BenQ G2400W

I have a huge problem with the 1:1 scaling with my 360 and g2400wd. I plugged it in through HDMI->DVI and when I do 1080p it lags greatly. Games are unplayable. When I do a lower resolution it is ok, but on 1080p its just terrible. If I do a lower resolution and aspect scaling, it looks the same as the 1080p but without the lag and tearing. Anybody know about this problem?

Strange,

I have noticed, on a rare occasion, this problem with the V2400W. If you are in the Xbox live dashboard and you switch "blades" or pages, the update seems choppy and there is tearing when the blades move. I then power cycle the monitor (without doing anything on the 360) and it goes away.

See if that helps you.

Good luck,

Can anyone answer my questions in my last post? Specifically point 2. I have never owned an LCD panel monitor and I don't know much about Dead Pixel policies. Do stores have Dead Pixel policies or are they manufacturer only?

I tried that but it still doesn't work. However, the 360 does restart every time I power cycle the monitor. For some reason, 1360x768 on aspect looks exactly like 1080p. Any ideas? Thanks for you help.

Ice009,

Dead Pixel Policies differ from store to store. For instance, newegg says that you have to have at least 7 dead pixels for them to exchange it.

Dead Pixel Policies differ from store to store. For instance, newegg says that you have to have at least 7 dead pixels for them to exchange it.

So the store and the company (BenQ) both have different pixel policies?

I thought I read somewhere you could return the BenQ within 7 days if it had any Dead Pixels? Would that be a BenQ policy or a store policy?

It is likely a "per-shop" policy.

Some places have a satisfaction guarantee so you can return your unit based on whatever criteria you want, but others do not, so you have to rely on the manufacturer.

If you buy directly from the BenQ Store online they have a satisfaction guarantee. I'm not a big fan of buying monitors online (though I have done so in the past), because of potential damage and excessive shaking by shippers.

I think that too many monitor manufacturers are too circumspect regarding dead pixel policies. We should know (for example) what BenQ or Samsung's pixel policy is explicitly without having to call and e-mail just to get this info. For me even one dead subpixel is a defect, and I don't see anyone giving a discount for monitors with flaws, so I should get what I paid hard-earned money for.

Sorry for the rant.

What is the diff between the V2400W and the G2400WD? Both are 24 in/2ms TN panels? Does the 'V' stand for thin?

One other question. I have the G2400WD, would I get any benefit from using a high end DVI to DVI cable over the oem one that comes with it?

I doubt it unless you are currently having image problems (loosing parts of the image or something similar) with your current cable. BTW if you do decide to get a new one you shouldn't worry if it is a dual link or single link as there are no 24" monitors that I know of that would use the extra bandwidth of dual link. If you had a monitor that uses dual link it would say so. Only 30" and above use dual link DVI. Also in terms of DVI-D vs DVI-I get whichever is cheapest. DVI-I = digital + analog and DVI-D is just digital and since you will only be using a digital signal it really doesn't matter which one you use. I just ordered the G2400WD from BenQ's store. If there is anyone here that did the same how long did standard shipping take?

From what I read here, it seems that not much difference beterrn V2400WD and G2400W panel wise. The look is very different tho, V claims to be the world slimmest 24"wide and sexy. BenQ store is doing free shipping this weekend and with their return policy I would recommend buying from it.

From my previous experience with BenQ store, it took 4 business to receive my FP241W with std shipping.

I'm experiencing the same issue ("No Signal Received" etc) for a few minutes everytime I turn off my PC. I hadn't noticed it earlier since when I'm not using the PC, I'm almost never facing the direction of the monitor.

But yesterday, I decided to check how long it goes on, and it seems to be about 2-3 minutes every 40-50 seconds or so. After that "I think" it stops :) (too lazy to watch an empty screen for more than a few minutes :p )

Curious if there's a solution to this or if this is just the way it works.

Ok, after coming back from an hour long walk and noticing the dreaded "no signal detected" on my monitor, and making sure the PC *was* turned off (had been for the last hour or so), I decided to do some more research into this issue.

