Crysis 2 leaked for PC

Then you don't understand human nature. Unless it drives multiplayer sales, it completely kills a lot of single player sales because people would have already finished the story and made up their mind about whether or not this is a good game or not since the entire thing is released.

You're assuming that these people wouldn't have pirated the final version anyway.

You all do realize the ENTIRE source was leaked including the Master Key for multiplayer , its beyond the usual leaks we've all come to expect from time to time.

The money involved for engine development and game play assests is huge and to have that source property stolen? Only way this could have happened is an internal mole leaked it to a hacker group.

Also why do people think Stalker : COP looks so amazing? I'm sorry it looks like complete shit next to the Crysis 1 engine. Unless there is some amazing mod I'm missing that must be installed for it too look its best , otherwise highly overrated graphics engine.

Looks like another game that is unplayable on the highest settings like the first one, though we'll see when the final version comes out.

I wasn't expecting anything more from a dumb down engine for consoles, I feel sorry for anyone that expected this thing to shit all over the first one.

And watch as this thing hit's the market, I can almost guarantee the sales will suck across the platforms, console gamers won't get what the big deal was all about with the first one, and I'm sure they engineered the game to work in a similar fashion to how it functioned on PC, except I think it won't play properly on either console or PC.

I still think nothing looks as good as crysis 1.

And I really don't understand that, how can a game from 4 years ago still beat games graphically (and imo gameplay wise) that are coming out today?? How the hell is this possible??

Because making an engine to push graphics beyond Crysis would likely cost exponentially more to create than CryEngine 2 cost. For as much as I like to attack the second half of Crysis and the shortcuts Crytek took to make the game look so good, the engine was very impressive and it was fairly complex. There simply isn't enough of a market out there for hardware pushing titles as there used to be. AAA level games cost tens of millions of dollars, not many studios can afford to toss that kind of cash around especially for a title that would have to be exclusive to the PC. The PC centric publishers don't have that kind of cash to toss around for funding either and the larger pubs aren't going to take that kind of risk. Crysis and Warhead sold well, but Crytek paid very little of their own money to develop it. Due to Yerli being a total bitch and a complete fucking douchebag his statements after the release of Crysis and Warhead have probably scared off a lot of devs and pubs from taking the kind of risk required to do anything. Metro 2033 is bitting at Crysis' heels and in some areas does look better, but that is just one title in the last four years.

PS: I completely disagree about gameplay. The first half of Crysis was great, but the second was terrible. It was bland, boring, and removed all the fun gameplay elements. I enjoyed Warhead more, but I could never force myself to finish it.

I think this looks better than Crysis 1, and I haven't even seen it running at max yet.

You're assuming that these people wouldn't have pirated the final version anyway.

Those people don't count in prospective sales. As I've said, DRM is designed to slow pirates as much as possible so people who can't wait do buy the game on release. Most publishers think that that majority of sales happen in the first 3 weeks.

People who downloaded and played it through for free now might have been people who would have paid for it on release but no longer will because they have experienced the full story or they have decided that they don't like the game for whatever reason. There are myn games I've bought that I've regretted afterwards.

Those who were going to pirate it all along are going to wait for a crack and pirate it all along so no, they are not "lost" sales as the industry claims .

Poor Crytek. Just saw it on Torrents full single/multiplayer.

Honestly I don't see why a publisher would hate this unless a completely unplayable/shoddy looking version was leaked. It's my opinion this will only create more hype around it and lead to more release day sales - particularly since most people seem impressed with it.

Can't wait for it to be released, almost definitely a day one buy for me even though I swore I'd never do that after buying spore.....

they could generate just as much interest by releasing a youtube vid themselves. the game being leaked to torrent sites is never a good a thing for publishers.

The closing line wasn't needed and only serves to prove Crytek wants to bitch and moan about piracy some more instead of focusing on crucial details. Piracy is only "damaging" to companies who want to make excuses for why their games didn't sell fifty billion copies or whatever the hell Yerli wanted.

Yup yup yup.. Make a good product it will sell.. Plenty of examples to prove this..

Yea the closing line is preachy but is it inaccurate? Can you really blame them at this moment for being upset? They've just had millions of dollars worth of assests stolen right under there noses. A brand new unreleased engine that took years to develop is now downloadable by any asshole willing.

Piracy in general does do some damage , its not as dramatic as companies make it sound and the fake numbers they come up with are laughable a majority of the time (saying they've could have sold millions of copies of a single game but because it was pirated they've lost all that profit).

Developers share just as much blame for the crappy treatment of the PC community by stripping features that have become to be expected in modern times (dedicated server support , mod support to name a few) but to say that the PC community doesn't also share some fault is just wrong.

Oh they have every right to be angry, but their anger should be directed inward to find out who is behind the leak. Someone they trusted enough with access to the game and its source code leaked it. Unless their servers were hacked, of course.

Crytek is turning into another Epic and their attitude doesn't make me want to buy their products, it makes me want to see them go away and just support the platforms they seem to give a damn about. I'm not going to say piracy doesn't hurt (there are plenty of examples to prove that statement wrong), but Crytek has done nothing but bitch and moan about piracy since Crysis released. This is despite the fact that Crysis' sales exceeded EA's expectations and both it and Warhead sold something like five million units combined. However, according to Cevat Yerli they could have sold 100 million units if not for piracy (he made a statement that for every one copy of Crysis sold 20 were pirated).

The other thing that they conveniently forget is that piracy on consoles is now becoming extraordinarily bad.

The most recent example is Marvel vs Capcom 3, a console ONLY game which has had the retail version leak almost two weeks before release and is now being enjoyed by both 360 and ps3 pirates.

