Windows 7 Beta Goes Public

Ok, been trying everything for a while now, got it downloaded but need a key. Anyone got an extra they want to share ;)

I used check4change on 5 tabs, each one reloading 2 seconds after the other to make sure the page loaded, and each individual page on a 10 second timer. Eventually one of the tabs' header text went red and italicized, and it stopped refreshing: key done! Also, Norton Internet Security works flawlessly on 7; installed in 36 seconds (I timed it) and required no reboot.

What site are you all check4changeing on, and what text are you highlighting on that page?

Dude....seriously.....you're an elitist, narcissistic ass. The way you talk down to people on this forum is sickening.

This quote out of your sig tells all of us everything we need to know about you.

And the damning evidence of your narcissism is the conjoined insecurity displayed within your posts (all slightly exaggerated):

"I've installed Vista on 32,234 PCs in the past 6 months"
"I've been an IT guru since 1970 blah blah blah"
"I was an IT Zeus before Bill Gates suckled on his momma's ta-tas"

From my own IT career, which I choose not to display on this forum (unlike you), I do not feel the need to recite my resume to back up facts, which you do ad hominem. Instead of lettting facts stand on their own merit, you interject these wild grandiose figures to supposedly add strength to your argument. An expert needs none of this.

If someone needs to back up their opinion/facts with their chronological experience......you just lost all standing in my book. I would not want you on my team. Facts stand on their own. Bullshit talk is not needed.

You're obviously an intelligent guy. It's unfortunate your people skills are lacking.

Yeah, House M.D. is my hero... gotta love the guy... I could care less what your opinion of me is (but that's obvious, right?) or anyone elses. I'm old, I'm pissed, and I still know more than you, so deal with it.

NEXT!!!

Still haven't gotten a key, but also just realized I am out of blank DVDs!! Guess I will have to wait till tomorrow now to install.

actually the phrase is I couldn't care less

If you intend to install it on a machine with a single hard drive but you already have space for it partitioned (meaning not in use and not formatted), or on a second physical drive, you can extract the .iso using WinRAR or something like it and then run the setup.exe in the root directory... or just mount that .iso file with a virtual CD/DVD driver and install it.

During the installation, all the content on the DVD ISO is copied to the hard drive one time, after that it's not even required anymore, so you *can* do an installation directly off the hard drive, or an external, etc... as long as you start the installation from inside your current OS, it'll go off just fine.

I can't get the page to come up in FF. In IE 64 it did but just sent me to the page can't be found

I wish I have the extra hard disk to install this

But I guess I'll just read all the comments here from you guys who will be trying it out

Nah, I said exactly what I meant, don't mince words. :)

Wrong, if you care at all it is possible to care less

Why not just partition your main drive W7 requires minimum of 17GB to operate. I just created a 20gb partition and installed on that took <5 minutes to do so. No need for a second physical drive create a virtual one.

Up and running on the main rig. Setup took twenty minutes flat. So far so good, except that IE8 seems even worse on Windows 7 than it is on Vista...

To everyone waiting on a key, you can install it without one just like Vista. You'll just need to come up with one in the next 30 days.

Oh yeah, my Windows Experience Index is 6.0. Meh. The Raptors aren't fast enough anymore. Bring on SAS.

Lucky you my three year old gaming rig scored a 5.6

no raid standard 7200 rpm drive

GOT IT!!! Took about 30 minutes of refreshing the page but got my 64-bit key.

It took 30 minutes of running C4C but I finially got a key. Had 3 tabs running and one of them finnially went to the page with the key

My Windows Index got dumped to a 3.0, from my weak Hard Drive -_-

But my CPU/Graphics Card went up from the previous 5.9 limit.

I had trouble with both browsers. I just signed out, closed all the browser windows, waited a small while and tried again. Back came the error page - back goes the check4change and refreshing.

Still no go.. I highlight the link but just keeps refreshing this page

On the microsoft page (the one you want to refresh) highlight the word "error" and the right click, pick your check4change options, and there ya go.

You need to highlight the words on the page you want to refresh, not a link

that blog says that one key will work for both versions. Anyone know if this is true? I really want to play with both versions, but I can't get the 32-bit key :).

The keys always work for both x86/x64

With that said, you don't need a key to install....you just need one before 30 days are up....though maybe you don't even need that. Vista will work without a proper key...you just get black screen and annoying messages, as I recall.

Has anyone been gaming on it yet?
I'm deciding whether or not to upgrade from my vista install, I love it but I just know this is going to bone me.

Just finished installing. Looks nice :). Not connected to the internet though, so I have to wait to see how the key works with activation.

just grabbed my key with c4c. 5 tabs, 2 second refresh, bring to front on change, and do not refresh while viewing.

all 5 tabs gave up a key in about 8 mins.

Mind sharing one? :p

I'm running 6 tabs with your settings: 3 for 32 bit and 3 for 64. Hoping to snag one before I got to bed :)

either MS only has one key for this whole thing, or its a static key based on your IP. all 5 came back as the exact same.

Just completed running a upgrade install on my laptop... worked great!!!!

Event Avast AV still works!!! All drivers imported fine. Took over an hour... but upgrades do normally. Laptop is a XPS m1530

Good luck to all on getting everything working...
