Chad, the majority of the zerg is still in T2. Give it a little bit more and your queue times will be better. And for the record I like that scenario >_<, and my server has ~1min queues on the other scenarios as well :)

I played LotRO, and it suffered from the other, more important side of my argument: the lack of immersion and sense of "why should I play a game that essentially amounts to work?"

It's not that I'm not receptive to the notion that good PvP is possible in an MMO, it's that I'm receptive to PvP in which victory depends on the skill of the individual rather than your class, level, gear and a multitude of other minute variables. I simply suspect that MMOs will never foray successfully into the realm of having some players who are light years ahead of others in terms of skill in the way that games like Counter Strike, Quake and Team Fortress do.

It's hard for me to go from playing TF2 and scoring 2 and 3 times the points of the next idiot on my team because I'm highly skilled at the game to playing a game where skill has minimal impact on your success in PvP. The limitations of your character are harsh, and it's inherent to the type of game that they must be imposed that way to ensure balance.
 
I nearly always come out on top in TF2, as did I with quake, quake 2, 3, 4 UT and numerous other fps games, so I know what you mean about the "skill" involved. You just have to go into it knowing they are a different beast, but that doesn't mean it can't be fun. The closest thing I've seen to, and I'm going to use this very loosely, a good "mmo" type pvp was Savage. It was pretty cool, combination of fps/rpg.. of course it got unbalanced real quick as the good players were also the faster leveling players, one really skilled person could swing the entire game.

Also, do you need to dedicate 4+ hours per night at a certain time to accomplish anything? In other words, does it become your job?

If you're the kind of person who has to be max level before everyone else, sure. I'm having fun with it... doesn't feel like work to level. But you can log in and jump into rvr pretty quickly, and you're still gaining exp.

No you can get stuff accomplished in a few minutes. Since PVP gives you XP, and you can join the scenarios from anywhere, you can just pound out a few scenarios, gain some XP, and log out while still having made that progress.
 
just started a new character on a core server with my bosses. Hearing your bosses drunk on vent and high is awesome
 
dark elves definately need tanks, i was trying to do the chapter 4 PQ on teir 1, and we're all level 8-11 and we were getting slaugtered by the final boss in the PQ.... we kind of just gave up -.-

So there is nothing in WAR that's comparable to WoW's end game raiding?
 
BTW, anyone having any weird glitches/problems/CTDs and are still running the beta client..

Do yourself a favor and reinstall from the disks.

Holy. Shit. What an improvement. Tor Anroc looks hell of a lot better. Don't have glitches with animations, textures look cleaner and crisper, and performance seems to be a lot better as well.

Don't be an idiot like me and waited this long. Also, remember to save your previous Screenshots, unlike me :(

It's great to see swift responses to common issues with the game like this, I think it shows that WARs minor faults will soon be gone.

I find it addictive, you dont need to play for long for any of the game elements, PvE is everywhere and ranges from quick missions to long ones spanning enitre areas, Public Quests are all over the place as well which you dont need to wait for, you can just turn up at any point in the cycle and contribute. You can instantly queue for scenarios anywhere in the game world and queues are never more than a few mins long so you can do them more or less straight away.

RvR means traveling to an RvR area and finding a good fight so that might take a while depending if you're in a guild and how much you intend to explore etc, sometiems RvR isnt very active and sometimes its packed so that varies.
 
the only thing that caught me off guard was when i went into the open RVR realms, that meant that anywhere i went, i could be attacked, it's kind of frustrating when im a level 8 noob trying to get to the next city for pve quests, and i get mowed down by a lvl 20+ on a mount....

i thought they were supposed to be chickened in those lower areas?
 
nope sorry sparky, but peopl were complaining so much about the chicken mechanic they removed it from open rvr servers, its still in effect in core servers though.

I agree its frustraiting, thats why I went to a core server. Still tons of RVR action but without worring about getting ganked when im just trying to do PvE content lol.

They are, maybe you're in the wrong area? Lol. Yesterday I was doing a Seige in T2 and a 30 ran up to me and tried attacking, and they went chicken. Was pretty hilarious.

are you sure you were on a open server and not core though?

Im still tyring to figure out the open chicken rules, I assumed they removed it but mabey they just increased the level cap before your chickend

People only get chicken if they are 2 tiers above you (Level 22+ people will get chickened in a T1 zone). So I level 21 person can run around start zones with level 1 players killing everyone. They signed up for being on Open RVR so they deserve it :p

Was not really having any issues with the game but I uninstalled beta client and reinstalled from Retail CD's and game just seems better overall now. Plus I can now start the game from Vista's Games Explorer. Can't put my finger on it but with the install from Box DVD's game just feels and seems different in a good way. Maybe it's just my imagination ... lol

ahhh ok thanks for clearing that up lol.

I agree if you sign up for a open rvr server you get what you get, I rolled onto a core serevr because

a) I hate being ganked by super hgih levels
b) Sometimes I like to just PvE without worry about PvP

The open RvR areas on my server are still very busy and scenarios are constant so Im enjoying my core rulesets very mcuh lol
 
Wow I'm still running the OB client, didn't think the retail cd would make a difference. Guess I know what I'm doing when I get home.
 
Ok quick question... does anyone else have the stupid EULA pop up everytime they login? I remember seeing something about this elsewhere but that person (if I remember correctly) was still using the beta client. This is retail box. So sad that this game kinda runs like crap on my system (see specs in sig) but still a fun game. Reminds me of my Shadowbane days!

You can not get rid of the EULA for the time being. They did get rid of the code of conduct however. Mythic acknowledged that its annoying as hell to always click the EULA, however its helping them properly ban 5000+ gold farmers so far. Not sure on the legalities behind all that.

Yes the pop up EULA is there every time you log in. I dont think that is going to change any time soon. I would suggest junking that 7600GS. 8800s can be had for cheap these days.
 
I installed from the retail DVDs the first and only time I had an issue with the OB client, had a CTD after alt+tabbing. No biggie, no issues since either.

I'm currently on Chaos Wastes an OpenRVR/RP server since I like the Open RVR and figured with it being RP I would get a break once in a while. Not so, nowadays there are are couple 18-20's in a lot of the PQ areas and on the roads. Since I'm an altaholic, I have multiple 8-10's and can't put up much fight.

Considering moving to a Core server, but I keep thinking when I get some time to devote to a single character, prolly my BW, it won't be so bad. Tough decision.
 
I'm going to download the official release(from Direct2Drive) just for shits and giggles

However with proper RP, no one would let you go uncontested in any area if they are aware that you are there :D
 
any difference between beta client and D2D official release? I don't have access to retail discs... At first I thought the improvements people were reporting were either placebo or a simple cache wipe from installing retail, but if you guys are saying that textures look better I have to see it myself. Ran a full file check in the patcher and it came up with no problems, can't believe Mythic would keep an inferior version of the game legitimate.

well, im still in the teir 1 area as far as i know, but even if i traveled to teir 2 land, wouldnt I be chickened? :|