I'll wait for the demo, but meh anyways. Waiting for Duke Forever myself.

True , turning the focus inward is probably whats really going on within the walls of Crytek.

I think Crytek is already Epic if not soon to be worse. Cevat Yerli is a moron when it comes to running his business and hes had quotes that are just as retarded as Cliffy's. This whole anti-PC sentiment is just bad business practice all around. They love to slam the PC community like its some kind of pathetic unmodernized foreign country trying to act industrialized.

I don't get the fuss over Stalkers graphics either, Metro 2033 is much better visually. Stalker has a sharp look to it and good draw distances but it's not visually stunning even jacked up imo.

If Cevat had any brains he would release the PC demo ASAP to combat negative perceptions from the beta and to distract people from the leaked beta.

Sadly, I think in reality he is just going to bitch and whine about the situation which in all likelihood is more likely the result of poor internal security measures.

Again, you're assuming that people who will download a broken beta leaked copy of a game are different people than the ones who will download the copy post-release. Anyone who is depserate enough to download the broken leak probably wasn't going to buy it anyway, at least not until it was $5 on steam.

I hope they don't pull a dick move and cancel the PC version of Crysis 2. I've been really looking forward to this game.

I really don't think you have to worry about that. With the game being less than two months away... it's basically done. There would be no benefit to stopping now.

Amen my brother. This will make or break peoples decision on purchasing the game for the muliplayer portion.

I wouldn't necessary agree with that. When the Doom 3 leak went live. I remember everybody that was a Doom fan had that on their hard drives. They did buy the game on release day. But if people could get a taste of the game now they would. It's not that people who download this game have no intentions of buying it. I know plenty of people when I was going to the University who wouldn't pay a dime for a PC single player game because they could download it and play it for "Free". But mulitplayer games like WoW they would buy without a doubt.

I'm not even gonna read the article.

Just gonna interject.

This is why PC gaming if fuxxor

If true.

Enjoy your leaks.

You do realize that just about every console game is leaked 2 weeks before retail release right

Same thing happened to half life 2, and that was still a commercially successful release.

erm, where are people getting the source code thing from? there is no source code in the leak unless it's an entirely different package.

there's no shortage of debug info but no actual source code.

That is also true. But you need a modified console in some extent to enjoy those leaked games. Most people don't go through the trouble of modifications or want to take a chance of losing their XBL account.

Nice sweeping generalizations because actually A LOT of people do go to the trouble of modding their consoles, and in fact its only the 360 that requires hardware modification now.

In any event, how many people are going to go to the trouble of downloading a buggy beta which doesn't even work properly?

Depends on the location also. In my apartment complex very few people here have a modified console. The majority here don't have any modifications including myself and my roomates. I can't speak for every xbox 360 owner, I am just seeing first hand what is happening in my apartment.

the people that pirated the game probably had no intenttion of buying it to begin with...so how many sales did Crytek actually lose from this piracy?...that's what pirates do, they get games for free...do you think that if they hadn't found this stolen version that they were planning on buying the retail version?...no chance

the drama has already started. frankly I am sick and tired of this bullshit. if they want to "pull out" of the pc market because of pirates, then don't let the door slam you on the ass. The only reason console piracy is small is because pc piracy is easier. if pc piracy became impossible more people would pirate on consoles. i mean face it, people pirate everything. always have always will. I am not saying that is right, just that it is a fact of nature. instead of making enemies game companies would be better served in converting pirates to sales.

A pre-release PC version of Crysis 2 has been leaked. I won't go into the details, but suffice it to say that it is now spreading rapidly through piracy channels, and people are using the usual excuses to justify obtaining something which does not rightfully belong to them. For Crytek, the developers of Crysis 2, this is yet another slap in the face. Crytek pushed the boundaries of PC gaming first in 2004 with Far Cry, then in 2007 with the PC-exclusive Crysis - and faced a backlash from PC gamers for doing precisely that. To add insult to injury, despite a full-featured free demo of the game being available before its release, Crysis went on to become the fourth most pirated game of 2008. Persevering, Crytek decided to invest resources into developing a customized PC version of Crysis 2. This leak, combined with statistics like Call of Duty: Black Ops, the biggest hit of 2010, being pirated 4.3 million times on the PC, versus 930,000 times on the XBox 360, yet the PC version making up only 6% of sales, makes you wonder if any major developer will consider PC gaming worth the bother in the future. MMOs, casual puzzle games and multiplayer games, as well as quick console ports, are about all that seem to be viable now on the PC. At least until PC gamers develop some semblance of respect for developers, and drop the self-entitlement attitude which piracy encourages. I'd like to think that TweakGuides readers will respect Crytek enough not to download this leaked version and wait for the official demo.

Try visiting anywhere in South East Asia,Eastern Europe or Russia. You don't even have to bother wasting bandwidth, just go to the local market and pick up a pirated game for $1 a DVD.

Looks like Crysis 2

*Puts on sunglasses*

Is in a crisis.

YEAAAAAHHHHH!!!

Anyway, I remember playing the leaked version of HL2 prior to its release about 7 years ago and all it did was hype me up a WHOLE lot more for the final game. Sadly, I doubt this leak would have the same effect, so I'm not going to even bother.

Crysis + Warhead sold 5 million overall. Crytek just got greedy and wanted to cash in on the casual "i'll buy anything if the tv tells me to" console market.

That's the exact same impression I have. Despite complaints of piracy, crysis sold very well, even better than a lot of console only releases.

It will be interesting to see how well crysis 2 performs in view of all the compromises that have been made to gameplay.