1) First thing I did is turn on the PC then off again, and time the sleep/wake modes while the PC was off with a timewatch.. here are the results for this first time:
Woke up then went back to sleep after.... (I reset the timer everytime the monitor wakes up)
30 secs
125 secs
30 secs
105 secs
30 secs
5 secs
10 secs
5 secs
15 secs
15 secs
80 secs
60 secs

Step 2: Decided to do a "reset all" in the OSD of the monitor while looking at my bios screen and then disconnect the monitor from the PC (DVI) AND the wall (Electric) to see if it made any differences... here are the results after turning on the PC and shutting it down...
Times between the wake/sleep modes while the PC is off:
15 secs
5 secs
Nothing after 6 minutes. (I'm patient, but not THAT patient :D )

Hmmm, sounds better... so i did another test, turning it on then off again (the PC)...
Times between the wake/sleep modes while the PC is off:
120 secs
300 secs
5 secs

Ok, that's it! something's fishy here :/ I can't seem to find a pattern at all.

While I *will* call BenQ tech support to find out what's going on and perhaps have it replace if they can guarantee the same no dead pixels/almost non existent back light bleeding, I really like this monitor and would rather find out if there's something that can be done to fix this -- except turning it off everytime of course :).

So I thought I'd take a poll to see if anyone is experiencing this issue at all and if you are, could you post your MB and video card?

here are my MB and Video card..
Asus P5N-E SLI bios 803.
BFG 8800GT OC1 512MB.

Also, my ACPI power settings in the bios are set to S1/S3 (or is it SR1/SR3.. something that sound like it).

Thanks in advance, hoping to find a solution to this...

I'm planning to buy a 24" monitor for my PS3. G2400W and Acer P243w seem to be the cheapest ones with Full HD from what I can buy here. Acer is 20% cheaper but doesn't have 1:1 pixel mapping. I have a few questions.

1. How bad vertically stretched picture is?
2. Most games are on 720p. And 1:1 pixel mapping will make picture very small. Is this true? Or it can stretch to 1920х1080 without loosing aspect ratio and much quality if not to seat close?
3. Never saw a PS3 on Full HD monitors. Does it really blows away after playing on regular TV through AV cable?
4. Maybe it's worth to save some money and buy 22" with HDCP as I don't realy need monitor for hd movies?

Here ya go,

1) This is a matter of taste, but my opinion is that I don't want to see circles be oblong or people look like coneheads. It's not bad, but it's not my cup o' tea. Many monitors come with HDMI and can't properly aspect scale, so why do they bother?
2) You can use "aspect" scaling to get it up to "scaled" 1920x1080/1080p resolution. You will see some aliasing, but this is what happens when you scale up resolutions. Sit back another little bit and it should look quite nice.
3) Much nicer. I simulated 480p on my monitors and TV to see what it COULD look like. Very "hazy".
4) The only 22" right now that might properly scale ps3 is the Samsung T220HD. Not much cheaper than the G2400W from what I've seen. Otherwise expect PS3 at 1920x1200 not 1080p.

Thanks. What about sound issue? G2400W have headphone jack output. Is it capable to produce at least some sound on simple small speakers?

Found the answer by myself. It should work through analog audio outputs since PS allows to split and choose audio and video outputs.

Hey guys, just got my g2400w and have been playing with it. It came with one green stuck pixel in the middle of the screen, but I used the end of a sharpe cap and kept hitting it and I think it may be gone for good now.

However, I'm not as impressed as I thought I would be with the monitor. The text quality is sharp and outstanding, but the monitors colors just never seem to POP. I have it setup under HDMI with brightness 90 and contrast 50. For some reason this seems to be the only adjustments I can make, under the settings the "color" option is greyed out and cannot be accessed. Anyone know why.

Why does the monitor look dull in comparison to many others. I do feel viewing angles are good for a TN, with limited blacklight bleed, and not much banding.

However, I downloaded some 1080p clips and it just didnt pop like other monitors or my hdtv does. Is it a possiblity that my 128mb nvidia g8400m card is dispaying weak colors or something?

I paid $425, dell has their ultrasharp 24" for $599 but their are some discounts I can find. Not sure what to do, I like the benq a lot, but the lack of pop in the colors is disheartning.

I believe you have to play w/the picture mode seting and set it to standard. Then I had to set the colors up to my liking. I have the colors at red 98 green 93 blue 88 brightness at 85 contrast at 60. If anyone knows the best setting for the g2400wd plz tell me it.

I spent about an hour this morning playing around with the adjustments on mine and no matter what I did, I could never get it to look as good as when I 1st plugged it in and turned it on. So, I set everything back to factory default.

Is anyone else upset about the color quality? It just seems that the monitor's colors are dull in comparison to other TN panels. I like that there is little banding and viewing angles are good with very little blacklight bleed, but the lack of strong colors definitely may make me return this item.

