Windows 7 Beta Goes Public

If you have the ISO, burn it (at half your burner's max speed, or 4x, whichever, but don't burn it at full speed... you've been warned if it doesn't work, and I suggest using a DVD+RW actually, if you have any), and then boot off the disc and start the installation.

i burned at max speed with out issue.

I got my 64 bit key!

Just keep using C4C and it will work guys! I had about 18 pages open at once and all of a sudden they all displayed the key. Going to install right now!

woot IM DONE!!!!

omg vista froze on the last second, almost shit my pants

so isnt the 32 bit supposed to come out today? oh boy i cant wait, so is there anything special you have to do to get a product key or does it need one?

Wow, just when I was about to give-up on the key's and just install it, mine showed up :D

You can install it and activate later :p

I've been using it all day, and just now spamming refreshing the page for about 2 hours -_-

I'm slowly getting used to the task bar, but honestly I don't really see this as any more efficient than the regular task bar.

what the hell...

I have a 160GB hard drive in my laptop, has 46GB of free space, yet vista tells me it can only make a partition of 3.5GB....

anybody have suggestions? I already tried defraging

afaik, windows only lets you create partitions from unallocated space (that 46GB free is probably still part of a partition). You'll need something like acronis of partitionmagic to change the sizes of partitions.

prolly some ummovable system files hanging out in the boondocks on your drive, so windows won't let you shrink your existing primary partition by more than 3.5gb.

Haha, well I didn't really read every page of this thread, quite a few of them there. + I was trying to help out the guy who said he found a link but it's slow.

if you were trying to help me, its going slow because a bunch of people are downloading it, and its big (if it stays at normal download speed il have it done in 5 horus)

There can be a number of files located anywhere in the partition that limit how much you can shrink it. Beit the MFT, page file, restore points, hibernation files, etc.

A bit of warning with this, I used Acronis (PM doesn't work with Vista) to basically force a resize on my media drive's partition. It caused a ton of issues to arise with Windows7 and thinking the partition was constantly "corrupt". My install got stuck in a permanent Checkdisk loop during bootup, and it was a mess. I moved my important media off the drive, wiped it entirely and formed a 30gb section from the get-go, for Win7. Works like a dream now.

It's doable with a third party tool, but there may be some headaches attached to the install of Windows 7, which are not it's fault at all.

I had that page pop up twice in about 2 hours of refreshing. After awhile, the Key page just popped up. There's nothing else to click, it just appears, with an instructions button, and a download button (which didn't even work).

So, keep trying, but be prepared to wait awhile.

according to a guide that was posted here, I can shrink the main partition, free up some unallocated space and create a partition with it

with vista of course

Okay, I thought you might've had a bad link instead of a bad connection, since I'm still able to get 1.1MB/s on it (quick enough to dl in <1 hr)

On another note, I just got a 64-bit key, so microsoft didn't put an end to C4C yet .

I got that too, but I'm hoping it's just a fluke, I started that tab again, and still have a bunch of tabs just constantly refreshing.

No it's not a fluke, unfortunately. It's been happening to me after a dozen or so refreshes for the last 45 minutes...

yeah im doing some disk cleanup, hiberfil was 3GB

also have a good 15 tabs open, i am getting that search page randomly on some of the tabs

do you guys know if once it shows a key that key will never be shown again? kinda wondering cuz i may just leave this on for the download and go to sleep, and wake up to a few key

Well, I spoke tooo soon ...

I was manually hitting re-fresh every 10 seconds or so and boom ... key popped up ...

Just luck of the draw on hitting the server at the right time ....

I stopped getting the "search" page by limiting my refresh to 10 sec intervals

Meh. I give up. I'll try again later. Or just wait for them to get the damn thing up and running correctly.

have c4c setup on 4 tabs...downloading 64bit version...figure wtf...i know i'll be redoing my OS when the new hard drives get here anyways so...
