leave that off the list.

As for Wild Card DLC, it is more of the same. Made me do the sabacc side quest. I think they made it easier because I finished the last one in a single try. I have not got to the main Sabacc game, but more of the same aside from that. Best thing is you can now climb and get on your speeder with a captured weapon. Once you run out of ammo you drop it though, like before. But at least you can carry it around. There was one fight sequence so far, and then spent 45 minutes walking around in a lame detective style quest. The other annoying things like odd control layout and crappy map are still annoying. Lots of things with this game a small but just poorly implemented. Small, basic things that just make simple functions aggravating.

Will finish it tonight. Seems like it is around 3-4 hours at the most.

I'm not debating these topics until the end of time...everyone is entitled to their own opinions...most people don't care about 'ugly' characters...I for one don't want to play as some gorgeous sexpot female character...that takes me out of the game...gameplay is king, ugly main characters don't matter- Geralt from Witcher, Emperor Palpatine from the Star Wars movies (who wouldn't want to play as a badass Sith Lord?) etc

If you played the game you'd understand.
Correct, I read somewhere recently that only the folks playing the game can have an informed opinion on it... :)

most people don't care about 'ugly' characters...
A recent Capcom survey disproves this:

1732373244221.png

"Unique and attractive characters" came in second only to gameplay. I'm sure someone will say that everyone who voted for that option was only concerned about the uniqueness aspect (which I agree is important, no one wants to play the same protagonist over and over) but they would be lying to themselves. Main character attractiveness is not the top priority, and again I agree that it shouldn't be (or at least isn't to me) but to say that it doesn't matter at all is to deny reality.

I for one don't want to play as some gorgeous sexpot female character...that takes me out of the game...

Exactly, you for one.

And for the record, I don't either, in every game of course...but lots of great or fun games happen to have had attractive protags, whether they be male or female. They don't NEED to, but it doesn't hurt is all I'm saying. If it didn't matter at all, or if it took most players out of the game, why wouldn't developers just make their protags ugly AF so that everyone would just focus on the gameplay? Because generally, people don't like to play as ugly characters (with exceptions of course; I suppose Outlaws and Gollum did sell some copies based on the hugely successful IPs they were based on...some people will consume Star Wars or LOTR anything because they somehow never tire of the content even when it's poorly made).

Furthermore, just because someone thinks Kay looks a bit weird or off (i.e. a lot of people in this case) in this particular game doesn't mean that they want every character to look like the chick from Stellar Blade.
ugly main characters don't matter
See above...
- Geralt from Witcher, Emperor Palpatine from the Star Wars movies (who wouldn't want to play as a badass Sith Lord?) etc
I'd argue that Geralt is usually depicted as strong, masculine, and even handsome which are attractive qualities for many gamers. For every image I found of him looking ugly and scarred up, there is one making him look "sexy" and/or handsome, even if just by virtue of the fact that he is almost always depicted as a warrior with great hair and thus traditionally attractive in that sense.

I'm not debating these topics until the end of time...

Then why do you keep repeating the same points when proven wrong? You can always admit you were wrong.

Anyways, finished Wild Card. I am not sure if the surrender mechanic is working now, but it was hard to activate before regardless. I had some new ability and throughout the whole DLC was unable to use it because every time I walked up to an enemy they would just shoot me on sight. Detection is still kind of wonky. Now they're more quick to start shooting but that seemingly makes it harder to use the surrender mechanic (which has a quick shoot blaster option). At the same time I got quite close to them before they detected me. Not too far off from other games, but still a bit less realistic in terms of NPC perception. There is a new blaster configuration but I didn't even bother with it. Generally I keep Rapid Fire, Stun/electric, and Explosive (might be called something else in game). Rest of the options are just less optimal and I'll pick up other weapons.

Still some more small activities to do, so maybe I'll do some more of them but they're annoying to find and the map is just shitty. Especially on the last planet, Akiva. The overhead map seemingly shows paths that don't exist, or is too hard to see. It is a very a linear level but the map for navigation makes it very hard to figure out where to go. Which means it incorporates the worst of both linear (not quick, not simple to figure out) and open/expansive design (there is a illusion of paths).

I'm not the only one who hates Akiva's design.

To me Akiva's level design seems like it was quite rushed in development.

Will wait for the final DLC. I don't dislike the game that much to not play it. Though apparently the super premium edition I have doesn't include all of the cosmetic DLC. You can buy outfits, speeder and space ship skins for $20. I know these small cosmetic DLCs are always over priced but Ubisoft is really stretching there. Doubt they'll find many buyers considering the character is ugly and your ship is essentially an ugly flying box. Thankfully, I paid very little for this game. For $20 or so with all story DLC it isn't awful. I'd have a hard time recommending it for more than $30-35.

Correct, I read somewhere recently that only the folks playing the game can have an informed opinion on it...

The irony. :ROFLMAO:

I forgot about the flying box. Between Kay's hideous appearance and the boring look of the ship, skins aren't likely to be all that appealing as they won't fix the hideous base design. Also, Ubisoft's pricing of the game was ridiculous in the first place and charging for skins on top of that and other cosmetic bullshit is just stupid. It's predatory and further shows how out of touch Ubisoft is with gamers. There are certainly games that do this well and offer some perceived value for the money but this isn't one of them.

Exactly. The pricing is just too high, even for most AAA games. Usually the stupid cosmetic DLCs are $5-10. They're asking up to $20. And there are multiple packs, so I would need to spend $25 more to get all of the content and that is not including any future paid cosmetic DLC. Not that I do this for any game, but they're stretching it a bit much here. And it is a shorter game which is not inherently bad, but even if the character/ship design was nice you'll be done with the main game in around 24-26 hours. 30 hours if you stretch it out. Not like you'd have time to enjoy them regardless.