I want to buy the G2400WD on newegg. Does anyone have a promo code for it?

So is this monitor any good or what? It's either this or a Dell 2408WFP. What do you guys think? Or should I wait and see how the new A01 revision Dell performs buying?

So in the meantime, I am back to manually turning my monitor on and off while my better half has decided to claim the other G2400W that I've got because it's annoying to have to press a button each time.:(

LOL, what I find funny about that is I have an old TV here and its remote control is dead, so I use a 2 metre wooden stick to turn it on/off and change channels without getting up from the couch :p The great thing is the stick is like a universal remote, I also use it to close the door in my room if I sit down without remembering to close the door. ;)

so no one else is having any issues with this LCD in terms of just color quality and it WOWing you at 1080p?

I have a G2400WD and use it to play high end pc games at 1920x1200, xbox 360 at 1080p, and standard def movies. I will agree with you that there isn't a wow factor when viewing this monitor. I had tried out a Gateway FHD2400 before buying the G2400WD and that screen definitely had the wow factor. Gameplay and movies seemed to pop right off the screen on the fhd2400. However, the fhd2400 had terrible backlight bleeding so I returned it.

Although the G2400WD lacks the wow factor, I am still extremely satisfied with it. Minimal backlight bleeding, accurate colors (I'm not a monitor expert, but the colors look good to me), good amount of brightness (I keep mine at 80), and a matte screen (which I think is MUCH better for pc use, although this is one of the causes for the lack of wow during gameplay). Even if games don't pop off this screen like on some other monitors, the quality is still great. I play my xbox 360 on it every day.

If you're looking for a monitor just for 1080p gameplay then you may want to check out other lcds. If you want an all-around excellent monitor for pc and entertainment use, then the G2400W is a great choice.

LOL, you are the man! I just had people here @ work looking at me as if Im crazy laughing by myself. Neway, I can relate to the need for a universal wooden stick remote controller.

I have my pc, ps3, and tv box connected to the 2400w. So I have to frequently get off my bed to switch between the monitor's input modes. I wish the monitor had a remote controller to compensate for the hard to reach buttons.

In fact, I need a universal controller that would allow me to do the following things without me getting off my bed:

1.) Switch between the monitor's input modes and move the audio output cable from the monitor's headphone jack to the sound card, and visa verse.
2.) Switch on/off the power switch located behind the ps3
3.) Switch on/off the wall power socket.
4.) Close the door, curtains, and windows.
5.) Prepare me food when my girlfriend is not around.

That isnt much to ask for, is it?:)

I'll make the assumption that the V2400W and G2400WD use the same panel now, but I don't find the color quality to be an issue. A lot of TNs are moving to wide gamut screens which makes for more saturated colors that give a lot of "pop", but are grossly inaccurate. The BenQ 2400s are standard gamut.

I found the Samsung 2493HM to have a more vibrant panel than the old G2400W but the dark greys turned brown and trying to play dark games was a chore on the 360. With the G2400W I had no such issue. The V2400W/G2400WD are like the Samsung, but without the dark color inaccuracies I find.

To be dead honest, I don't find TNs are very vibrant in general. Some wide gamut versions are ok. I haven't seen the FHD2400 (unavailable in Canada) and the 2693HM is very saturated and vibrant, but there is a lot of fiddling that has to be done to get accurate colors on these monitors.

Another user on the V2400W thread (CerootDoc) said the same thing when Xbox 360 is connected over HDMI, but I find even on the BenQ FP241VW (which has a pretty vibrant screen) using HDMI vs DVI vs component makes a big difference. The component is super colorful (with Xbox 360), the HDMI only a bit less so, but the more accurate DVI is dead compared to the other two.

With the G2400W/WD/V2400W, HDMI gives the exact same color as DVI, unlike the FP241XX series, which is fairly accurate colors (like my older Dell 2005FPW) without the need for excessive/expensive calibration. By comparison the FP241XX needs a lot more work on the colors.

This is what the colors should generally look like. Other TVs and monitors try to pop the colors (and oversaturate in the process) losing accuracy and sacrifice style over substance in this area. This is what I always liked about the G2400W. It's not "exciting" but it does a lot of things well that other monitors fail at (including good color accuracy).

I am finally getting used to the drab colors. I just find that some games aren't even playable without cranking up the brightness/contrast (doom 3, Jericho, any dark game). And most games look decent, but don't have the neon and shininess to the colors. Then once in a while you find a game that just gets it all right and looks fantastic. For some reason Crysis does not suffer from the dull color problems like the other PC and Xbox games. Maybe Crysis is just too bright on other monitors, but it sure looks good on the V2400W. Maybe they do something with the gamma, I don't know. Just wish the Xbox did it.

A question for the Xbox/technical guys:
Some xbox 360 games are very slow and choppy (low framerates) like GTA IV, I ebayed it cuz it was giving me a headache. And some like Call of Duty 4 are smooth as silk, 60fps I would guess. Coming from a PC builder/gamer like myself, I realize the graphics card in the XBOX 360 is last gen and only capable of so much. But my question is, if you are running HDMI 1080p, the graphic card has to do 1900x1080 which is impossible to get 60fps off of that chip. SO, if you tell your xbox to run at 480p or 720p (which has a lot less pixels to push), you would think GTA IV would get silky smooth, but it didn't. So what is the deal? Are all these games really 720p and they just stretch them to make it 1080p? And why wouldn't dropping down to 480p give you a better framerate??

If there is slow downs on the Xbox, I doubt it is anything else like the monitor.

The 360 renders games at 540p and uses a hardware scaler chip to upscale to 720p or 1080p. This means (on the good side) that going up in resolution will not reduce performance. On the bad side, it means that going down in resolution will not improve performance. I haven't found a lot of slowdowns on GTA IV, but admittedly I haven't played it much online, and when I have, it was only with a couple o' friends.

Maybe these games you are talking about are just rendered in dull colors? I know that Jericho on my PC with my Dell 2005FPW was never that visually exciting, but on the PS3 it was much more colorful when I played the demo.

V2400W and G2400WD seem to use the same panel but G2400W is different

V2400W/G2400WD is better than G2400W spec wise.
V2400W/G2400WD:response time:2 ms; contrase ratio:1000:1; dynamic contrast ration:4000:1
G2400W: response time 5ms; contrase ration:1000:1; no dynamic contrast ratio

G2400W is discontinued and replaced with G2400WD so I will assume V2400W/G2400WD are better

Has anyone came across problems trying to send the monitor's audio output from the headphone jack to the computer's input jack without the sound being buggered?

When I first ran the audio from the monitor to the soundcard, it sounded distorted, even if I played around with the monitor's volume. And now, I can't even get the sound out anymore. I have to either move the speaker's jack from the sound card to the monitor directly and visa verse. Or set PS3 to output audio through "Audio Input Connector / SCART / AV MULTI", then connect those cables to the tv box, then output the audio from the tv box to the sound card. It sounds better than when connecting from monitor to sound card, but then it has a buzzing noise. Plus, I feel that the sound lags behind a little, I feel. I dont know if the lag is all in my mind because im expecting it to be there if I connected: PS3 -> TV box -> PC -> Speakers, while the display is just: PS3 -> Monitor.

So my question is, how do I set up my system in such a way that I get the following results:

PS3 -> HDMI (including audio) -> Monitor -> Soundcard -> Speakers,
whithout the sound being buggered?
Any hints on how I should configure the sound card?
What should I set the Monitor's volume level to be so that it doesn't mess up the sound?
Which audio output formats should I select in the PS3's audio settings, Im not sure which ones are supported by the monitor and which ones are not. Im speaking here about the frequency and not channels i.e 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 96 kHz, 192 kHz.
But for interest's sake, how well does the monitor handle down mixing from 5.1/7.1 to 2.0.
Should I only send 2 channels to the monitor?

If this info will help, im using the Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic 7.1.
All I really want is to use the soundcard together with my S750s gigaworks speakers as an all round sound system. Every thing must go through the sound card.

Any suggestions will help.
BTW, please dont suggest that I spend more cash to solve this problem. You can imagine what the soundcard + speakers + monitor + PS3 add up to.

I got the WD in today but it seems dark. I am at 100 brightness and the "barely visible" text does not even show up when adjusting the brightness in Source engine games.

The difference in input lag is amazing compared to my last monitor however.

Also there is a white fuzziness as seen in 10e's review of the V2400W in the top and bottom black bars when viewing 1080p content.

if the problem is only in your game then how about just raising the gamma?

Okay so I decided to keep this since I'm using this mostly for productivity since I have a 40" samsung LCD not 1080p though. Anyways one problem that is really ticking me off is that it seems that whatever 1080p content I am streaming or download, there is a lag in the video where it looks all choppy and is not smooth. Is that due to my 128mb gs8400m chip in my laptop? I have it hooked up via hdmi