Screen shot from my DLC page:

sw o.jpg

The ultimate pack is not included in the season pass. I suppose the version I own technically does not have the season pass apparently, but it comes with the story DLC and that is all I care about.

Here is what the $20 Ultimate Pack comes with:

sw o 2.jpg

I would like to mention I already have some paid cosmetic DLC in whatever version I own. The Ubisoft launcher does not do a good job of telling me what version I have. I can't find the info on the exact version. Regardless, they're asking $110 for the game + season pass/story DLC, and then another $25+ on top of that for a total of $135+. That is... quite an ask. Well at least no one buys these types of DLC in general but it isn't a good look, especially with the very confusing editions Ubisoft has for all of their games.

I did find a red color scheme for my ship, so now I have a red box. :p

Microsoft has blocked the latest Windows 11 update on PCs with Star Wars Outlaws and other Ubisoft games installed

https://www.pcgamer.com/games/actio...rs-outlaws-and-other-ubisoft-games-installed/

First reported by Bleeping Computer, Microsoft is now preventing Windows 11's 24H2 update from being sent out to machines that have a selection of recent Ubisoft games installed on them. A number of users have reported persistent, unworkable crashing, sometimes on startup, when trying to play the affected games.

"After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might encounter issues with some Ubisoft games. These games might become unresponsive while starting, loading or during active gameplay,"

Glad I am still on Win 10 but will probably upgrade soon.

One thing I forgot to mention is the performance improvements. Recent patch helped a lot. I gradually turned up some of the ray tracing settings. I had settled on a mix of medium high during the main game for consistent high performance. Now I have put most of those up to high and the performance decrease is minimal. I am getting 100-130 or so frame rates in the outdoor areas. Much smoother as well. I still have ray tracing global illumination disabled though. Previously with these settings I recall the frame rates to be closer to around 80 or so.

Worth mentioning, the pirated versions of these games still run fine on 24H2. Possibly an issue with Ubisoft's implementation of VMProtect/Denvuo, however there are other non-Ubisoft games suffering as well

Should’ve stopped this crap earlier. I am on 24H2 and can’t go back. I have yet to play more but thus far post patch didn’t crash.

A few years back they didn't work with Intel's new CPUs. Though Outlaws and Avatar (two of the games listed in the article) have not yet been cracked, so if people are having issues with those games they are running legit copies. Also worth mentioning that most Denuvo cracks don't remove it they just bypass it.

Though if it is related to Denuvo, it is just another reason to dislike it.

I was about to say. Out laws hasn't been cracked yet. Newer Denuvo games have been very hard to crack.

It's a true shame that this didn't release in the form it's in now post patch 1.4. Management at these companies needs to finally learn not to rush game out too early.
I’m not joking here: you, personally, will probably love Veilguard.

In so many ways it reminds me of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. The combat is terrific, and the game is just so… smooth. The game was clearly held back and held back until it was absolutely ready. Not enough people are praising EA and BioWare for this.

Don’t worry about the DEI nonsense because it’s just not there. Someone complained that the combat is ‘repetitive’. All combat is repetitive. The Witcher 3’s combat is repetitive. Odyssey’s combat is repetitive. In an RPG of this kind you want to feel your character growing in strength, and you want the combat to be touch and go, right up until the end of the fight, and when you win the fight you want to feel that surge of adrenaline - you’ll experience all of that in Veilguard… if you bump up the difficulty by one notch.

You’ll like this game too. Watch out for sales and keep both games in mind.

Bolded is a flat out lie. Overall, the whole game may not feature it, but it's there.

EA and BioWare shouldn't get specific praise simply because they shipped a finished and polished product. This is the minimum gamers should expect from AAA studios.

This is absolutely not true. Combat in a game can be quite varied and interesting if done right. Games that give you options allow the player to have a lot more agency over how they take on enemies leading to much less repetitive combat. The last two Ghost Recon games are good examples of this. You can do stealth takedowns, melee, shoot enemies, or gun them down with an attack helicopter. Go stealth or drive in with a dune buggy and come out blasting. Your choice.

I don't think that would have made that much of a difference in this case. This game is failing for a number of reasons beyond it simply being a buggy and unpolished release. It's absurd price, hideous character design, predatory microtransactions, season pass model, Ubisoft's reputation, and just generally uninspired gameplay that comes across as a knock off of older Ubisoft titles that did everything better than Outlaws does.

And just because a game’s combat is ‘repetitive’, it doesn’t mean the gameplay is terrible.

Many people were critical of The Witcher 3’s combat, saying they were surprised at how boring and repetitive it was. But we’re talking about one of the greatest RPGs of all time here.

Also, you’re doing what you always do: stating an opinion as though it’s a fact. It’s highly subjective to say that any game’s combat is ‘boring and repetitive’. I personally don’t find Veilguard’s combat boring and repetitive. Far from it, for me it’s terrific. For me it’s exactly as you stated above: varied and interesting. It’s not for you to tell me that I’m wrong. It’s subjective.

Linking me to cherry-picked reviews in which some reviewer claims that the combat is boring and repetitive doesn’t mean that the combat is boring and repetitive… it just means that one person thinks that.

Just because someone has a YouTube channel doesn’t mean their opinion is the final say.

But you’ve said this maybe 12 times now.

Dead horse = completely flogged.

its there.. but why are you pushing feilguard in the outlaws thread?!

oof, hasnt even cracked 2500 players...
Umm excuse me if you look at the daily peak, you can see it's going up every day.
At this rate Outlaws will pass 100k daily players in about 3 months.

I'm waiting for a sale price and some lore friendly mods. I might take a shot at it when all that comes together. Gaming plate is fairly full at present.

Yes, the DEI stuff is there. If I can work around it then that would be ideal. Not crossing that bridge at present.
